One important lesson that I've learned from Livejournal and fandom that is applicable to that thing we call "real life" is that it never hurts to ask for something you want. I hear that this works exceptionally well when it comes to boys because they are in fact not mind readers. Who knew? (Although, I still have a roadblock for using this technique with my dad.)

So, [livejournal.com profile] vipersweb wrote this for my birthday! I love a good Cam pov, and this is an awesome and realistic look inside his head. Just getting on SG-1 would have been a big deal, but he had the cred for the promotion to leader. Of course then nothing really turned out as he expected. : ) I just watched the first couple of dvds from season 9, and I forgot how adorable fanboy!Cam was. Even then, you knew that he had to have been having some major doubts.

It's Never as Simple as it Seems by [livejournal.com profile] vipersweb PG Cam
Cam's thoughts on his new team.

I liked this because it didn't demonize anyone. SG-1 were put was an awkward situation, and responded in character. Cam has them all pegged even while he's just trying to keep his head above water. I like Cam's sitrep on Daniel the best, probably because I still don't get Daniel all the time.

I assume y'all have heard about [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis's Fall Fandom Free-For-All. [livejournal.com profile] eighth_horizon picked up my SPN Dean/Sam prompt - Pretending to be gay turns out to be the best idea ever. - and turned out an awesome fic. If you haven't posted a list over there, I encourage you to, and it's definitely not too late. If you're bored or feel like doing something awesome for someone you might not even know, head over and see if there's a request you can fulfill.

The Gay That It Is (Or: The Gayest Gen Story Ever) by [livejournal.com profile] eighth_horizon Sam and Dean SamandDean PG-13

I really liked the escalation because brothers pretending to be gay is hilarious and oh so wrong. I love the ending, it's very soft and sweet. : )

Also, if y'all are wondering why I've gotten spammy and answered comments at four in the morning, it's because I'm in the process of pulling an all nighter to finish one of my paper projects. I'm almost finished with project evaluation now! \0/ But just to warn you, I may be shuffling around LJ like a zombie for the rest of the day. Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaains

Mercedes Lackey and Larry Dixon were at Conestoga and I so got to talk to them!

I haven't read anything too recent, some of Misty's new stuff just isn't my cup of tea, but I remember back in high school I would read her Valdemar series over and over again. The Gryphon series and the Storms series were my favorite books, and Skan and Karal were my favorite characters. Really, that universe is one of the first that made me want to write and do my own world building.

I am so mad at myself that I didn't take any of my hardbacks for them to sign, but I waited to talk to them and got them to sign my con program. They're both uber nice and approachable people, and Larry was hilarious. He likes to try to add a silent "q" or "x" to the ends of people's names. They went and crashed the next panel I went to, so I even got some extra time to bask. I asked a question which somehow led to a conversation with Larry about how much Transformers sucked. Seriously, this made the rest of my year, and perhaps ever.

I was scared to death to try to talk to Mercedes, and I wished I could have thanked her for writing about the work they did with volunteer fire fighters and rescue workers. I'm pretty sure between that and the theme of civic responsibility in her books, my place in the Fire and Emergency Management Program is partly because of her.

So, yeah, if y'all ever get the chance to meet them - do it. You won't regret it.

Panel notes tomorrow because I have a headache and I don't want to squint trying to decipher my handwriting.

Hey y'all! I've had a tough week, very tough. So, last night I decided to break into Devour for a Jensen pick-me-up. I've had it since Jan, but I've been saving it for just the right moment. And boy, was it worth it. Sure the movie had a few problems, but Jensen was a gorgeous drink of water with delicious voice overs. : )

Spoilers for Jensen's pretty eyes the movie.

I FINALLY SAW ARK OF TRUTH!!!!!!!!!

And I enjoyed myself muchly. : )

Silly thing first: Cam/Chair > John/Chair
Sure John and his control chair make sweet, sweet love full of sighs and shivers, but Cam and his captain’s chair have angry, growly sex. Everyone knows that angry sex is hottest… *fans self* I need an icon.

On we go then. )

Fear me, I’ve got about 15,000 words on my J2 bigbang and I’m in some sort of sketching zone. Yeah, I’ll be inflicting my dismal to mediocre to passable drawing skills on y’all this weekend.

