chase_acow: Curly a cowboy from the musical Oklahoma (cowboy curly)
I love a good horror western, and the trailer for Prey looks excellent, the main character looks like a badass woman. I don't really care much about the Predator franchise, but I will absolutely give this a shot. The film features a cast comprised almost entirely of Native and First Nation’s talent, and will apparently be available to watch in the Comanche language.

I enjoyed the back seat cow roping instructions in this video about a run-away cow headed for the interstate.

Anthony Mackie gave the commencement speech at No matter what field your degree is, you are an artist. You are a creator of thought and movements. You are the voice, eyes and ears of a generation. You will effect change," he said. "You now have the credentials to dictate your path, not for it to be dictated to you. Your story will be full of twists and turns.

Oh, Anthony Mackie, I continue to love your jackets.

Interesting documentary on Kurt Vonnegut!

If you'd like a holiday card, there's still time! See this post

The office holiday party is tomorrow, and I just want it to be done. I am never planning any office anything again. People are ridiculous. I say, bring appetizers, they waste 30 mins of party making pancakes. I say bring sides and deserts, they want to bring appetizers and waste 30 mins air frying chicken nuggets for 10+ people when I've already said I'm bringing a roast and bacon wrapped chicken legs.

Yesterday city dispatch gave out a bolo for a missing mountain lion wearing a pink collar, answers to Kitty, is declawed, and will jump in anyone's open vehicle with enough of an invitation. So first, immediate anger at some ninny who decided to keep a wild animal as pet, brought it into town AND THEN LOST IT. Then secondary anger, ANYONE WHO VOLUNTARILY DECLAWS CATS NEEDS TO BE KICKED IN THE GROIN! And finally, aw kitty, I want the big kitty!

There are a couple of sanctuaries out in county, so I suppose it's feasible this cat is living the best life it could. But I also don't know anything about them, and while I have to believe they couldn't be as bad as Tiger King, there's a great big sliding scale of appropriate animal enclosures and treatment.

Check out some Sam Wilson. Some of the foreign cartoons have some spiffy uniforms.

Anthony Mackie will be leading a live action series based on the Twisted Metal games. I've never played them, and even though there's not a lot of evidence supporting the idea that video game adaptions can be good, let me keep my hope for a little bit, okay?

Anthony Mackie to play a "smart-ass milkman" in the live-action Twisted Metal show
The series is a half-hour comedy being developed by some of the writers of Deadpool

“We’ve been big fans of Anthony’s phenomenal body of work over the years and knew he was the only actor who could play a character as complex, funny and compelling as John Doe. Fortunately for us, he agreed.” - I love seeing people fawn over Mackie's work!

Listen, I've never said Anthony Mackie chooses great projects . . .

but wow were Synchronic and Woman in the Window bad movies! He's fine, he acts, there are good moments, but how in the world did these movies ever get made? )

I also watched Black Widow last night because enough people said good things about Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova and let me tell you SHE IS AMAZING! I'm looking forward to her next appearances in the MCU+ shows.

Listen, I'm not great at not clicking on reviews clearly labeled as negative of things I love, so I don't expect you'll scroll by either (and if you do, kudos to your willpower!). Here's my bias: I dislike Scarlett Johansson a lot. I got shallow reasons, I think she's a bad actress, and I'm not that impressed with her personally based on things she's said and done. I hate her. I wanted to hate the movie, and I found it pretty easy to hate it.

Natasha Romanoff deserved better. )

One of my favorite posts about the recent Mackie smear campaign simply says:
an exploitation of homosexuality is taking a black mans words out of context to frame him as a homophobe, so that you can use homophobia as a tool in your racist hate campaign against said black man

So anyway, here's some stuff I like about Anthony Mackie:

Did you know he got involved in voter registration and COVID testing last year? He made a very fuzzy and emotional appearance on Jimmy Fallon about his kids and policing issues and voting. It's one of my favorite interviews to watch. He's not ashamed of a few tears when he's talking about something important.

Though this is my favorite video: BANG, BANG!

Black Excellence? Sure, there are some pics. How about this photo of Mackie, Boyega, Cheadle, and Boseman? Or this one with two happy dudes? Jackson, Mackie, Fishburne, Cheadle, and Boseman together? Damn. Or as Sam Jackson wrote: “Darkness for ya!!” Jackson wrote. “These Muthafukkaz [Don Cheadle}, [Chadwick Boseman], [Laurence Fishburne] & da Mackman! All in with these Bruthaz!”

He wanted to be on Sesame Street and basically became a god at his kids' schools )

These gifs featuring flowers and his crown from when he reigned as Bacchus XLVIII! (Scroll down for cringe worthy pics of past kings and then eventually start to weep at how white this list is.)

I have a [community profile] fandomgiftbox post here requesting, MCU -Sam/Bucky, Redwing, Sam/Lance Tucker (The Bronze), Rodney McKay/Ronon Dex, Rampage - Davis Okoye/Harvey Russell, 911 - Evan "Buck" Buckley/Josh Russo, and Dragon Age - Male Adaar/Dorian Pavus.

