Transformative Works Policy

You want to create fan works based on stories I have written? OMG, that's awesome!!! Feel free to remix a fic, write a sequel, create fan art, or podfic my works. I'd ask you to credit the original work that inspired yours and that you link back to it. I'd also love the chance to check it out!
Podfic: if any small modifications to the words/dialog are needed to make it flow better, that's fine with me.

ABOUT ME
Hello friends and enemies. I write things (I'm trying a habit goal of writing for 300 days this year at @getyourwordsout). I tinker with graphics- while I'll never be great at it, I do enjoy it.
I try to make posts that have links, videos, or pics to make them look interesting.
I am/was super into US politics but I wish I wasn't, and am definitely taking a step back for the year. I'll come back to help with the midterms. I rarely post about politics, but I'm up for good faith questions/discussions.
I play the trombone in my local community band!
I have four inside cats, and one who declared herself an outside cat and bitterly complains when I bring her in during bad weather. There's another stray who discovered her food and now hangs around. I keep trying to get him into TNR clinic, but I think he'd also make a good inside pet for someone else. Maybe I can get Animal Welfare to take him soon.
I'll try to talk about anything!

So here's a roundup of where you can find me.

I add people to my circle whenever I see posts I'm interested in. I try to comment, but sometimes I'm not great. So I totally understand random friending and lurkers. No big deal around here. On the other hand if you're a talker, excellent! My schedule isn't always the most consistent and I don't log on at work, but I have lost my last fuck and am now clicking any link I want to at work. I try want to reply as much as possible.

movies

I really enjoyed both the book and the movie for Remarkably Bright Creatures - Remarkably Bright Creatures is a bestselling debut novel by Shelby Van Pelt about a widow, Tova Sullivan, who works at an aquarium and forms an unlikely friendship with a giant Pacific octopus named Marcellus, who helps her solve the mystery of her son's disappearance. The charming and witty story explores themes of grief, connection, and hope, and has been adapted into a popular Netflix film starring Sally Field, Lewis Pullman, and Alfred Molina voicing Marcellus.

I cried during both, which was more of a problem when I was driving listening to the excellent audio book. Highly recommend.

If you like Guy Ritchie heist-like movies, then In The Grey will be a fun movie. It is not quite as tight as his others, there was apparently some studio meddling to cut the runtime down. But it's basically Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal flirting and being very competent and loyal mercenaries. Eiza González is also very good as the mastermind.

The good news: I am 95% sure I have a new job!
The better news: They want to bring me in at my current pay! Without night shift or life/death decisions!
The reason I've been waiting for weeks: HR is sucking sour lemons because the pay was lower on the job posting.

I've already transitioned to day shift to make the move easier, and I've got some leave to burn if it does take longer for HR to get their ducks in a row.

But not all my leave, because I'm taking four days off in May to take a trip to Philly. I'm going to eat everything, see as many museums as possible, go to two baseball games, and have myself a real good time. I hope the weather cooperates. I hope I don't see a single ICE(HOLE) agent. I hope I don't get too nervous coming back through security at the Philly airport - it won't be an issue on the way there since I'm leaving through the tiny local airport.

Apparently IT flagged a website on my work profile on Jan 10th - it had started to block some image content so I was annoyed if nothing else. When I got into work yesterday, my boss caught me, told me that happened, and asked about what the website was. I said I had no idea what he was talking about. He said Captain had looked at it and said it was some sort of creative writing site. I thought maybe it was Ellipsus because it wanted rights to store locally, he seemed tickled, but kept telling me I wasn't in trouble. I went okay, and internally whatever, because I of course give no fucks about this work place right now, other than making sure I get a paycheck.

Then I realized that the content blocking had started on Dreamwidth.

Then I spiraled.

I think I'd already locked all the work related entries where I specifically called out their bullshit, but obviously I DO NOT WANT MY BOSSES ON THIS JOURNAL!!!!

