chase_acow: The Muppets Animal ringing the triangle (random animal triangle)
So I spent some time cleaning out the freezer, and I clearly had/have good intentions of eating the fish but little to no follow through. Alas for my liver enzymes.

After 15ish years of fear and anticipation, it finally happened. The Community Band f-ed up the Star Spangled Banner. It was glorious. The fear and desperation on the director's face is a thing not soon forgotten. I'm still not entirely sure what happened, but there were a couple of different tempos going on until about the middle when we all wisely decided to go with the percussion. I take very little credit as I always skip the first measure due to fear of fracking out before anyone else.

I enjoyed the Crooked Media folks doing a draft based on their ideas of the most patriotic songs. I laughed hard at the two sports nerds having to explain to the gay nerds what a snake draft is. They picked some good ones . . . and some odd ones. And Fanfare for the Common Man clearly wins.

It's from 2016, so I imagine it's been around, but my coworker just showed me and I dug it. That woman is going to salt and burn their house. Or they're going to figure out a nice co-parenting schedule and everything will be fine. IDK. I poked around A03 to see if there was fic or if it'd blown up yuletide, but I couldn't find anything. [EDIT]I'm just real bad at looking today -> [personal profile] dine linked some in the first comment!

Speaking of Yuletide, nominations are open. I went real simple with two tv shows and a movie.

?! 9-1-1 (TV)

?! Evan "Buck" Buckley
?! Josh Russo (9-1-1) <- he's the dispatch trainer that was with Maddie all season 2.
?! Howie "Chimney" Han
?! Henrietta "Hen" Wilson

?! The Rookie (TV 2018)

?! Jackson West
?! Gino Brown (The Rookie) <- the nurse who deals with Jackson's issues and kisses him anyway
?! Talia Bishop
?! Tim Bradford

?! Rampage (2018)

?! Harvey Russell
?! Davis Okoye

NOTES:
This fic almost killed me! After a pretty huge copy/paste disaster on the turn in date, I lost the last 6,000 or so words. Cue massive fail on my part. I didn't realize how hard it is to rewrite that size chunk of a story. Unfortunately, that just led to me to procrastinate like crazy.

When I started out, I wanted to write something short and easy, y'know 20-25 thousand words. Alas, it didn't happen. Nearly 50,000 words later I have a fic that I love despite a couple of flaws and hopefully a story that some of you will enjoy too!

THANKS:
Huge thanks go out to [livejournal.com profile] ladyamarra for very pretty art! : ) It's really awesome considering that she had to deal with a very flakey author with an incredibly rough first draft.

This story would be much less without the combined effort of [livejournal.com profile] vipersweb and [livejournal.com profile] apricot_poodle. They each turned around amazingly quick but detailed betas when I really started foundering under the deadline. Seriously, if I ever end up meeting either of you, the drinks are on me! : )

FEEDBACK:
Like most authors, I love comments - short comments, long comments, silly comments and serious comments. I really appreciate any attempt at constructive criticism that will help me write better. Feel free to comment in my journal or email me at sly_bone at hotmail.com if you'd prefer.

that it makes me want to heckle everyone. Apparently you can take the girl out of the Spirit Band but you can't take the Spirit Band out of the girl. I'm at my dad's house this weekend so I went to church and the poor goofy youth minister went up to make the announcements and he was so bad. I had to bite my lip. Then the preacher yelled at us and told us we didn't love Jesus enough. It was a special kind of morning. : )

But, the point of this post is to share a couple of tunes for my boys.

Dear Jared,
I heard you might be having a hard time of it. Poor little fella, trust me, it'll get better. Here's a little something that might perk you up.

Enormous Penis I think by Bob and Tom

If you ever get so low
That you don't know which way to go
Come on and take a walk in my shoes
Never worry 'bout a thing
Got the world on a string
Cause i've got the cure for all of my blues (all of his blues)

Dear Jensen,
If they made a movie about the OU Sooners and cast you as Bob Stoops, I would watch it for you, and that really shows my love. You're awesome. (Please don't do a movie about the Sooners.)

Be Gentle With Me by The Boy Least Likely Too

So just be gentle with me
I'm not as young as I was
And I'll be gentle with you
I'm not as brave as I thought
'Cause my heart gets broken so easily
So just be gentle, be gentle with me

Dear Sam,
I'm gonna need for you to get it together before I have to come over there and slap you upside your head. Think about someone besides yourself.

