chase_acow: the elf from the Rudolph cartoon reading a book titled "PORN" (winter porn)

The holidays don't really mean much except it's a chance to double my paycheck. My family never really fostered the traditions that bring up the nostalgia and regret to miss them. I remember a bunch of meaningless presents and my grandad always making someone cry. I remember being really uncomfortable and bored with the adults.

I like Santa. I love putting up tinsel and lights. I hate cooking/baking/stirring, but I definitely enjoy eating the chex mix, cheese ball, and whatever else I end up not ruining with my sad culinary skills. My savory apple hand pies did not work out this year.

my view for the week )

I hope y'all have a lovely rest of the year!

All right, the kitten has a home with me. Her name is Bear because of the stubby tail and how she growls when she eats.

I love all the animals equally, but some are more equal than others )

My team laid the worst goose egg today. The fan base is completely melting down on twitter and the message boards, and I am enjoying it! Posers. Back in MY day we counted first downs as a win and didn't expect to go anywhere in December, and we still loved our loser team. . . Some of that was true.

Spotify’s Gimlet studios released its latest podcast today — Case 63. An English language adaptation of creator Julio Rojas’ Caso 63, this 10-episode audio drama follows a New York psychiatrist (Julianne Moore) who begins treating a patient (Oscar Isaac) that claims to be from the year 2062. Following a format that presents itself as recorded therapy sessions, listeners are taken along for the ride as the story quickly evolves into something that threatens the boundaries of the possible and the real.

10 episodes of 10-15mins each. I'm halfway through but I'm really enjoying it. Both actors do an amazing job. It's pretty heavy into world ending pandemics, so make sure that won't make you feel worse about real life.

So after I rehomed 13 - to be an only cat in a nice new house, Gray, my last adult female cat was . . . fine. I worried that she'd pine or try to search for 13 because she always acted concerned when 13 got locked in another room and freaked out or wouldn't come in from outside by herself. (When the roles were reversed 13 never showed any emotion over Gray.) But Gray just kept on keeping on, but I felt bad that she was by herself so much and also I wanted another kitten with the hopes to see them play and be cute like the internet cats.

A typical adult cat is less than pleased with interlopers and often take a couple of weeks to warm up to a new kitten. Gray took 3 days to start playing with him and tolerating some irritating kitten behaviors! I waited until I could get a male kitten raised in a house by multiple people and used to other cats and dogs, so I definitely tried to hedge my bet there. I'm really hoping they'll be pals.

so without further ado, let me introduce Mackie )

It blows my mind that I, a reasonably responsible adult, is allowed to bring this supremely dumb little baby into my home. He got so excited about a piece of bacon last night. Not eating it. No, that would make too much sense. He played with and batted that little piece of bacon around for twenty mins before he left it for the dog.

one more on the cloudier next day )

a. I spent Fri/Sat nights at a cabin at Foss State Park and had a good time. The lake was real low, and sadly I did not have a good view from the cabin, but there was a great rooster across the street that crowed at any and every time of the day.
b. It was really for my little brother's wedding in a tiny town about 20 mins away. The wedding was cute and everyone in our stupid family behaved. They've got three kids altogether and they did a great job blending their families and getting all the kids involved.
c. I also spent three hours watching my football team choke away a conference championship in a game that came down to the last second and about ten inches. (We wouldn't have been in a nail biter if it hadn't been for the FOUR F-ING INTERCEPTIONS and TERRIBLE PLAY CALLING IN BACK-TO-BACK RED ZONE POSSESSIONS!!!) I'm fine.

2. I'm doing episode reaction posts over at [community profile] disneyplusshows for the Hawkeye series. I'm really enjoying Kate, a disaster, Lucky, he eats pizza, and the soundtrack, holiday music!
episode 3, episode 2, and episode 1
2a. Friendly reminder that if someone is ruining a community or your network page, there is a CSS code you can use to block their posts and comments so that you don't have to see their crappy commentary. Here's the tumblr post explaining, but if you need any help, let me know!

3. I finally posted my Professional Wrestling AU Sam/Bucky fic for [community profile] marvel_bang! I'm so glad to get it out of my wip folder cuz I had a lot of fun with it, but I also wanted to strangle it at several points.

The art is HERE and it is really cute! Please head over there and look at Sam's awesome jacket, and Bucky's yoga pants and how soft they are playing footsie under the table. Also, a kitten!!!!

All American Face (14632 words) by chase_acow
Fandom: Captain America (Movies)
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Sam Wilson
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe, Professional Wrestling - Freeform, the briefest mentions of pain medication addiction, the briefest mentions of racism and homophobia, ridiculous wrestling soap opera style storylines, Sam's real life is kinda ridiculous too though
Summary:

After Steve is screwed out of the championship by Rumlow and the surprise return of Bucky Barnes now playing a brainwashed goon called the Winter Soldier, Sam has to deal with his real life crush on Bucky and competing professional storylines for the camera.

When he outs them on national television during a tag-team match after Bucky gets hurt, the reaction from the world is actually positive. Sam has to decide what he really wants for a life after wrestling, but not before he wipes that stupid smirk off Rumlow's face and gets his own chance at the title.

