Apparently I've been lying about not liking concerts for at least a while. I've told people they're boring and too long and loud. Well, this last concert was an adventure.

First it started pouring rain in the afternoon, and the doors open time got pushed back from 5:30 to 6:30, and eventually 7:30. It wasn't pouring, but I had the hood of my hoodie up while we waited in line. I'm so glad I remembered to pack it at the last moment. Spent all night irritatingly damp but otherwise fine while the rain moved away and we were sitting under the roof in actual stadium seats.

The first act was Robert Earl Keen and it was . . . bad. I thought, yes, vindication (in a Raymond Holt voice) concerts are stupid. I could only understand a handful of words and the sound system was completely jacked. Several people in line had come to see him specifically so I assumed that was the best it would get.

Friends and enemies, I was very wrong.

The Avett Brothers were much more high energy, and they had the lights, smoke, and camera system cues working for them. Most importantly the sound system made them loud but balanced and I could hear all the part and actually understand all the words even the songs I didn't know. Probably this only worked for me because I've been following this group for idk, more than ten years maybe? I had such a good, laid back time. I wore my mask and because of the rain and late start, the place was not packed. Nobody touched me. I came home with that poster up there and a tshirt.

The rest of the trip was good, I caught up with Ruth and tried to encourage her with all the stuff she's trying to get better at like cleaning her apartment and some sort of new therapy she's doing. We went to Crystal Bridges Art Museum. This Portrait of Bob was one of my favorites.

The dogs were very happy to get back into the house and the air conditioning when I got home on Saturday.

the best birthday twin a gal could ask for!

Today, I'm:

going to the lake - though it is kinda windy here in town so it might be a short visit.
going to a movie - I think I'll go see Old just to say I did.
mowing my backyard - gross, and it means two showers in a day - yuck

I went and got the oil changed in the newish car because tomorrow I'm:
driving into the unvaccinated wasteland of Arkansas
to stay with my vaccinated! friend for a couple of nights
and go to an outdoor concert featuring The Avett Brothers!

one more, sadder )

In there somewhere, I hope to find comfortable pants made out of not denim with a fuckload of pockets to wear to my hellhole of a work place where they decided not to do their jobs, but instead micromanage mine while outlawing jeans and hoodies. We work in a mfing basement dungeon across from the safety guys who get to slop around in gross clothes, and when some vip comes down to tour, there is always a day's warning so we can dress up.

I have five applications out right now. Pls, if there is a spaghetti monster, let one of them work out. Though since school starts on Monday, I imagine it's gonna be a bit before they get around to cutting resumes and interviewing the leftovers.

being home and awake on a Saturday morning knowing that I don't have to go to work tonight. I don't remember the last time this happened, though it will also be the last for a while as my University is having a COVID party cleverly disguised as a football game next week and I'll be working then. This is all a mess.

Last weekend finished the celebration of my birthmonth and after everyone passed the 'have you been quarantining well?' test we decided to risk a get together for home made nachos (they were so good), the game Ticket To Ride (won one, lost one, got real drunk), and a VOD showing of Bill and Ted: Face the Music (...).

...

Let me just say in all capital letters: I LOVE THE FIRST TWO BILL AND TEDS AND I ALSO REALLY ENJOYED WATCHING FACE THE MUSIC.

it's not too negative if you want the non spoilery deets. )

Went to the dog park this morning. Pepper, the little dog, had a great time running with the big dogs and everyone laughed and encouraged her. She mostly behaved. It was very warm. I'm super looking forward to this cool down on Tuesday. It will be sleep with the window open time.

eh. . .

happy birthday to me from my dad, the mostly blind artist.
: )

I took a day off, and went to the lake yesterday, but I'm saving the hotdog roast until I'm finished with night shift Saturday as a reward for staying up all day to reset my sleep schedule. At the end of the month a few of us are planning on getting together for dinner and Bill and Ted: Face the Music. I'm excited for a new movie and for being awake when qdoba is open.

I interviewed for a job in payroll and they're supposed to decide this week. I want it. It's a paycut, but out of the public, overtime accessible, gets me out of training and out of that hellhole.

I've decided when I win the lottery I'm moving to a big house on the outskirts of Santa Fe. I've daydreamed through several beautiful choices on the realtor sites.

Happy Birthday yesterday to me and best Chris (Hemsworth, though by the edge of his teeth because MIB should have knocked him back down among the peasants).

Some friends came into town and I used the excuse to go to a new place. It's a farm to table type family style dining out on a faux country club setting. It was fun to see them and catch up, the place was beautiful, but alas the food . . . not great. Chicken & Waffles are amazing and appropriate for any meal time, but bone in chicken, not the easiest thing to eat or pretend to be tidy with in a fancy place.

