I had to flee to night shift to get away from two of the most annoying trainees we've ever had. I hate night shift, but it was a necessary evil to de-stress and let some anger go. The annoying thing is that my trainee was a good guy, just incapable of memorizing, repeating, or doing two things interchangeably. Things that are definitely a requirement for this job. He wants to be a cop and I am crossing my fingers he doesn't ask me for a recommendation and that no one is stupid enough to hire him for that.

So during my summer nights of eternal nothing, I am rewatching Supernatural. ( And wow did I forget how uncomfortable it is )

I guess I am now a Phillies fan? I apologize to all the other baseball fans - I know what I have chosen. I watched all their post seasons games last fall, then I took my parents to St. Louis so they could watch the Cards while I watched Realmuto in early April. Unfortunately (for me) we went to the one game my team lost that series. Since then I subscribed to the single team MLB.TV stream and have watched every game. At first it was so I could have 3 hrs every evening where I could mostly forget about my trainee being The Worst and now I'm on night shift, why not get paid to watch the game? They are a bunch of weirdos and they delight me.

I started feeding a new stray cat, she's a Tortie with at an attitude so I named her Phillie. I thought she was pregnant, but then she brought her three kittens to hang out on my porch under the carport. She let me pet her and talked to me in these cute little trills, but the kittens were totally wild and took off into a pretty gnarly thunderstorm rather than let me get anywhere close. So I borrowed some traps, but was cautious because I didn't want to lose them.

( this is a roller coaster of cat well being that I don't know how it ends yet. )

So here we go, I've now binged the first seven seasons of Supernatural. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, but I practically have these early seasons still memorized. It's only starting at S9, I think that I've only watched the episode once, if that.

Biggest surprise - how much I can't stand Dean. I talk about it more under the cut, but I remember loving him, and never really taking exception to how he decided to handle a situation. I've changed quite a bit since my first love affair with this series.

( A mixed bag of pluses and minuses about what I liked and didn't like this time around. Which will probably be my last time rewatching the whole series. )

One of the things I do when I have a spare ten minutes and the inclination is a project to go back through my journal and check on tags, adding/deleting to make it a little more cohesive and easy to search. I'm entering my SPN phase now, and I'm having all the nostalgia especially with the announcement that next year is their last year.

On April 23, 2008, my wishlist for the future of SPN was:
First, I really want to see a continuation/ending for Mary’s storyline. Unless I blinked and missed something, the last we heard all of Mary Winchester’s friends/family/acquaintances/passer-bys had been ruthlessly killed off. Sure, Sam’s kinda busy trying to save his brother Dean, but what if there’s some kind of connection? If she knew the YED, then maybe there’s some kind of bargaining power there. I’m just incredibly curious about the entire Winchester mythology. I thought they took the easy way out, letting the demon blood Sam consumed go by the wayside.

I want to know why Bela and Ruby are important. I’m not actually fans of theirs, but even if TPTB killed them off tomorrow, I’d be pissed because they wasted so much time. Basically, I want them to be some kind of sympathetic, the best villains are able to be empathetic on some level. I still don’t get their motivations, I don’t want the Bela and Ruby Show, but they’ve gone so far, they might as well finish it out.

I’d like to see more urban legends. I know it’s getting hard to find those sweeping legends that everybody knows about but they’re still out there. We haven’t had men in black, cults, or anything end-of-the-worldy. I like long arcs or character arcs, but I’d like if they could get back to saving people and hunting things.

As long as I’m wishing on stars, I‘ll go ahead and send good thoughts for time travel, a longish term undercover hunt, and a good hippy witch.

So I ended up getting many of my wishes! Though I'll always regret how far away they got from urban legends, building their own gear, and doing more footwork when they got places. Bela definitely got shortchanged by the writer's strike season, but I got more Ruby than I ever wanted. And Mary, I never would have expected Mary to show back up. Never got a good hippy witch, witches man, gross. Of course, at the time, I never could have imagined it going fifteen seasons. Possibly I would have dreamed a little bigger.

