chase_acow: shawn spencer from Psych "Ruined Christmas" (winter psych ruined)
I only bought 6 months of paid time for DW. I didn't post or comment much at all this last year - which felt bad. I would prefer to be more active on a journal site which was more active, but it's so hard! I look through Discord daily and Tumblr when I'm bored at work - which is every time I'm at work. I figure this way if I manage to reengage, I've got my icons for 6 months and then I can suffer until December and the sale comes around again! \0/

Over at [personal profile] dine's journal, I briefly lost touch with sanity and opened way too many tabs to check sources about university color codes. I really am sorry. There's nothing worse than an internet version of someone pushing their glasses up their noses and going well, actually . . ..

Um . . . I saw Wonka and enjoyed it despite my dislike of Timothée Chalamet. It turns into a fun heist movie. There were a bunch of college aged girls in there (not even sitting all together) who all immediately started snickering when he first sang "Come with me . . ." so I assume there's a meme out there. It ruined the nostalgia a little bit.
chase_acow: velvet goldmine Brian and Curt kissing pic from the papers (vg kiss)
Why is duolingo spanish so into making sure I know how to say 'Mi madre es elegante'? When is that ever going to come up in conversation?

I'm staying home again to make it a FOUR day week-end, but I absolutely have to go to work tomorrow. I intend to make a cherry-chocolate-cola dump cake so it's not so sad. My side street is just covered with snow, and I haven't seen anyone drive through it in the last three hours. I'm sure the main roads are fine, as long as I can get there.

I've enjoyed Jason Mantzoukas in The Good Place, Brooklyn 99, and The Long, Dumb Road, but his role in Pam & Tommy might be the best thing yet. Sebastian Stan bares everything, including a couple of different prosthetic penises. Those thongs he wears are something else, but he looks so scrawny.

I want to make some icons for [community profile] smallbatchicons February Femmes challenge here.

If everyone knows this trick, then don't mind me, but I thought just in case I'd share it. For some reason the [community profile] snowflake_challenge friending meme always overwhelms me to the point I just avoid it now. But if you want to look around for actual posts of people you might want to subscribe to, you can always look at https://snowflake-challenge.dreamwidth.org/read to see their member's actual posts. It's similar to viewing your network page but without the feeds which I'm not a big fan of.

one more on the cloudier next day )

a. I spent Fri/Sat nights at a cabin at Foss State Park and had a good time. The lake was real low, and sadly I did not have a good view from the cabin, but there was a great rooster across the street that crowed at any and every time of the day.
b. It was really for my little brother's wedding in a tiny town about 20 mins away. The wedding was cute and everyone in our stupid family behaved. They've got three kids altogether and they did a great job blending their families and getting all the kids involved.
c. I also spent three hours watching my football team choke away a conference championship in a game that came down to the last second and about ten inches. (We wouldn't have been in a nail biter if it hadn't been for the FOUR F-ING INTERCEPTIONS and TERRIBLE PLAY CALLING IN BACK-TO-BACK RED ZONE POSSESSIONS!!!) I'm fine.

2. I'm doing episode reaction posts over at [community profile] disneyplusshows for the Hawkeye series. I'm really enjoying Kate, a disaster, Lucky, he eats pizza, and the soundtrack, holiday music!
episode 3, episode 2, and episode 1
2a. Friendly reminder that if someone is ruining a community or your network page, there is a CSS code you can use to block their posts and comments so that you don't have to see their crappy commentary. Here's the tumblr post explaining, but if you need any help, let me know!

3. I finally posted my Professional Wrestling AU Sam/Bucky fic for [community profile] marvel_bang! I'm so glad to get it out of my wip folder cuz I had a lot of fun with it, but I also wanted to strangle it at several points.

The art is HERE and it is really cute! Please head over there and look at Sam's awesome jacket, and Bucky's yoga pants and how soft they are playing footsie under the table. Also, a kitten!!!!

All American Face (14632 words) by chase_acow
Fandom: Captain America (Movies)
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Sam Wilson
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe, Professional Wrestling - Freeform, the briefest mentions of pain medication addiction, the briefest mentions of racism and homophobia, ridiculous wrestling soap opera style storylines, Sam's real life is kinda ridiculous too though
Summary:

After Steve is screwed out of the championship by Rumlow and the surprise return of Bucky Barnes now playing a brainwashed goon called the Winter Soldier, Sam has to deal with his real life crush on Bucky and competing professional storylines for the camera.