I am still not a fan of mimosas, which makes me sad.

Today, I'm going to see Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, but it's a toss up for just how much time I'm going to spend hiding my eyes in my hoodie. The movie is rated PG-13, but those books, the illustrations, and the practical effects they've put in the movie are all custom built to make me sleep with the lights on for the rest of the week.

I'm also going to reverse sear some steaks tonight, and I'm going to the lake to finish my book tomorrow. So, pretty adequate birthday days off. Wednesday at work is move-in day so basically hell on earth. Yay.

Had an adequate b-day weekend. With the trainee at work, so I couldn't take time off, but I don't know what I would have done if I did. It was Trainee's b-day on Friday and she's young enough that her family came up to visit and brought a giant chocolate-chocolate-chocolate cake and I benefited from that so I did get a piece of cake on my day. I was just going to make due with sushi. : )

I like this trainee. One out of two isn't bad right? I hope the other girl quits, her personality is all wrong from this job. Also she's very young and shallow, and now I'm very old and easily annoyed.

The Meg -> Nice action, good looking sharks. Sadly, there was sense making science and action heroes who liked to make decent plans.

I prefer shark horror over shark action, but it was a fun couple of hours. Li Bingbing and Ruby Rose were great.

WANT! Of course, I should probably pick up SG-1 Season 10 at some point.

I was fingerprinted by a very cute policeman this morning. What a way to start my day. : )

On my way to get fingerprinted, I was listening to Rush Limbaugh and realized that I can no longer listen to Rush Limbaugh. When I was little my dad and I would listen to his show all the time, and I soaked it up like the wet sponge I was. Now ... mostly he makes me want to puke. I don't think my love affair with Paul Shanklin will go anywhere, though.

Getting ready for a very special birthday post tomorrow. My writs ache and I think I've been in Hardees for the last three + hours. The things I do for y'all...

It's my birthday! Yay, I'm 23 years old! Whoo!

My roommate brought home a ten week old kitten. It's adorable but it scratched the hell out of my finger yesterday and today I got garlic butter on it. Hurt like hell.

On Wednesday I went to see my dad get married. It was weird and awkward.

I'm impatiently waiting on my copy of Military/Intelligence to arrive as well as my other birthday presents to myself. Silly mail guy. Ah, well, maybe tomorrow.

So for those of you silly enough to not be a member of [livejournal.com profile] glockart, I just wanted to point you towards some lovely McShep watercolor here.

*sighs*

I love Glock.

Also, I'm on page ten of the most inane gen piece of fiction that I've ever written. Well, it's kinda gen. As close as I can get, anyway. Which basically means that Cameron and Daniel are doing it like bunnies, but off screen in a very unstated way. [/sentence abuse]

My birthday is on Friday, and I am doing exactly ... nothing. Which is okay. Last year I was up until three in the morning bawling my eyes out. So, a little peace and quiet and Stargate will be good for me.

[livejournal.com profile] slashfest is due on Friday! I haven't even started! Eeeeeee!

Go to Wikipedia. In the Search box, type your birth month and day (but not year). List three events that happened on your birthday. List two important birthdays and one interesting death. Post this in your journal.

1929 - Babe Ruth becomes the first baseball player to hit 500 home runs in his career with a home run at League Park in Cleveland, Ohio.

1966 - John Lennon holds a press conference in Chicago apologizing for stating that the Beatles were "more popular than Jesus".

1984 - United States President Ronald Reagan, during a voice check for a radio broadcast remarks "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes".

1921 - Alex Haley, American historian and novelist (d. 1992)
1953 - Hulk Hogan, American professional wrestler

480 BC - Leonidas, King of Sparta

In other news, I'm just beginning to write a paper that's due in three hours. I'm so screwed. Tonight, I'm going to a basketball game with The-Boy-Who-Bruised-My-Heart it should be fun. Tomorrow I'm taking the Foreign Service Written Exam which is the first step to accomplishing my life-long dream. Wish me luck.

So, my dear flist, try not to be too entertaining since I probably won't be able to catch up from yesterday and today until Sunday. Boo!

This post is brought to you because:

1. I just watched Down With Love.
2. I feel like dancing.
3. It's my birthday so I can write random, nonsensical, mini-fic if I want too.

Besides, everyone dances in their kitchen sometime.

Being Human - (Anakin/Obi-Wan)

Surprise was only the first emotion that flittered through Anakin the morning he woke to find Obi-Wan dancing in the kitchen. )