DANGER WILL ROBINSON, DANGER

So, I figured out how to mass access lock all my entries, which is a bummer during the most active month of the year. And when I was trying to post more. I changed all the fic access on AO3 to registered users only, which I didn't want to do. And I don't really know what else to do now. This user name is linked to all my writing, all the kink memes - which I have outgrown, but also all the everything. I love it. It's been me for decades.

Do I abandon everything? Do I just go on with my life because the cows are definitely out of the barn already? They probably don't care. They can't afford to fire me any time soon. - And I don't think I actually broke any rules.

Here are a couple of other places I've been online:

snowflake_challenge's member's posting page -lets you see all the active people and what they're posting without clicking through the comments page to each challenge.

Glitter and Greed: The Lisa Frank Story is a four part documentary on Prime. The story is terrible, she is a terrible person. I still love those kittens, and the orca.

Arnold's Pump Club Newsletter - Yes, that Arnold, but lest you think this is only for gym bros and folks who shovel plain chicken breast and rice in their mouth all day, let me tell you, it is DEFINITELY for everyone. They consistently say they want to be a positive corner of the internet, and they are! They share research and will tell you if something is hinky due to a small sample size or inconsistent methodology.

Has it been a while since you've played Spider Solitaire?

And hey, if you're feeling generous and wanted to toss something my way:

1. A Plus upgrade for my Storygraph account. If I can keep updating through February, I might buy one myself but it's been so hard to keep the habit up in years past. I only have a goal of 12 books for 2026.

2. A tarot reading for the new year.

3. Something to get my writing juice back. It's been over a year since I managed anything more than an edit or a new sentence or two.

4. For y'all to post some wishes.

I wasn't going to do anything for this prompt, but then with the date I started thinking and figured I might as well throw those thoughts out into the void.

accidental politics, skip if you want to )

I'm grateful I grew up when I did, and for the people who helped educate me.

I've decided to leave my inside tree and tinsel up until it actually snows. The 60-70 degree weather has been nice for my walking, but I want it to be cold, dang it. I'm also just going to keep using the icons too, since I missed December. : )

The pets are still all right. I was unable to move the stray cat on to a better place, so Remy is now a 60% outside 40% inside cat. The others mostly tolerate him. Got him snipped in the middle of December and I think the hormone changes is messing with everybody because he now just gets in a mood and starts stalking the others. They do not appreciate this.

All together, they make a pretty perfect cat. In order that they appear closest to the camera:

Mackie: always comes in to nap with me, biggest but also highest pitched meow, best ekekek noise
Creed: tiny lapcat, tiny little pink triangle mouth as she yells at me, sassy
Shark: sweetest most perfect boy who has never done anything wrong in his whole life and has the best "Whaaaaaaaaaa" sound instead of a meow.
Bear: is a box fiend, aloof cat so it means more when she decides to spend time touching me
Remy: sprawls over my chest and tucks his head under my chin, seems to really appreciate the soft things in life, also he bites toes

icebreaker

I really thought I was going to get to march triumphant back into posting in September, clutching a new job the way a child half strangles their first fuzzy pet. I got through three interviews and checks on all my references, an extra week of waiting because the hiring manager had a funeral, only to be told they were going with the other candidate.

They could/wouldn't give any feedback for anything I could do better.

It took four weeks and a handful of job applications that didn't even lead to a first interview to pull myself out of a depression pit.

Got a couple of interviews for a job with HR, someone important reached out to them on my behalf (my one and only attempt at networking), they weren't interested in my references, they picked someone else. They also could/wouldn't give any feedback on any part of the process I could tweak to do better next time.

I figured that was really my one shot and I still couldn't get over the finish line.

Did an interview with a job I didn't want and the red flags were everywhere. I worried about making a choice to exchange one hell for another. I don't even know why. They kicked me out of the hiring pool with a form letter.

I wallowed for another several weeks.

I am now mostly getting up before noon, I'm on a 13 day walking streak, and I have three buckets of protein under the sink to use with the shiny new blender Santa gave me for fruity smoothies.

2026 is looking up?
