chase_acow: hangman from top gun with the text b_aby g_rl as a play on his helmet (tg babygirl)
[community profile] ladybusiness shares links that caught their attention, and the link that caught my attention was I am a "MasterChef" survivor:
Have you ever wondered what kind of person auditions for reality TV? Here's my story, and what I saw

Seeing how the cow gets slaughtered to make the hamburger is pretty off-putting when it comes to actual human beings and their mental health. Yet the billion dollar industry knows exactly how to get us addicted. The essay was published in 2018, and I wonder if anything's changed - not like only covid- but with the increased scrutiny on mental health.

HERE are some great Ted Lasso icons by [personal profile] magicrubbish
I haven't watched it yet, so I didn't snag any, but they are so pretty!

deadline's oscar snubs writeup - I too am upset about the extreme lack of respect and awe for The Woman King

For best pic, I've seen: Top Gun: Mav, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and The Banshees of Inisherin. I wanted to see Triangle of Sadness and The Fabelmans, but neither came to my theater. I'm hoping for Everything.

Speaking of movies, I thought this page about the most filmed locations in every state was fun to look at. Nice infographics.
chase_acow: Jason Todd from the comic Wayne Family Adventures saying "it was like this when i found it" (comics hood didn't do it)
I also replaced the fridge light which had gone out in March 2020. I'm sure there's some sort of metaphor here, but honestly every time I open it now the blinding light scares the crap out of me, so I'm not sure it's a pleasant metaphor.

here are some excellent Sam Wilson/Captain America icons by [personal profile] peaked

here are some hilarious Pam & Tommy icons from the Hulu show that drops tomorrow! by [personal profile] myrmidon

here are some awesome Jason Todd icons [personal profile] nowhere made for a 10th anniversary request

The already cancelled classes on Wed/Thurs and I think it's only a matter of time before they close campus, so I already decided to forgo the extra money (though I have my fingers crossed they'll cancel Friday too) for a three day weekend. I got my desktop back from the fixit store, and I have reinstalled everything and am now achievement hunting on Steam and playing Dragon Age Inquisition for the umpteenth time. But it's okay. I downloaded a new hairstyle for my big qunari so it's basically a whole new game.

I guess the bulletproof exchange is not for me. )

Over at [community profile] disneyplusshows they made this amusing graphic and have an open post to prompt for any media (fic, art, playlists, etc) for any character or pairing from the show. Go drop some bunnies and you never know what'll happen!

Running From Cops looks like a great podcast that I want to listen to. Of course, American reality television being what it is, the world of policing as presented in Cops was essentially a crudely moralistic fun-house-mirror version of the real deal.
chase_acow: Supernatural Dean holding gun "Yippie kay yay motherfucker" (spn d yippie)
I'm watching Ricki and the Flash which was on my list from my Sebastian Stan days. Now I've got Bennie and the Jets stuck in my head, and listen, I am not an Elton John fan. Ug*.

[community profile] dick_or_treat is weird. So, write smut titled after Pokémon move/attack during the month of April, add it to their collection, receive gym badges. I watched the very first series because my little brother was in that age group** and Detective Pikachu is an anticipated movie because I need Ryan Reynold's*** voice in my life. However, according to the linked list, we could have: Double Iron Bash (sounds painful for Tony), Let's Snuggle Forever (Dean's newest version of hell), or Venom Drench (is there anything kink left to explore in the Venom fandom?)

[community profile] springfest prompt from the 20th to the 27th then write/post in April. I don't like having to claim something, cuz what if I suck and someone else also wanted to write it? And remembering appointments really isn't my jam right now****.

I enjoyed Captain Marvel so much more than I thought I would! It is fantastic and if Endgame ruins her the way Civil War ruined Cap for me I will mourn indefinitely*****.

Also, the first four issues of Winter Soldier 2018 by Kyle Higgins (Author), Rod Reis (Illustrator) are $1.99 each, and I loved them so much. The art is fantastic, the kitty is so white and fluffy, and Bucky is a sweetheart. [personal profile] sparklesquid has an excellent rec here with selected panels, though sadly no Tony.

*not looking forward to watching all the movies with the Rocketman trailer on them.

[community profile] fandom_stocking is open until saturday to submit your stocking for fun surprises. The hope is that when they're posted you look around the stockings and leave a gift or two. Sometime near the end the elves look around for needy stockings and try to find folks to help make sure that everyone gets something. I think it's fun. I like making some icons and trying to write a few 1000 word bits.

[personal profile] clachnaben is hosting a Magical Realism Multifandom fest. There is currently a lot of hockey recs, but I really love some of the prompts that are posted over there. (Fests are a really simple prompt and fill game usually hosted on someone's personal journal.)