When he outs them on national television during a tag-team match after Bucky gets hurt, the reaction from the world is actually positive. Sam has to decide what he really wants for a life after wrestling, but not before he wipes that stupid smirk off Rumlow's face and gets his own chance at the title.

I just wanted to double check that there's not a way to make dreamwidth never show you a post from a particular user on a community? I would in fact like to never see this person's user name or pseudo intellectual BS again, but I would like to keep watching the community.

ETA: yes you can, answer in my comment!
chase_acow: Curly a cowboy from the musical Oklahoma (cowboy curly)

[community profile] sunshine_challenge

Prompt 2: Fannish Identity

About my user name

[personal profile] chase_acow - it's from the musical Oklahoma! And the song The Farmer and The Cowman -> One man likes to push a plough, the other likes to chase a cow

It took me several years to get here, but it's been my moniker since May 2007 and it will be part of my epitaph. I identify as a sports Cowboy (1), and it's better than being a sooner. Sure the song is about 'being friends' but that's just cause Aunt Eller has a gun pointed every which way.(2) It's a prideful kinda feeling instead. You know how humans like to sort themselves into like groups. The male lead in Oklahoma is Curly, and that's him in my icon!

Anywho, here is a version of the song from the Hugh Jackman production. He's not in it a lot because this isn't a Curly song, but it's still a good one.

About my default icon

I loved Garfield as a kid. Little did I know that "A fat, lazy, sarcastic orange tabby, who wants nothing more out of life than to eat and sleep."(3) would become the patron saint of my adult life. I made the icon, but I don't actually remember where the image came from, so here's some links to the full movies:

here is Garfield's Nine Lives which will make you laugh, and make you cry, and make you question your creator.
here is Garfield's Holidays the xmas one is super.

I've probably been using it since I made it in 2006. I don't put it on a lot of entries, because i have a lot of icons, and everyone who looks at my user info or journal gets to see Garfield. I like that he's there, just hanging without asking too much from me. He doesn't give much away except that he's cool, and he is probably up to no good.

About me

If I'd picked my now username out originally, I probably would have gone by Chase online and then it would have made a little more sense, but I didn't. Instead I took my middle name - Renae which I still love and this is a pretty name. My Dad picked it because he liked the song Walk Away Renee which is an odd choice even if you're not counting the spelling choice.

She/her pronouns are fine. I identify on the queer (4) spectrum somewhere, and though I'm not interested in finding the perfect lable, I suppose it would be somewhere in the ace/aro gray area. I like exploring the themes just fine in media i consume and create, but I'm not interested much for my personal life.

I am more than happy to help with anything. Got a question about the mid/south/whatever west, law enforcement, anything else I talk about? I would love to yak at you. Look at a fic/art/thing before you publish -> I'll do my best. Open permission. You just want to say something to a stranger on the internet who will either just listen or offer advice based on your request? I'm here.(5)

(1) Not the blue kind.
(2) Though she did leave me with this quote I have taken to heart: "I don't say I'm no better than anybody else But I'll be damned if I ain't jist as good!"
(3) however, while working on this post I also found this article about the most terrifying garfield strips so don't think it's all fun and lasagna.
(4) don't @ me, it's the most inclusive language and that's why I love it.

2. When did you create your LJ, and what brought you here? How did you get your username? Has it changed?

Oh man, I know I had a livejournal in 2002, but for the life of me, I can't remember what it was called. I changed to chase_acow years ago and I've been super happy with it. It's from the song 'The Farmer and the Cowman' from Oklahoma ->

The farmer and the cowman should be friends.
Oh, the farmer and the cowman should be friends.
One man likes to push a plough, the other likes to chase a cow,
But that's no reason why they cain't be friends.

and because my team is the Cowboys (the ones in orange, not blue and silver). Something about it just makes me happy and it's me, right there in a couple of words. : )

I created my DW on 4/8/09 because I wanted a safe place, and LJ did not seem to be that
My current incarnation of LJ was created on 3/10/05, but I know there were at least two others first.

