Stargate SG-1 & Atlantis Cast Members To Perform AI-Driven Table Read! I can only imagine what fresh hell this AI is going to unleash. Someone should slip it some fanfic too, just to liven things up.

I'm on probation again at work! \0/ I hate them so much (but in a non-present way because I have learned not to actually stress over it). I continue to hope that the next time they're out at a fancy restaurant, they choke a little and poop themselves in front of everyone.

This year has seen an increase in bad behavior on game days at the stadium. We're open to full capacity, masks are "expected" (no one wears them), this is the third year of beer sales in the stadium, our team is a very unconvincing 5-0, and we are woefully understaffed in police and stadium people. I lost count of how many people got kicked out this last Saturday. There were two assaults on officers, several minor fan-on-fan scuffles, and a very weird domestic where dad and brother ganged up on sister and her husband. IDK, like it's not hard to not be a drunk dick in public. I'm just glad I get to stay on the other side of campus in my bunker and work the issues outside the stadium.

The Emotional Craft of Fiction: How to Write the Story Beneath the Surface by Donals Maass

My friend at work finished his first draft of a novel, and I am slightly jealous. I've only ever finished the one thing a million years ago. I'm not saying it's good, but it has a beginning, middle, and engaging end, and most importantly, like I said, a finished thing. But we've been trading books back and forth, he lent me this one while he took a couple of mine.

I like Donald Maass. I met him once at a conference and he was a cool, helpful dude. I'm not finished with the book yet, but any amount is honestly useful. I tried to use a few tips in my Sam Wilson Birthday Bang and honestly I thought it helped. I might get the kindle version once I finish.

My favorite exercise was the Third-Level Emotions:
"That's how it works. Be obvious and tell readers what to feel, and they won't feel it. Light an unexpected match, though, and readers will ignite their own feelings, which may well prove to be the ones that are primary and obvious. Third-level emotions. That's the effective way of telling." p23

So in a scene, as the writer you know the obvious emotion, but what else is there? And beyond that, what's the third emotion? Tap into that, and the previous two are understood, but not spelled out. The audience knows.

Maass' other book Writing the Break out Novel and the Workbook are the best things on writing I have ever read.

I only see ohnotheydidnt whenever I'm surfing my friendsfriends list, but I ran across this post of Shrieking Violets: 25 Butt-kicking Babes. Who would y'all add to this list? When I was little, I was completely taken with Red Sonja (the movie). I thought she was the most awesome female hero ever.

A draft of extremely cold air around his privates was the only warning he received.

This was one of the earliest things I wrote on this journal. I wanted to write everyday for a week and this is what came out. I think the boys are cute, but it may suffer a bit for the "any two guys" syndrome. I didn't really get into the SW RPS like I have SPN or SGA.

So, I kinda busted on my 31 Days pledge. Friday I was distracted by 30toseoul's Flaniganesque porn. Yesterday I went to a wedding and shopped for a suit to wear to my interview in just a little over two weeks. (I imagine my freak-out will start tomorrow, there might be a count down.) Anyway, the second half of my Quest AU will commence tomorrow, but in the mean time I leave you with an intermission. Enjoy!