Blood Makes Noise by Suzanne Vega

But blood makes noise
It's a ringing in my ear
Blood makes noise
And I can't really hear you
In the thickening of fear

Dear Dean,
I love you just the way you are. But I think that a montage of everything you've ever eaten ever would be hilarious. : ) Keep on truckin' because if Kripke screws you over, the fangirls will fix it.

H.E.L.P. is on the Way by The Beach Boys

Stark naked in front of my mirror
A pudgy person somehow did appear
Seems lately all I've eaten sugar and fat
It's getting obvious that's not where it's at
chase_acow: cam mitchell for sg-1 singing Ooo-klahoma (sg1 c oklahoma)
Let me preface by saying that this isn't as much a soundtrack as it is just a group of songs I listened to while I was writing And the World is Mine to Win. Some are from Daniel's POV and some from Cam's. I pick songs more for the way they sound than strictly by lyrics, so I make no promises that these make any sort of order in the grand scheme of things. They are, however, songs that I enjoyed and maybe you'll find one that you like.

Chasing You by Nural
The Ministrel’s Prayer by Cartel
Falling or Flying by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
Secret in your Eyes by Paul Gross and David Keeley
Long Promised Road by the Beach Boys*
Eye on You by Billy Squier
Wasted Words by Common Rotation
Sad Songs by Matt Nathanson
Leaving Train by Gillian Welch
Heavy Heart by You Am I
What I Need by James Marsters
Fighting for my Love by Nil Lara
You Belong to My Heart by Old 97s
Crazy Love by Thea Gilmore

* I promise that this is not normal Beach Boys. It's from one of those "Greatest Hits" compilations, but from the third disc. I didn't even know it was them until my dad told me.

All links go to my Box account. Songs are a mix of mp3 and m4a so you can preview some but not all. As always, if you like an artist consider supporting them. Thanks!

I only see [livejournal.com profile] ohnotheydidnt whenever I'm surfing my friendsfriends list, but I ran across this post of Shrieking Violets: 25 Butt-kicking Babes. Who would y'all add to this list? When I was little, I was completely taken with Red Sonja (the movie). I thought she was the most awesome female hero ever.

Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most.

I really like reading when other people do this, so I thought I'd give it a go. If you haven't done it, you should! : )

1. Close Encounters of the Showering Kind Ewan/Hayden NC-17
A draft of extremely cold air around his privates was the only warning he received.

This was one of the earliest things I wrote on this journal. I wanted to write everyday for a week and this is what came out. I think the boys are cute, but it may suffer a bit for the "any two guys" syndrome. I didn't really get into the SW RPS like I have SPN or SGA.

Three Cameron/Daniel, one Cameron/Rodney, and one Sam/Dean. )
chase_acow: cartoon cat Garfield looking cool incognito (Default)
I've had a busy weekend- a glorious football weekend there is nothing nothing better than OU(1) losing to Texas(5) and OSU(17) beating Mizzou(3)! : ) That's all just to say that while I really liked SPN 4.04 (better than 4.02) I probably won't have an ep response post until later, if then.

So, I really love the Winchester clan. In The Beginning really cemented it for me especially when I watched Mary be the first to give up everything (or have everything taken away) and sacrifice for family. Here's a mix of songs that poked out at me for Mary's story, but of course, the whole family is so wrapped up in one another that a lot of the songs also work for Dean or Sam. (I'm probably not the only one to name my iTunes playlist after characters right? I always gravitate to my Sam mix somehow.)

So, what I know about fashion wouldn't even fill up the world's smallest book. I do know that a lot of it is expensive. The models are beautiful and know how to work it. There's a lot of putting clothes on just to take them off. Finally, a lot of it is completely bizarre.

Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months. ~ Oscar Wilde )

This is an alt-country/outlaw country/red-dirt country/whatever you want to call it fanmix for Dean's last day. Creepy Little Noises by I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in the House is seriously awesome, if you one grab one song, take it. Needless to say, this might be a little depressing, but most of the songs are upbeat with that rock'n'roll feel. I hope y'all enjoy!

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to.

This was hard, because I have two different fan-mixes in the works right now. One for my SPN Big Bang which is still a couple of months away and the other is a S3 Dean-centric mix that I seriously need to get finished before the season ends. So anyway, steering away from those songs and trying to keep a variation of themes, this is what I came up with:

Hound Dog by Big Mama Thornton
She’s an old school soul singer. This version is raw, big and authentic. I can’t stand Elvis Presley and I really like this despite the connection.