I came for the fic, I wanted to write fic and share it. Along the way, I'd like to think that I did make some friends, though I seem to have lost most of them now. Maybe one day I'll start posting enough to really interact with people again. I doubt it though, it's so hard now that I'm working twelve hour shifts 8pm to 8am. There's no time for anything!
chase_acow: cartoon cat Garfield looking cool incognito (spn S wanting)
I'm still floundering about in post worst-semester-of-my-life stress, but I think I'm getting better. Slowly but surely. Where's some demon blood when I need a pick-me-up?

I just finished watching the first season of Supernatural with my friend, and I'm really excited that she's enjoying it! More converts! However, it's just about killing me to see the boys at the happiest that we get to knowing what's going on now in S4. I noticed a whole bunch of stuff and realized several other things. For instance:

1. Sam kept a framed picture of John and Mary out in his apartment at Stanford? That really, really hit me across the forehead when we were watching the pilot. I mean, for a guy that supposedly wanted to break off all ties, that's kinda nostalgic.

2. I miss Dean's non growly voice. He's just so young here, but now he looks like he's aged ten years instead of four. No offense to Jensen who I have always found more attractive than Dean and does not look like he's approaching forty from the front end of a railway train.

3. Sam used to laugh a lot. Mostly at Dean and it was really attractive. When was the last time we heard him laugh? Since Dean made his deal?

4. John. I still and forever will hates him. I think that I decided that John must have just given Dean the Impala when he sent Dean out to New Orleans to get him out of the way so John could pull his disappearing act.

5. I really liked the way they filmed S1. There is a definite difference in the camera work and the shots they get. I'm no professional, or even that interested, but I noticed.

Also, I'm not disabling comments on LJ yet (I have no plans to at the moment), but I am crossposting everything from DW now. If you have both accounts friended/subscribed and want to drop me, that's cool -> I just don't want to miss any of your content now that I'm checking my flist/rlist again. So, keep that in mind if you post locked stuff.

I have so much work to do on my Big Bang, it's not even funny. And I think I'm going to have to cut my favorite part and it makes me sad!
chase_acow: cartoon cat Garfield looking cool incognito (fs woe)
This semester is not ending well, and I have no one to blame but myself. My papers are not/have not gone well and I might end up flunking a class. I haven't slept more than three hours at a time and six hours in a twenty-four hour period since Wednesday. I've eaten crap, and there's more caffeie in my system than anything else. Detox is not going to be a pretty sight. I pulled out in front of someone today on an emergency trip to the library, I think I may not leave my apartment until my heart rate has settled down again.

Hi new people at DW! Just give me a week and then I'll be entertaining and get my act together, I swear. : ) Check out my into post and let me know if you'd like me to grant you access if/when I post anything locked. It's for you, not me. *grins* I don't want to bother anyone with personal posts if you're just around for fandom stuff.

Speaking of DW, I have three codes I can give away if anyone wants one or knows of anyone who wants one. I just don't have time right now to go searching people out.

SPN/J2 BIG BANG! \0/ I finished my Sam/Dean fic though at the moment, I promise nothing about readability. It looks like all the fics are going to be claimed by artists today, which is awesome even if I'm a little bummed that I won't get the chance to try to make some arty stuff this year. I've already stalked my artist *waves* and I'm very excited. Okay, I'll get really excited after I turn in my paper tomorrow at five and then go into a coma for at least twelve hours. Congrats to everyone who finished, and if you didn't manage, don't quit working on your fic! We still want to read it!
chase_acow: Let's Go to Prison a fistbump in the showers (random fist bump)
Okay, not really. I had an awesome time at Conestoga talking with people and sitting in on panels. I bought earrings with little dangly bass clefs! The treble clefs are easy to find, but I guess there's not as much of a demand from the low brass squadron. I also got some ideas for original work and how to revise Heaven's Dark Hall. I have a few notes that did not include how much the authors talked about (and made fun of) Twilight that I intend to write up later just for fun, but I don't have time now.

I have a paper due on Thursday, Monday, and Tuesday for finals plus I'm not finished with my Big Bang yet. I will finish damn it! I haven't watched last week's SPN because I pretty sure that it's gonna wipe me out for awhile. So, I don't mean to neglect you flist, but I have to. I would much rather hang out with y'all.