So, last night was the second night this week that the jackasses upstairs woke me up at four in the morning. *Is not a happy camper.*

[livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang is coming along - 8000+ words and still going strong. I'm using a Jensen that I haven't seen in a lot of other fic, so I'm excited to see how it goes over. Anybody else still truckin' on their fic? Finished yet?

Speaking of Big Bang, I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang and I've started with an idea. I think it'll be fun once I finally have some time to focus on it. I've got a filter set up, comment here if you want on it. I haven't started whining yet, but I do kind of wander around a bit.

I'm really enjoying The Supernatural Fangirl Experience podcasts. But I should have known better than to try to little to it in the public library! Jesus, I think I gave myself internal damage trying not to bust out in laughing tears.

On a completely different note:

Without A Paddle came on last night so I dug out my t-shirt to wear today. I love that movie, it's silly, male, and yet surprisingly touching. Why didn't I think about pushing for that movie in yuletide? This year man, this is it. Tom/Jerry 4 eva!

Let me get some good stuff out first:

1. The Colbert/Stewart/O'Brien (srsly don't go there) was made of awesome and will probably amuse me for the rest of time.

points 2-5 )

The bad:

6. One day, I will learn not to read fandom meta.

Problem A: starts with all you people being so much more intelligent than I am. Now, I'm no dummy, but I'll admit to being fairly superficial in my life/writing/reading/watching habits. Probably half of the points y'all make go right over my head.
Problem B: is that I am the incredible minority of fen from Okieland/Bible Belt/midwest/whatever. I just don't think the way that people from the coasts, Canada, Europe, or Australia think. Too bad too, 'cause you're way awesome.
Problem C: I have bizarre personal gender thoughts of which there has never been made a box to fit. I'm not a feminist, and I feel slightly like a traitor. Most days, I don't feel particularly feminine, or womanly at all. It's discomforting for this to be shoved back in my face (though admittedly, I do it to myself).

Basically those combine to make me confused, befuddled, and strangely uncomfortable. I don't know precisely where that leaves me fandom-wise. Jealous, I guess.

Yes, this is all from the SPN fallout from the last episode. I use this icon ironically. (I think, unless I'm not, but in that case I swear that I'm not being intentionally dense.)

7-9 )

To sum up: can someone give me a girl prompt or two? I promise nothing, but I'd like to give it a try. Preferably something quirky, AUs, crossovers, upbeat, big ideas, just be nice to me, yeah? : )

SG: Teyla, Vala, Keller, Jeannie SPN: Jess, Bela, Ruby OR: give something else a try

1. Yeah, I'd like to say that I've been busy doing cool and exciting stuff -- but that would be a total lie. 2. Because I'm not going to hold my breath waiting to get the fic I requested from the ficathon, I decided to write my own prompt. 3. “Well, I guess, that’s that,” Daniel said when the door shut to the room they’d been shown. 4. So, I quit my job... And now I'm just hanging. 5. Somebody please tell God that April showers should have ended yesterday. 6. I've been at IHOP for the last two hours. People are starting to look at me funny. The town was nearly washed away last night. Seriously, there are lakes today where yesterday there were none. 7. Matt Farrell has eaten my brain. 8. NOT DEAD! 9. Insanejournal is bringing back the porn on September 1st. 10. I had a very sleepless night so I stayed up and organized my Halloween music and started messing with my layout. 11. I are sick, and is not having fun. 12. Arry! by Advanced Potion-Making Upbeat, rock version of the theme song. I've associated Harry Potter with Christmas, but I have no idea why. : )

We upgraded internet speed, and it is glorious!

There was a bomb threat called into the school I was subbing at today. Nothing happened but I'll tell you, it's not fun standing outside with 250 anxious 5th,6th, and 7th graders in the heat, wind and dust.

Came home and watched SPN 3.01. This makes me happy because now I can wait until next week to worry about figuring the VCR out. Sorry, I think I'll still pick CSI to watch live.

Ug! I'm so worn out, but there's so much I want to write. It feels like my brain in floating around in my head completely unconnected to anything.

Question: I finished watching SPN S1 and I was wondering if they ever run into anything good? I mean if there are devils and demons running around it stands to reason that there's at least a few supernatural things that aren't evil. Or if not, do they ever address that?