[community profile] holiday_wishes is going strong. Post a 10 wish list and see what happens. I'm a little more strapped for cash and time than last year, so I've only been poking around it here and there. Hopefully I'll get the chance after this week.

This week is a visit by my mom and her boyfriend and I'm excited to have them, but I also want them to be comfortable so I've been slightly insane with the cleaning, organizing, and finally fixing up my extra bedroom. I painted it, bought a bed frame to get it off the floor, curtains/curtain rods, and new sheets. It'll look pretty good when I finish it. I just hate going to my grandma's house because it's so uncomfortable, and if I can lure mom into coming over here instead, I'll be living the good life.
chase_acow: Janeway from Voyager almost a facepalm "You're going to be the death of me" (voy death of janeway)
1. I have kisses on my profile! : ) Thank you so much [livejournal.com profile] wutendeskind and [livejournal.com profile] rainbow_connec. I obviously need to check my email more often.

2. I'm rewatching Star Trek: Voyager on Netflix. I've watched them live with my parents, but it's been a while since I've seen an ep. I used to think Tom Paris was so dreamy and now he's totally my anti-type. That whole fluffy, blond, stuck in sulky teenagedom isn't my thing anymore. However, The Doctor is still awesome. The uniforms are still very unflattering.

It's going down my slash memory lane too. Chakotay/Paris was some of the first slash stories I read after BtVS. I remember that their quality was rather suspect.

3. For the music fiends:

mixtape exchange

I think I'm going to go with -> A. Teen Wolf Derek/Stiles B. Halloween in August and C. Saving Grace

4. I've been slightly afraid of [livejournal.com profile] rounds_of_kink but I think I finally have a handle on it, and I want to play this round. In case y'all want to play, the info post is here but you'll probably need to read through all the newbie and guidelines posts to. Prompting is over on the 15th, claiming starts the 16th, and posting starts Aug 1st.
chase_acow: cartoon cat Garfield looking cool incognito (pers color cowboy)
1. My attempts to write this week have been incredibly sidetracked due to my roommate getting a new puppy. This is Shipley (yes, he's named after Jordan Shipley the football player) and he is a seven week old German Shepherd purebred.

I imagine that the stress in my life is about to increase a thousand-million times. It's awkward being home with Ship more than she is while trying not to over bond with a puppy who isn't mine. Plus, she's all over the place about training him.

2. [livejournal.com profile] rhea314 recorded a podfic of Sarcasm. It's just one of the services Priestly offers! You can find the post for the mp3 here at [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon. I don't know much about podfic, but this sounds amazing. Check it out and enjoy. : )

3. Also, as I continue working on my writing and hunting that elusive ability to create interesting and entertaining commercial fiction, I'm also keeping a separate journal that's less about porn and more about me/writing/entertainment. It's here -> [livejournal.com profile] renae_love.

I've got a review of the book The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan ([livejournal.com profile] sarahtales) over here. It's an excellent book that's about brothers and demons. It's twisty and I enjoyed it a lot.

And here is a write up of my experience at this year's Conestoga along with the best bit of (common sense) advice I heard when it comes to writing and knowing where to start writing.

4. I have a twitter. I don't abuse it, but I post random things that don't seem to be blog-worthy.

It's kinda bare and empty, mostly because I've forgotten how to make friends that aren't fandom dependent. *is a loser*
chase_acow: cartoon cat Garfield looking cool incognito (spn D splash)
The SPN anon meme: while I don't like making anyone feel bad about themselves, there is some amusing stuff over there. The obvious trolls are annoying, unnecessary, and awful, but I can understand just wanting to get some stuff off your chest. Watch out for page 21 and I think there are spoilers on pages 20-23 or so.

Also, I think it lead to the creation of spnkink_meme community. It's like blindfold_spn but it's supposed to be ongoing. anon or not anon, just a place for some kink. SPN or RPS : )

Go check out Supernatural on www.cracked.com because the female character flow chart is hilarious.
chase_acow: cartoon cat Garfield looking cool incognito (iron landed)
My predicted death this past weekend turned out to be around two inches of snow accumulation on the grass. I'm a little disappointed though I feel real bad for the people who actually did get slammed by this storm. There are/were a lot without power.

Boy and Girl Wonders: Robin in Cultural Context by Mary Borsellino

You can read about it here or go straight to the ordering here. Apparently proceeds will be going to charities that help children in crises. I'd be interested in what it goes into, so let me know if anyone buys it and enjoys it. : )

[livejournal.com profile] digitalwave has the best post here that I agree with 100% about SPN S4, Sam, and Dean.

