chase_acow: long shot of Sam Wilson, Cap America uniform hovering over the city (fatws city angel)
I saw over on [personal profile] singedsun that MasterClass is making Black History Month free through the end of February, and I definitely want to check it out.

trailer under here! )

I had a weird last week, it included a 90lb dog having digestive issues, my first kitchen pan on fire, the worst zoom/phone interview I've done so far, and not enough time with my girl Aloy in Horizon: Forbidden West. Thankfully this week I got tonight off for the weather, so I enjoy another three (c'mon make it four!) day 'weekend' shooting a bunch of arrows into things. I have had some roller-coaster feelings about this game.

I wrote Ask Again a teen and up Final Fantasy 7 Remake (<- lies I am still angry) Cloud/Barret fic about running into each other at a gay bar.
I got Anyway a Loki/Mobius explicit fic in which a safeword is used, they talk it out, and then they get back up to sexy times. The tags are scary, but it's a sweet, sweet story with some choking and bondage. I love this fic, it was so spot on to a lot of my likes!

chase_acow: Sam Wilson from Captain America happy and flying (cap s happy)
I went to the lake this morning to swim, and I only stayed in about half an hour, but wow am I sore. These are not the muscles I was working out when I made myself elliptical and lift. I took the weekend off hoping to soak up some sun and sleep at night, but it's supposed to start raining tonight and not stop until Thursday. Alas. But, I did not get sunburnt, and I'm really enjoying the book I started!

I've been saving Solos on Amazon Prime for when I really needed it on night shift. That moment came last night, and OMG I loved Mackie's episode Tom so much. And Helen Mirren's Peg because she is amazing and the two eps are connected. I bawled so much. They are designed to make you cry but it is excellent story telling by excellent actors. It's all about family.

These two plus Morgan Freeman's Stuart are the best, and highest rated. I also thought Anne Hathoway's Leah and Uzo Aduba's Sasha (though this is the most pandemic contenty one of them all, so it might not be for everyone) were good. I hated Jenny because cringe and Nera because it's pregnancy horror.

The series ponders what it means to be human, arguing that we are connected to others through shared experiences, even in our most isolated moments.

I also finally watched this video of Oscar Isaac, Anthony Mackie, Kevin Kline, Jessica Chastain and others talking about their teacher at Juilliard, their time at school, and acting. It's fun, informative, and interesting, and Mackie is very fuzzy, Oscar's gray hair is beautiful, and Jessica asks the hard questions. They're all so smart, and they get it. They talk about the racism, elitism, and sexism they faced and is ongoing in today's culture.

I got mail from [personal profile] dine I enjoyed the update quite a bit! If you don't have them as part of your circle, you're missing out on entertainment and great recs. : )

I made egg sandwiches for breakfast, both eggs were double yolked monstrosities. Creepy yet delicious. I'm making a lasagna now, it's my first attempt and I hope it goes well because I've been craving it for a couple of weeks now. I miss Fazoli's, it was a great fast food Italian option. The Everyplates meal kits have really upped my confidence in the kitchen. Is it false confidence? probably. Do I still have all my fingers? so far.

OTOH - I've gotten sucked into Epicurious' Basic Skills Challenge which takes 50 people gives them ALL the kitchen gadgets and then asks them to do something like core and peel an apple (spoiler alert, someone tries to use a meat tenderizer mallet and I absolutely lost all my shit) or separate an egg (which one man manages to technically do in the most wrong way possible) and then an expert shows you how to do it the right way. So I also see that I'm clearly not the worst in the kitchen.

I'm reading The Testaments right now and I'm enjoying it now that I checked the wiki page and know there are actually three narrators. I'm dim sometimes. I enjoyed hating the The Handmaid's Tale which I read a couple of years ago. It's just infuriating, and even though obviously everyone jumped on the bandwagon because of the current state of politics in so many places, I probably should have waited for a better time to read it. But since I'd already done it to myself, I figured I might as well read the sequel and see what happens. I tried to watch the Hulu series despite my distaste for Elizabeth Moss, but didn't make it out of season 1.

While reading, I got an idea for a AU Hydra rises/Winter Soldier army fic for Sam/Bucky. It glances the tropes for a slavery fic, but also lets me stage a coup and do some other things with the Avengers characters. Not sure it'll ever see the light of day. Sam fans have to deal with the short end of the stick a lot when it comes to race and fandom, and I don't want to add to that. But I wrote a real easy 1,500 words last night at work and I like a lot of the sex/vulnerability/trust/consent/political issues involved. I mean, sure I could have been writing my assignment for [community profile] idproquo but y'know, why do what you're supposed to?

I took last Fri, the 31st off work to go hang out with a couple of friends for a late birthday celebration. It was . . . fine. She turned some music on for background noise while we cackled through several games of Villainous, but then she started humming/singing along to everything and I kinda wanted to smash her with a hammer while I was playing Yzma. I was more excited to see the dog I raised and he barely left my side all night. I feel bad for leaving him with her, but he's her dog and his medical bills are way outside my reach.

I teared up through the entire Good Place finale. Ridiculous show.

I'm doing cardio work outs from teambodyproject.com and they're mostly fun and doable with options for low impact. I haven't been the best about doing them every day, but I'm still feeling it in some places I wasn't getting just on my elliptical.

I added the Falcon and Winter Solider et al Disney+ trailer over at [community profile] winterfalcon here And I know it's not much but I love Sam and he looks hella good here!

Here is a good explanation about how the massacre of Black Wall Street occurred in 1921 in Tulsa's Greenwood neighborhood. Warning for some graphic imagery, but the illustrations are so good. check out the artist's twitter.

I loved it. I haven't gotten very far in the book, I decided not to take it on vacation with me. Those kids were really well done, writing and acting. I admit, I had no idea where the title came from, but once I found out -> awesome. That was a bad shoot. Period. The depressing thing is that I know some of the guys I work with would still get defensive and blame the kid for not following orders. I continue to wonder if I should get out while I still have that shred of ethics left. I cried then at the movie, and at the end. Starr is so good. When the dad was giving them "the talk" and it was so different than what pop culture would lead you to expect I felt so awful. I did look up the Black Panther's Ten Point Program, which I am in no way equipped to comment on, but seems totally reasonable given my extremely limited scope.

I love this movie.

Anthony Mackie as King was hot and scary and sad.

John Boyega and Anthony Mackie did a mighty fine job! Will Poulter is such a weird dude, and it's so easy to hate him here. IDK? This is a rough one, and I know there's a lot of criticisms going around. I didn't enjoy watching it, but I think the story is important, even if the movie never becomes important.

Name ten of life's simple pleasures that you like most, then tag five people to do the same. Try to be original and creative and not to use things that someone else has already used.

Walking barefoot on green grass.
The cold spot at the bottom of the sheets.
A breeze that lifts my hair.
When the sun reflects just right and lights my eyes.
Warm socks fresh out of the dryer.
Colored bottles in the windowsill.
Wind chimes.
The smell of cut grass.
Turning on the radio just in time to hear an awesome song.
Strawberries and sugar.

[livejournal.com profile] fryadvocate posted an embedded youtube clip about How to tell people they sound racist that provoked a thought or two. Not that we have any racists here in Okie Land. Oh, no. <- That was my sarcastic voice.

Custom Cock-ery. Wow. Just wow. Actually, they could actually make a Padacock or two for the SPN fangirls. : ) I'm not sure how we'd distinguish it. Any ideas?