ETA: OMG! Youtube, how much faster are you! AHA! Episodes of the Family Channel's Zorro! I'm so doing Yuletide this year. I can't wait.

Apparently, I'm last.

I've been listening to Oklahoma (link to box) on repeat for the last couple of days. I finally track down who it's by and it's Common Rotation which just happens to be Adam Busch's (Warren from Buffy) band.

Yeah, I feel kinda dumb.

BUT I'M TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH THEM NOW!

So I was wondering if anyone had any tracks they could share to tide me over until I find a CD to buy and get in my hot little paws.

Also, I watched Talladega Nights with my bub tonight and was surprised by how much I liked it. I think we're going to go back and get Blades of Glory sometime.

All right. So, I obviously suck quite a bit and have decided that a full write up of last weekend’s con is simply not going to happen. Instead, I’ll make a list.

1.) Being able to talk out loud with other fangirls is a gift that should never be taken for granted. Ever. Thanks so much to everyone I talked to and laughed with, you guys made my trip!

2.) Michael Shanks is a lovely guy. A lovely guy who has a lifetime movie coming out on Dec 4. He’s pretty, nice, and seemed genuine though he definitely had the whole convention “experience” down.

3.) David and Kate should have their own comedy show. Jane too. It would be hysterical. Mars could guest star.

3a.) David Hewlett is gorgeous, hilarious, has a hot voice, and couldn’t be more adorable if he tried. Of course, all his cast mates noted his crankiness, which only endears him to me more. (Did I say that right? Oh well, you get the picture. I love me some DH.)

3b.) A Dog’s Breakfast was pure genius. Patrick (DH) was a wonderful character who I now want to slash with Lionel (JF) from Family Album. Seriously, this movie even made me like Paul Mc. I never thought that would happen. As soon as this DVD comes out, I’m buying a caseload.

4.) Apparently, the lemon in Pegasus Project was all thanks to Ben B. That’s something new to look at in regard to the ep! : )

5.) I am very unimpressed with Torri and Jason. They seemed nice enough, just not that memorable. I only watch Atlantis for McKay and Sheppard, I admit it. Even then, I still end up irritated over how random they all are.

6.) I came home with way too much stuff, and now I don’t know what I’m going to do with the posters, pictures, banner, and calendar. None.

7.) Oklahomans do not belong in California. Yes, there was that one time, Grapes of Something or Another - whatever. I could never live there. Claustrophobia aside, I think my lungs are irreversibly damaged. It was nice to see the tumbleweeds again as soon as we hit the Texas border.

Kate Hewlett is going to be at the convention this weekend! I am so excited, TWO Hewletts! Two! They are going to be the cutest/funniest/most interesting pairing up there.

I leave on Wednesday! My very first convention ever! Eeeeeeeeeee!

I'm going to quietly hyperventilate over in the corner now.

All right. I loved both shows! It was like a pilot-off between everyone who can fly. Which, I finally realized -- pilots are hot. I know, I know... duh. But it was always about the linguists and scientists before. Sure Cam was hot, but I didn't get that he also knew what he was doing. I know I do. Boy do I.

Also, apparently I slipped on my shipper/slasher goggles for the Atlantis episode, and oh yeah I cam up with some doozies.

Anyway, here are some thoughts that I jotted down while watching the show. Full of randomness and bad punctuation, but I feel the need to keep it in the spontaneous nature in which it was written. Artistic integrity, not laziness... ; )

Hey everyone. Had a very busy day today, I only got home about an hour ago from an all-day-long marathon. I'm tired. So I don't know if any of you are due Southers, but I volunteered to rec episodes for March and I figure, I might as well post it on my journal too just to keep up with it.

I've got two papers due on Friday, guess I should probably start them sometime. Fourgy fic is finished, mostly. I just want to let it sit for a bit before I reread it and then ask for a victim volunteer to give it a once over. Also, I'm working on the prompt "dirty talk" and "cuddle" for [livejournal.com profile] smut_69.

Real Life (tm) is not going so well. It's not that I have anything to complain about, it's just that I feel very isolated from everything right now. Hopefully spring break will sort me out. Happy Ash Wednesday.