First, and most importantly, I have a job interview on Monday with Career Services and the way he described the job really sounds like something I could do and something I would enjoy! Oh man, cross your fingers for me. Long time listeners know well how much I hate my current bosses and am tired of the job.

I accidentally left the cat outside for over six hours yesterday. I let her out with the dogs, then forgot when I doordashed, and I'm sure the strange car and person scared her off. She came back inside with stinky, hard mud caked in her paws and between her toes. It must have been super uncomfortable, but when I ran the tiniest bit of water in the sink to stick her paws in, it was like death had come for her. So much caterwauling!

proof of life and clean paws! )

Squicks - What are some things that squick you in fandom - not necessarily "icky", though it can be. From anything involving blood, to bad grammar.

only if you're interested in me bemoaning the state of DNW lists these days )

But personally, for Sam/Bucky a couple of things -

I don't like Bucky choosing to go by James all the time from everybody. I just can't take the character without that very specific nickname.  It was odd hearing Zemo call him 'James' but it made sense when someone points out how condescending it is for Walker to immediately start calling him Bucky like they were friends.

I can't stand it if Sam is cruel to someone, especially if it's all in a supposed jokey manner. That author shouldn't ever get the privilege of writing down Sam's name again. I think this has become a lot less prevalent as time moved on, but after CA:CW there was . . . a problem.

I packed up on Sunday and in order to ignore some Bad Things(tm) I don't want to go into here, I went to the movie theater for the first time since Tenet to see, of all things . . . Jeffrey Dean Morgan phone in it as a disgraced journalist who unleashes something and then wants to cash in on the miracle maker until oops he grows a conscience. I was very amused by surprise Cary Elwes with a truly horrifying accent, put the monster to shame really. It was still fun to be back in there with like two other people and munching popcorn in my heated recliner.

Got up early on Monday and drove down to Hugo. It's so nice to have a vehicle with air-conditioning and the music I want to listen to coming through the speakers. No trouble, lot of it was pretty. They have real pine trees down there, the kind with the funny looking bare trunks that grow straight up for twenty feet before they start with the branches. I like to visit tall trees to remember they exist. I am however also happy to come home where I can see any invaders on the horizon.

The cabin I stayed in (because there was the chance of bad weather Tuesday) was a nice little two room number. One room had a window unit (it felt like cheating then I said who cares I'm on vacation and turned it on the second night), bed, fireplace, a table and three chairs. It led to a screened in porch which was awesome to have for Pepper to stay in. She was not fond of lounging in the great outdoors. I still constantly thought about monsters in the mist and aliens so solid walls vs a tent didn't really keep the paranoia at bay.

I read, I made good fires, I ate good hotdogs. I'm really glad I went.

I got back yesterday and have been taking it easy before I go to work tomorrow. The cat is loathe to let me out of her sight.

1. I took the holiday tree down! \0/ - unfortunately I'm not about to wade out into the bog that is my backyard to put it in the shed yet, so giant box in the living room!*

2. I took a picture of me in my new glasses to show my mom and it's a very adequate picture so I shall also leave it here for posterity: me! )

3. Re-listening to the Magnus Archives has finally achieved nightmares. Last night it was worms and before that a house that wasn't which had eaten my dad. I think I'll start restricting my listening to early afternoon.

4. I'm trying to lighten the load on my bookshelves, and I thought I'd see if any of you were interested.

EDIT: everything is on ebay now if anyone is interested cheap and willing to go cheaper!

5. I wrote a tiny daemons au Cable/Deadpool for the iron triangle flash exchange. The idea is that you only match on freeforms and fandom is up to you. It was scary, but I think it's a good enough little bit of domestic fluff.

chase_acow: (sg1 team awesome)
My cats are slightly defective. I picked them both up at animal welfare, but while one (Gray) was a well adjusted kitten from a house litter, the other (13) was a little feral picked up by herself and way too young from a business parking lot where she'd taken a smack to the face that left her just the slightest bit crooked. AND TOGETHER THEY FIGHT CRIME! Together, after three years, 13 still keeps her distance barely playing with, grooming, or sleeping by Gray. She sleeps with me no problems, but I haven't really got her interested in play either. I feel bad for Gray, but I do what I can and she and the dog mostly get along.

Here they are before I decided on picture time torture.

chase_acow: River from Doctor Who in the desert with her thigh holster (who river)
So on thanksgiving, shift and I rescued a red tail hawk. Actually, one officer left it for dead, another had a report that it was alive, and I insisted someone go poke it with a stick so we could be sure about Schrodinger's hawk, because those are two very different phone calls. It just happened to be in a spot I could watch by cameras, so we spent forty minutes trying to figure out how to get the bird in the car to take to the vet. Vet med shows up and twenty seconds later without any protective gear, swoop in, net the hawk, and stuff it in a cat carrier.

I still like to take some of the credit.

But this week, they invited us out to watch it being released, and I sucked up to the boss until he agreed to cover for me so I could go. And wow, she was big and beautiful, and not even fully grown. The officer who initially poked her at my bequest got to name her, and he picked Lucy after his favorite Pevensie.

It's nice to see something through. She's just a little bird, we have a million of them, but y'know. . . I did that. It helped.

napping becomes a complicated affair when it involves a 90lb dog, one cat who just wants to nonconsensually cuddle him and another cat who wants to rip his face off if he looks at her wrong.

but we managed.