Why am I playing The Kittens Game again. Is this what nightshift has brought me to?

Anthony Mackie is hosting the ESPYS on July 10th. Now I just have to figure out how to watch it.

This seems like it would be of interest to some of y'all. I haven't listened to any yet, but I intend to. Historical Fiction Podcast ‘Edith!’ Stars Rosamund Pike as Former First Lady

chase_acow: Sam Wilson from Captain America happy and flying (cap s happy)
I went to the lake this morning to swim, and I only stayed in about half an hour, but wow am I sore. These are not the muscles I was working out when I made myself elliptical and lift. I took the weekend off hoping to soak up some sun and sleep at night, but it's supposed to start raining tonight and not stop until Thursday. Alas. But, I did not get sunburnt, and I'm really enjoying the book I started!

I've been saving Solos on Amazon Prime for when I really needed it on night shift. That moment came last night, and OMG I loved Mackie's episode Tom so much. And Helen Mirren's Peg because she is amazing and the two eps are connected. I bawled so much. They are designed to make you cry but it is excellent story telling by excellent actors. It's all about family.

These two plus Morgan Freeman's Stuart are the best, and highest rated. I also thought Anne Hathoway's Leah and Uzo Aduba's Sasha (though this is the most pandemic contenty one of them all, so it might not be for everyone) were good. I hated Jenny because cringe and Nera because it's pregnancy horror.

The series ponders what it means to be human, arguing that we are connected to others through shared experiences, even in our most isolated moments.

I also finally watched this video of Oscar Isaac, Anthony Mackie, Kevin Kline, Jessica Chastain and others talking about their teacher at Juilliard, their time at school, and acting. It's fun, informative, and interesting, and Mackie is very fuzzy, Oscar's gray hair is beautiful, and Jessica asks the hard questions. They're all so smart, and they get it. They talk about the racism, elitism, and sexism they faced and is ongoing in today's culture.
chase_acow: long shot of Sam Wilson, Cap America uniform hovering over the city (fatws city angel)
Normally I don't have too much of a problem going to night shift, but this time it's been harder. Harder to stay up late and harder to sleep late. My neighbors have a new puppy who isn't a bad barker yet, but today she would not stop when I was trying to go to sleep and the folks behind me have a yappy little schnauzer who is the bane of my existence. Barking dogs are the worst. Also night shift is the worst.

I watched Night Catches Us an Anthony Mackie movie from 2010 and I liked it a lot. The romance is gorgeous, and Anthony Mackie's character is so good with the little girl. The Black Panther storyline is interesting, because the movie is set after their heyday so you see Patrice trying to continue the good fight and you see Marcus just trying to find a good life. You see the others who can't let go and how it affects the entire neighborhood. It's free to watch on Vudu/Crackle/Tubi.

I signed up for movielims over on LJ because they're doing Falcon and Winter Soldier and WandaVision. Since I finally figured out everything needs to be sharper I might have a small chance of not being the first one kicked out. )

Some interviews in which I was very amused at the two outfits. While we all know about his preoccupation with his round brown, he's giving his chest a little love in the first (chest hair, okay, y'all. we have visible chest hair!) and then he visits Trevor Noah straight from church, not a tit* in sight.

The Late Show and The Daily Show )

and here's Jack Black as Cap in another speedo with the shield. because you need to watch this happy man dance.

chase_acow: logo for the new show Falcon and Winter Soldier (fatws)
I love this logo!

I generally hate candid things, I find them cringy, but this one isn't too bad. No real information, just some emphasis put to Mackie's thighs. Which, I will happily admit are things of great beauty. The thing they cut out was the bad guy interrupting and I'm sure promising mayhem. I got excited when they added one of the writers from the John Wick to the production.

IDK what I even expect from this series. I hope that it's funny because it doesn't take itself too seriously. But on the other hand, both these guys need some epic work on their characterization. We wanna know what makes them tick (though I don't want to see what makes them go boom here, there are movies for that). So while carrying all the baggage so far from the MCU, the snap, whatever Steve did, the politics of superheroing, and etc, I also want it to not retread anything featuring the Stark legacy. I don't think we need to keep beating that dead horse.

Look, I also want them to be roommates, fight over who burned the eggs to the bottom of the pan, and walk around in nothing but a towel fresh from the shower at least once each. I'm only human.

I hope Sharon has a good plot and isn't shoehorned into some kind of love triangle, cuz I will for real barf. And I want the bad guy to have an interesting and logical plan that can't be poked full of holes by any (dis)interested sixth grader. Yeah, I do realize I'm basically asking for the impossible here. But here's hoping!

The latest thing I saw has them starting filming in October. I also will not say no to some more rpf for these two popping up as a result.

Point Blank - Netflix Pitted against rival gangs and corrupt cops, an ER nurse and a career criminal must work together to survive the fight of their lives.

PROS:
He looks real good in the purple scrubs. Several A+ shots there.
I think he's using a little more of his natural accent.

CONS:
Frank Grillo, who just . . . kinda bothers me.
I dislike everything about pregnancy/child birth. Yuck.

it's a short serviceable action/unlikely buddy flick with car chases and almost enough quirky characters to keep your attention.