Dreamwidth journals! Dreamwidth Studios will open to the public on the evening of April 30, 2009. At that time, you can create an account with an invite code from an existing user, or purchase a paid account. We will announce our exact opening time soon.

I'm excited about this! I'd much rather buy a paid account over there than here on LJ. Want to know why? Well, [livejournal.com profile] telesilla says it all right here. I won't abandon my LJ but I really hope fandom takes off over there. : )

[livejournal.com profile] anniehow wrote Rule #7, Always Be Specific When You Lie which is an SPN/NCIS crossover with Dean and Castiel. I don't know NCIS so they were just a bunch of suits to me but the Dean and Castiel exchanges are awesome. I was entertained. : )

Name ten of life's simple pleasures that you like most, then tag five people to do the same. Try to be original and creative and not to use things that someone else has already used.

Walking barefoot on green grass.
The cold spot at the bottom of the sheets.
A breeze that lifts my hair.
When the sun reflects just right and lights my eyes.
Warm socks fresh out of the dryer.
Colored bottles in the windowsill.
Wind chimes.
The smell of cut grass.
Turning on the radio just in time to hear an awesome song.
Strawberries and sugar.

[livejournal.com profile] fryadvocate posted an embedded youtube clip about How to tell people they sound racist that provoked a thought or two. Not that we have any racists here in Okie Land. Oh, no. <- That was my sarcastic voice.

Custom Cock-ery. Wow. Just wow. Actually, they could actually make a Padacock or two for the SPN fangirls. : ) I'm not sure how we'd distinguish it. Any ideas?

Smells like a holiday!

So, who else is excited for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide?!? I am! It's such a really neat experience with all the craziness that goes on and all the awesome fic that goes up all at once. I have no idea what I'm going to request. I think I'll request Zorro and Willow for sure, but I'll have to think about my last two slots.

[livejournal.com profile] sg1_jubilee is thinking about another holiday exchange this year. I'm not in it anymore, but if you're interested head over fill out the poll and poke people about it. I haven't seen anyone pimp it and I know the SG-1 fandom can do better than nine participants.

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeak -

I was nearly trampled by a murder (yes, I said murder and I stand by it) of tots on trikes. I know there's nothing inherently frightening about tricycles, but I flash back to that creepy little dummy from Saw and I'm gone. There were about six of the little monsters salivating at the chance to rend me limb from limb. Good thing there was a chainlink fence holding them back.

And, some links -
Why Strong Female Characters Are Bad For Women

I think the major problem here is that women were clambering for "strong female characters," and male writers misunderstood. They thought the feminists meant [Strong Female] Characters. The feminists meant [Strong Characters], Female.

It's the first week of class and I should not be so stressed.

~ Oh my God the reading! I should buy stock in eye drops!
~ Oh my God the papers! Imma have to kill a tree with all the papers I have to write.
~ Oh my God the money! Loans barely cover rent, not food/phone/other. I can only substitute Tu/Thur and even then there's a two month wait for a paycheck.

But you know what we're gonna do? We're going to fight. Like men. In tights. I love you. *hugs*

. . .

Annnnnnnnnnnnd, I'm back.

Bummer about SGA. I only realized reading other peoples' links that they hated S4. I thought that was the strongest season since S1. I don't even remember S3 at all. I am skeptical about the movie, especially written by JoeM. I bet David Hewlett is just going to go crazy with new projects, and that's kinda exciting.

Link soup:

[livejournal.com profile] spn_summerlove started posting two stories a day. Head over and get your het on.
[livejournal.com profile] sg_flyboys a John/Cameron thingathon is gearing up for round 2.

+ All right, I ended up with a Last.fm account over here at chase_acow. So if you want to see the weird stuff I listen too head over and give it a gander. I'm also tagging things based on the stargate character playlist I sort them into if that's of interest. I just got started though, feel free to friend.

~ Okay, so my family just decided who had to go to the grocery store for dinner tonight based on who had bathed most recently (my mum). Can anyone tell me that this isn't the most stupid thing you've ever hear, cuz I laughed my head off for a good two minutes.

+ Don't forget about all the fun going on over at [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match. Go vote for the stories (and vote well for Team Romance!) There's a mod post up now encouraging people who didn't participate (or those who did) to pick a prompt and write for it to be posted after the official fun but before the official winner.

~ I have a SPN icon from [livejournal.com profile] the_dean_show because they are adorable and I think if I ever finally watch an episode, all my love will belong to Dean.

++ I finally picked up my diploma. Mmmm shiny!

-------------- No job and no house.

~ I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] stock_100 with the claim of roads. I'm not sure why I did this thing, but I did. Good luck to me.
