chase_acow: close up of morrigan from dragon age (da morrigan)
I'm not a big fan Will Ferrell movies or when he's doing a bit. I loved Stranger Than Fiction where he is a boringly routine IRS agent who one day starts to hear someone narrate his life and then predict his death. He falls in love with a baker, and then it gets super meta with the author trying to get over writer's block and also save the character's life.

I do, for no good reason I can recall, think he's just a good dude. So when I heard he and his friend were doing a documentary about a road trip and discussing his friend's transition to living as a woman, I was interested enough to check out the trailer. I think it looks good and is definitely going to make me cry both funny and heartfelt tears. (also everything makes me cry now - what are these getting older hormones?!?)

I got into a funk after my last post. There's a small chance I didn't know I didn't mean that I like walking without a dog. It's so weird to not have a dog. IDK. So, I've just been longing for the cool front this weekend - after working to get used to sweat, the football game is going to start at 71 degrees and now I'm worried my dad will need a jacket.

I put in my time off request for Nov 5th-7th. I figure we'll either know who won the election by then, or everyone will be tired of talking about it. Either way, I'll have the new Dragon Age game to entertain me. I hope it's good. I can't even replay Mass Effect: Andromeda anymore, it such a waste of time in a wide but shallow quest log.

However, I did get obsessed with Match Factory you match three like things to clear the board. You don't have to watch any adds, there are pretty colors, and it's both relaxing/mindless fun and a little difficult enough to engage a bit of strategy. I'm on level 1,400 or something.

We've been playing Disney Villainous at work the last couple of days (it's a holiday weekend and all the kids went home) and it is so FUN! You play as one of the villains - Maleficent, Ursula, Jafar, Prince John, Queen of Hearts, Captain Hook, each of which has their own pieces, board and objectives. It's so re-playable because picking a different villain often changes your play style. The game is really pretty, the art is interesting, and the mechanics are easy to understand. Plus, it's just so fun to be bad. I played as Hook the last time, and the other two kept fucking with me until I finally yelled Just let me kill this prepubescent boy already! then I finally won and it was so satisfying.

a quick how to play video )
There are two available expansion packs and another on the way. I'm going to but the one with Ratigan, Yzma, and Scar and I'm excited. Playing Yzma is apparently fun and quirky because Kronk can be turned good and cause all sorts of havoc.

actual work nonsense )

Dolittle is apparently so bad, but not the fun kind of bad. It has a metacritic score of 27 In comparison, Cats has a meta score of 32! Critics wonder if Downey sabotaged the movie on purpose by being terrible and this guy is asking if Downey is actually any good at acting

After reading the review mentioning the excess of fart jokes, I think I'll give it a pass.

When I was glancing through the yuletide tagset, I was reminded this was a thing:

It's like a nightmare come to animation. *shudders*

There are a bunch of movie/tv show options I'll be watching. I think part of my problem was I used to think yuletide fandoms needed to be special and atmospheric and idk highbrow or something. They don't. It just needs to be fun.

Gemini Man was fun, very watchable movie even if the action scenes were the worst. I really liked Will Smith here at every age.

Maleficent not so much fun. Very pretty movie, most of it was a downer. The did all the wings beautifully though.

Going to a baby shower at work. These things should be outlawed. So awkward. This one has a baked potato bar saving grace. Imma eat so much cake.

I have an appointment for tattoo #4 on Nov 5th. And I am so excited. It's going on my shoulder instead of my leg. My Sam Wilson Captain America shield/wings combo. So Falcon and the Winter Soldier better not be disappointing!

I don't think any of you are into Dragon Age, but I still love this franchise. John Epler on twitter started talking about some memories from working on DA2 and DAI and it got picked up by polygon here - including a few bits about the Iron Bull romance scene. Yeah, that one.

Here is the scene in question: )

I know I did it once in a play through, but just as a fling. I can't get over how weird he looks and how his size fluctuates through game play and cut scenes. He would have been a terrible choice for my tries-too-hard qunari Gray who just wants someone a little safer and a little softer. Bull was a good bro once upon a time, but now he's nothing but a liar and a spy. Don't get me started on Trespasser. I will never forget and I will never forgive.

Everything we know about Dragon Age 4 as of seven days ago.

As a gross aside, I'd forgotten that Alexis Kennedy was working on this. That's a bummer.

In happier news David Gaider (previous Dragon Age writer) announced their new project hopefully headed our way late 2021: In Chorus, musical theater finally comes to gaming!

This game looks like fun! And Troy Baker is involved! And I wish I had money to throw at them now!

All of my gross conflicted feelings and also my dislike of Scarlett Johansson. )

And here's the first tidbit of hope for a new Dragon Age game! That is a beautiful red lyrium idol, though #thedreadwolfcanbitehisowntail. If I get my hands on Solas, that is one dead egg. Hopefully they learned their lesson from Mass Effect Andromeda, that game was stupidly big while still being incredibly shallow with wildly inferior antagonists. I just want a good, deep lore game that's like 30-40 hours doing 100% completion. Take a look at this year's game of the year God Of War, you can finish it in about 25 hours, but doing those sidequests and challenges add double the time but didn't feel repetitive or tacked on.

I still haven't finished the new Tomb Raider or Spider-Man games, because they got stretched out so much. My attention span is apparently still shrinking.

Indeed

Poking around the internet trying to entertain myself at 0500 hours at work the other day, I found myself on IMDB. Eventually after a round-about click, click, click - I was on Christopher Judges' page, of Stargate SG-1 Teal'c fame . . . AND he is the new voice of Kratos for the upcoming God of War game!

I loved this series so much. I remember my roommate bought one of them for me because it came out right before spring break, she was going to be gone, and thus I had all week to slum it up in the living room, drinking Mt. Dew, eating funyuns, and murdering my way through the Greek Pantheon. I love Chris' voice and I think he's going to be great.

I know that there's a lot of shady stuff going on with voice actors and their business. Voice actors make games for me these days, and I really enjoy learning about how they do what they do. They should be taken care of and treated just as importantly as any other creator. Troy Baker is one of my absolute favorites. His work as Booker in Bioshock Infinite sealed my love. Apparently, they made this particular recast because they changed the way the motion captured and needed the actual actor to do it all at once. Chris is more Kratos sized than the previous actor and more used to using his body. I liked this article here.

So, share your favorite games, please, and I'll see what I can score for 80% off. Thanks!

I'm playing through The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age finally after having stared at it in my little brother's room for the past year. It's amusing, I really like listening to the music that goes along with it. I suppose I could finally get around to buying the other soundtracks for the movies now.

Also, Cameron finally decided to clue me into his Southern Baptist upbringing, (I know, I'm a bit slow on the uptake sometimes) unleashing a torrent of issues and nuances for current and future fics. Fear me.

Today is my first day off in over a week. Boy it's been nice not to have to worry about getting dressed and leaving my house. My roommate has been watching the Atlantis marathon on sci-fi, but they're all eps that I've seen already so I've been reading/writing/playing games on the other side of the living room. Two TVs, laptops and ceiling fans are very good things.

I'm still working on the ficlette requests from the first of this month. They'll come out eventually, I swear!

New icon, I giggled for several minutes straight [no pun intended].