I didn't do a lot to these photoshopped beauties. Want, take, have.

From here. The article is pretty good. There's a video where he has the choice between disgustingly-healthy foods or answering an 'uncomfortable' question it's entertaining enough, but all his answers are wrong. : )
chase_acow: close up of morrigan from dragon age (da morrigan)

I'm not very fond of the series. I noped out of The National Anthem and that was it until Anthony Mackie did this one. Afterward, I went to the internet to ask which episodes were the most watchable, and liked two out of their top five. Haley Atwell and Be Right Back was boring and I skipped through it. USS Callister was engaging and I really liked the twists. Nosedive featured Bryce Dallas Howard trying to social media her way to the upper echelon and I liked the ending, but it took me three hours to get through my nerves and cringes. The National Anthem I did eventually finish and felt meh about. The Entire History of You about recording everything a person sees and I actively hated it.

Let me tell you the first bit of Striking Vipers features an incredibly hot monster Mackie. I love that jacket, and that smile and how much he likes the idea of role play. I want to try iconing if I ever get my desktop back from the shop. I didn't think I used it too much but the last two weeks has been sad.

The episode also features Pom Klementieff who plays Mantis in the MCU as an avatar in the virtual reality game Striking Vipers, and she's real good though I'm not sure about the character.

There's probably more here not to like than there is to like. I think that while Danny is relatable, on the whole he made bad choices that would have hurt a lot of people. )

In case anyone else was curious about Sebastian and Anthony talking about their escape room, apparently they were joined by Bendyboop Condorbump and Letitia Wright. There are some amusing parts, but they were given way too much help. Amateurs*.

1. Miss Bala -Gloria finds a power she never knew she had when she is drawn into a dangerous world of cross-border crime. Surviving will require all of her cunning, inventiveness, and strength. Based on the Spanish-language film.

Is it going to win any awards? Probably not. Is it action adventure with a female lead who's not ridiculous? Yes. Bonus points for Anthony Mackie, though he's probably only in it for like mins.

I liked this article which pretty much hits it, I'm just easy to please: Gina Rodriguez Thriller 'Miss Bala' Tries To Have Its Cake And Eat It Too

discussions of violence and rape )

2. Happy Death Day 2U - Tree Gelbman discovers that dying over and over was surprisingly easier than the dangers that lie ahead.

The first one was objectively a good horror movie. This one was ridiculous, but still watchable. The plot is trying to explain why she got caught in the time loop in the first place, and it was a thousand 'I don't want this' from me. I still really like the character Tree, and the actress is energetic and empathetic. I like that she's the ultimate "I Got This" character.

Um, just skip the credits scene though, and then sacrifice a bucket of chicken in the hopes that no one is dumb enough to make a third one.

3. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World - When Hiccup discovers Toothless isn't the only Night Fury, he must seek "The Hidden World", a secret Dragon Utopia before a hired tyrant named Grimmel finds it first.

I really liked the first two movies, but it's been a looooooooooong time since I watched them. The group in the theater was a mix of kids, teenagers, and older type adults. The oldest group seemed to like it the best, and I didn't hear much of a peep out of the kids. The plot is heavy and sad, and about finding a female dragon and convincing her to give you the time of day. IDK, I didn't have much fun.

4. Fighting With My Family -A former wrestler and his family make a living performing at small venues around the country while his kids dream of joining World Wrestling Entertainment.

This is my winner for the month, even though it does have some super awkward parts. I was entertained, I liked the way Saraya/Paige grew up during training, and the other women vying for the Diva spot were also awesome. Some parts were just hilarious, and then the touching family parts broke it up, all crowned with glorious achievement!

Probably not something you have to see in theaters, but I think lots of people will find it entertaining.

In other wrestling news: Chris Hemsworth to play Hulk Hogan in a movie focused just on the wrestling parts of his life. Listen, I am all in for the handle bar mustache and the wrestling panties, okay?
chase_acow: Mass Effect Shepard quote "Don't fear the Reapers." (me reapers)
I loved it. I haven't gotten very far in the book, I decided not to take it on vacation with me. Those kids were really well done, writing and acting. I admit, I had no idea where the title came from, but once I found out -> awesome. That was a bad shoot. Period. The depressing thing is that I know some of the guys I work with would still get defensive and blame the kid for not following orders. I continue to wonder if I should get out while I still have that shred of ethics left. I cried then at the movie, and at the end. Starr is so good. When the dad was giving them "the talk" and it was so different than what pop culture would lead you to expect I felt so awful. I did look up the Black Panther's Ten Point Program, which I am in no way equipped to comment on, but seems totally reasonable given my extremely limited scope.

I love this movie.

Anthony Mackie as King was hot and scary and sad.

chase_acow: rocket the raccoon from guardians of the galaxy (gotg rocket)
John Boyega and Anthony Mackie did a mighty fine job! Will Poulter is such a weird dude, and it's so easy to hate him here. IDK? This is a rough one, and I know there's a lot of criticisms going around. I didn't enjoy watching it, but I think the story is important, even if the movie never becomes important.