I know I've watched the episode through Jack and a fast food place? I had definitely lost the plot by then though. I think I even only watched the season where Dean gets the Mark once, so I start getting real fuzzy there. Reading the old entries about the first three seasons are making me real nostalgic though, even though I won't watch the new seasons until it's all over and done with. I want to know how it ends so I don't depress myself more hoping for something that isn't going to happen.

So, I've been in and out, more out lately, and I'm not referring to my sexual orientation. (Though apparently I'm going to have to find a different orientation now that Jensen is officially off the market.) I'm so behind on my classwork, but I'm going to try to be around more. I've kept up with my flist a bit, and left a comment here and there, but hopefully I'll be better now. I know there's some new people around. *waves*

So, here. Have some stuff.


Supernatural: I'm really enjoying this season. Changing Channels shot straight up on my list of favorite episodes. My only complaint is that I wish they'd get back to the apocalypse soon. I think that Jensen and Jared are doing a superb job with Sam and Dean, and the episodes look pretty and the music/scores have been really good. I've been staying away from any wank so I've been pretty stress free SPN-wise. It's been nice. : )


Football: Texas totally handed our ass to us on Halloween, but we bounced back pretty well last week. I think we could win out, and I'd love to see it. Playing Texas Tech this week will be the hardest. Colorado isn't a threat next week, and ou has so many people on the injured list now. I think we've currently got more talent, chemistry, and drive than they do. Here's hoping at least.

Texas is still on track to play for the Championship! : ) I'm still loving those boys! I've watched this clip of Jordan Shipley so many times. Hook 'em!




Yuletide: I finished my letter and put it here. I ended up requesting RPF- College Football (McCoy/Shipley), Saving Grace (any), The Men Who Stare at Goats (any), and Rio Bravo (any) if any of you are interested. There's still time to join for yourself until Thursday 9pm USA central time. Or you could stalk the Dear Yuletide letters here or wait until Yuletide Madness to just write something for someone else without signing up yourself. Remember that it's a rare fandom fest, and if you have any questions I'll try to answer them.


Big Bangs: I think that I'm a one hit wonder. Which, you know, I really can't (and won't) complain about because I did write something that I enjoyed and made me better as a writer. I'm glad people seem to enjoy what I write. This year's big bangs didn't quite go over as well as Only After Disaster can we be Resurrected. They were still interesting experiences for me and I like both stories, but I don't guess that they're as assessable maybe? I don't know, I'm just kinda thinking out loud. Feel free to ignore or chime in, y'all should know by now that I don't get offended by much around here.

Last Stand at Goblin Valley -> Sam/Dean in season four is a hard sell what with Sam lying like crazy and Dean having crappy year. It contains a bit of flashback Dean/OMC before the reestablishment of Sam/Dean between Monster and Shark. Anyway, I can see how people wouldn't want to read it knowing how S4 ended despite the relative lack of angst in the story and the happy (for now) ending.

Kingdom Hearts: A Love Story -> It's a Jensen/Jared fusion with the video game Kingdom Hearts so I imagine that would put people off. Really, you don't need to know anything about KH to enjoy the action/adventure and true love aspects of the story. I loved writing this one, Jared was adorable and I had a lot of fun writing Robin Hood, Pocahontas, and Esmeralda. Them's the breaks I guess.

I need to stop watching commercials. I wake up with the most cracked out fic ideas in the morning.

1. I think it's a weightwatchers commercial where this fuzzy orange monster muppet is the woman's hunger and it's on a rampage. So I really want a Dean vs his Hunger fic where they end up as buddies at the end much to Sam's dismay. You know it probably sheds like crazy.

2. This commercial, a guy knocks on the door to take the woman for a date and he has a "mini-me" at his side that turns out to be his "fun". Now I really want a Jensen/Jared fic where at first they're just friends, but their mini-me-funs start fucking like bunnies until they can't take it anymore, sleep together, and realize they're meant for each other.

I really enjoyed 5.01! There were a couple of times that I went 0_o but I think it might be my second favorite season opener behind In My Time Of Dying. : )