In case you didn't know, Dreamwidth launches Open Beta this week. They are using invite codes to try to keep spam accounts and huge growth down. You'll be able to buy a paid account for a month with $3. At the same time, they will be handing out codes to everyone who currently has a journal or OpenID account. So, if you are not going to buy an account, or want to check it out before you buy leave a comment here and I'll pass out whatever codes I get to a first come first served audience. I don't care if you're on my flist or if you don't even have a livejournal account, if you want a Dreamwidth I want to help you get one. : ) I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed.
chase_acow: cartoon cat Garfield looking cool incognito (spn D reading)
I'm finally writing my Big Bang. I did a little over a thousand words yesterday bringing my grand total to four thousand! Woo! Only about 5/6 of the story left to go now in about fourteen days. No problem.

In other news that may or may not be related, I'd appreciate if you could give me your opinion here.

[Poll #1384823]

Also, I don't think I've mentioned a feature of Dreamwidth that I'm really glad to have.

They took away the ability for users to flag other users for content. I think they're changing the wording for if you choose to change your journal/entries status to Adults or Not Safe For Work. In my opinion best of all, they've added a field so that you can explain why you decided a particular entry should be considered adult/nsfw. "Why" is important! : )

Call me a conspiracy nut, but after LJ's strikethrough, boldthrough, flags and other fuck ups, I would never voluntarily label myself with adult content. I figured it'd be like painting a bull's eye right on your forehead. But, after reading Dreamwidth's diversity statement (Read it and get excited!) I feel completely confident and safe using their adult content status. I feel better for doing my part to lay the guilt on underaged people clicking to read my explicit gay sex stories. I say that with love, being a former guilty underaged gal reading other people's explicit gay sex stories.

If any of y'all have questions about Dreamwidth, I'd be happy to try and find the answers.

Announcing an oklahoma community at Dreamwidth!

There are plenty of things to do in Oklahoma! We just have to find them. : )

1. This community is for announcing/pimping official events taking place in the state of Oklahoma (or surrounding areas because I'm not too picky).

2. This community is also a place to find information about Oklahoma for personal (or fic) use. Got a question? Ask here! Oklahomans are known for, among other things, being very friendly.

3. This community is also (also) a place, should you so choose in a manner with which I take no responsibility, to attempt a meet up for people of similar interests. Want to organize a group to go to Shakespeare in the Park? Here's a place to do that, just be careful.

Community is under construction, but feel free to dive right in. Comment with things to do in April here at the round up entry or make a new post. Apologies for being Stillwater centered, but that's what you get until/unless somebody else speaks up!

If/when any of y'all get a Dreamwidth account, come on over to Oklahoma! If you have no interest in an account, you could create an Open ID account linked with your LiveJournal to be involved. With an Open ID you can upload icons and validate your email to receive replies to an comments you make anywhere on DW. If that still isn't your cup of tea, check us out and if you ever have anything to share, please hit me up.

Okay, so I imported all my entries from my chase_acow (I'm really going to remember how to link back to LJ soon...) which is awesome. Then I tried to import entries from the LJ I had before chase_acow but it only grabbed half a dozen posts out of 200. : (

Boy and Girl Wonders: Robin in Cultural Context by Mary Borsellino

You can read about it here or go straight to the ordering here. Apparently proceeds will be going to charities that help children in crises. I'd be interested in what it goes into, so let me know if anyone buys it and enjoys it. : )

[livejournal.com profile] digitalwave has the best post here that I agree with 100% about SPN S4, Sam, and Dean.

Dreamwidth journals! Dreamwidth Studios will open to the public on the evening of April 30, 2009. At that time, you can create an account with an invite code from an existing user, or purchase a paid account. We will announce our exact opening time soon.

I'm excited about this! I'd much rather buy a paid account over there than here on LJ. Want to know why? Well, [livejournal.com profile] telesilla says it all right here. I won't abandon my LJ but I really hope fandom takes off over there. : )

[livejournal.com profile] anniehow wrote Rule #7, Always Be Specific When You Lie which is an SPN/NCIS crossover with Dean and Castiel. I don't know NCIS so they were just a bunch of suits to me but the Dean and Castiel exchanges are awesome. I was entertained. : )