Game Of Love by Wayne Fontana
A very fun song. My dad used to listen to it all the time while he sang and danced around the kitchen. I think it was also on the soundtrack to Good Morning Vietnam.

Magical Mystery Tour by Ambrosia
My marching band did a fanfare to this song, and at the time I had no idea where it was from. (One day we should have a marching band geek-gasm and upload show songs to share.)

Leap Of Faith by Big & Rich
There are only certain kinds of country music that I can stand. Normally, I don’t go in for crooning about tractors or puppy dog eyes, but Big & Rich are the exception. This is one of their slower songs that I really like.

Stopping Off Place by Townes Van Zandt
Vaguely reminiscent of Johnny Cash. He’s got one of those soulful voices that I find very relaxing. The songs I have are all pretty sad, this one isn’t the worst though.

Left Turn On A Red Light by Blackfoot (feat. Rickey Medlocke)
A little more rock’n’roll here, but still a little country feeling. Here we go with some angry music. One day I’m going to write a Bela & Ruby hunt fic for it. : )

And finally: Sink Hole by Drive-By Truckers
I admit that I don’t know anything about vidding, but I think this would make an awesome SG-1 S9/S10/Ark vid. It’s a little over the top alt country, but has some repetition that would make for some good visuals. I think it’d be a good Daniel POV for the fight against the Ori. It even starts and ends on a semi religious/blasphemous note. Srsly, I’d whore myself out to anyone who wanted to give it a shot. I’m just sayin’…

ETA lyrics for Sink Hole )

I tag anyone who wants to do it! : ) Ready, set, go!

All of these are on Box so you can listen before you commit, and most the links under the music tag should still work. Apologies for any mistakes, just let me know and tell me what you think! : )
chase_acow: Supernatural Sam with quote "Dude what the fuck?" (spn s wtf)

To the tune of Winchester Cathedral. (Link to Box, go ahead and have a listen. I dare ya!)

Sorry that I'm so boring lately and not of the Stargate-ness. The semester is wrapping up, and I'm going to have a nervous break down at how much money I'm going to owe the government when my two years are up. I'll do better. Swear.

Anti-Christmas Music Links go to Box in case you want to have a listen before you download.

I Won't Be Home For Christmas by Blink-182 - It's a caroler-bashing good time.

I Hate Christmas Parties by Relient K - Something nice and depressing.

December Is For Cynics by The Matches - A rocking beat and neat lyrics.

Yule Shoot Your Eye Out by Fall Out Boy - Fun to sing with. : )

Fairytale Of New York by KT Tunstall - Not quite anti-Christmas, but it's probably anti-something.

Also, Christmas Hush has been updated with:

A Mad Russian's Christmas - a little heavy metal
My Favorite Things - a light jazzy version
chase_acow: shawn spencer from Psych "Ruined Christmas" (winter psych ruined)
Christmas hush music on Box

Arry! by Advanced Potion-Making Upbeat, rock version of the theme song. I've associated Harry Potter with Christmas, but I have no idea why. : )

Father Christmas by Harry Gregson-Williams This is from The Chronicles of Narnia. It's really pretty.

Edward Scissorhands (main title) It kinda has to do with Christmas, yeah?

Messiah Organist On Crack My Spirit Band director passed this link around. I think it's just the most hilarious thing in the world. It gets good about halfway through. Go to the link and listen to it once, even if you don't download.

Silent Night by Hugh Laurie Don't get excited it's played on piano and very nice. Was this on House once? I have a faint recollection.

Trumpet Christmas Another from my Spirit Band director. Again, it's so funny, and perfect proof why there should never be more that one trumpet player on lead. Listen to it, even if you don't download, especially you band geeks.

A Mad Russian's Christmas by the TSO Heavy metal, fun and traditional. : )

My Favorite Things by The Brian Setzer Orchestra I love this song, and this is a catchy light jazz version.
chase_acow: cartoon cat Garfield looking cool incognito (sga mcshep penguins)
I admit it. My embarrassingly huge crush on Johnny Cash is entirely because of John Sheppard. I had absolutely no interest in listening to county - old country at that, until I fell head over heels in love with Sheppard and thought, "huh, guess I'll check that out." Last FM tells me that Mr. Cash is my top artist listened to overall. I'm kinda a dork, yeah? : )

I can hardly put on my denim jacket without adopting a Supernatural-like swagger.

You won't believe how many macaroon recipes I looked through after Cam made some for Sam.

All that's just to say that sometimes, I might possibly be geeky enough to shadow the habits of some of my favorite characters. I was just wondering if anyone else had stories to join me in geekery. Come on in, the water's fine!

SGA personality poll and quiz )

Also, I started rewatching due South today. I forgot what a punch the pilot is. I loved that show so much. My dad made me watch it back in the day they were showing it on TNT and we recorded every one to VHS. I was such a little slasher back then. I read everything on the Due South Fiction Archive faster than I knew what m/m meant. Buddy Breathing in particular has stuck with me through the years.

Anyway, while Fraser was angsting in the Pilot, a song was playing in the background and I went to find it immediately. So here you go, Superman's Song by the Crash Test Dummies. I've listened to it now ... lots. Yeah, let's stick with that.
chase_acow: Kennex from Almost Human (ah kennex)
Apparently, I'm last.

I've been listening to Oklahoma (link to box) on repeat for the last couple of days. I finally track down who it's by and it's Common Rotation which just happens to be Adam Busch's (Warren from Buffy) band.

Yeah, I feel kinda dumb.

BUT I'M TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH THEM NOW!

So I was wondering if anyone had any tracks they could share to tide me over until I find a CD to buy and get in my hot little paws.

Also, I watched Talladega Nights with my bub tonight and was surprised by how much I liked it. I think we're going to go back and get Blades of Glory sometime.

+ All right, I ended up with a Last.fm account over here at chase_acow. So if you want to see the weird stuff I listen too head over and give it a gander. I'm also tagging things based on the stargate character playlist I sort them into if that's of interest. I just got started though, feel free to friend.

~ Okay, so my family just decided who had to go to the grocery store for dinner tonight based on who had bathed most recently (my mum). Can anyone tell me that this isn't the most stupid thing you've ever hear, cuz I laughed my head off for a good two minutes.

+ Don't forget about all the fun going on over at [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match. Go vote for the stories (and vote well for Team Romance!) There's a mod post up now encouraging people who didn't participate (or those who did) to pick a prompt and write for it to be posted after the official fun but before the official winner.

~ I have a SPN icon from [livejournal.com profile] the_dean_show because they are adorable and I think if I ever finally watch an episode, all my love will belong to Dean.

++ I finally picked up my diploma. Mmmm shiny!

-------------- No job and no house.

~ I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] stock_100 with the claim of roads. I'm not sure why I did this thing, but I did. Good luck to me.

Babe by Styx (I love Styx, they're fun to sing in the shower.)
Babe, I'm leaving, I must be on my way
The time is drawing near
My train is going, I see it in your eyes
The love, the need, your tears
But I'll be lonely without you
And I'll need your love to see me through
Please believe me, my heart is in your hands
And I'll be missing you.

Baby's On Fire by The Venus In Furs (It's from that special scene in Velvet Goldmine. If you don't know, man are you missing out.)
If you'll be my flotsam
I could be half the man I used to
They said you were hot stuff
And that's what baby's been reduced to

Bad Company by Bad Company (My personal theme song. I might have stolen it from John Sheppard.)
Company Always on the run
Destiny is the rising sun
Oh I was born 6-gun in my hand
Behind a gun I'll make my final stand
That's why they call me Bad company

Beast of Burden by Rolling Stones (I like the ending best.)
Ill never be your beast of burden
My back is broad but its a hurting
All I want is for you to make love to me

Behind Blue Eyes by The Who (Who doesn't love this song?)
But my dreams they aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

Bohemian Rhapsody by CMB 2002 (This is from my first year in marching band! Ah, memories.)
Nothing really matters,
Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters-,nothing really matters to me,
Any way the wind blows....

Bone Of Contention by Spirit Of The West (From the Due South soundtrack. I like it because it's different.)
And he grabbed you by the hand
And he pulled and pulled
As someone pushed him and he fell
On the front page of America

Bother by Corey Taylor (For when you want to be depressed...)
You don't need to bother;
I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on,
I won't let go 'til it bleeds

Burning Heart by Survivor (Another favorite band. I think I need to go watch some Rocky.)
Two worlds collide, rival nations
It's a primitive clash, venting years of frustrations
Bravely we hope against all hope, there is so much at stake
Seems our freedom's up against the ropes

Build Me Up, Buttercup by The Foundations (I have no excuse. It's fun.)
To you I'm a toy
But I could be the boy
You adore
If you'd just let me know
Although you're untrue
I'm attracted to you
All the more
Why do I need you so Baby Baby.....
