chase_acow: Supernatural Sam with quote "Dude what the fuck?" (spn s wtf)
My a/c died at the house a couple of weeks ago. I am now the proud owner of a new 10k debt (to add to the new 10k car debt) and a unit that works adequately if not as well as the super old now dead unit. I am no longer looking for a new job because I can't afford the pay cut or to lose overtime and holiday pay. I am . . . fine with this.

please check out this weatherdude's mind being blown that his map is a touchscreen. Delightful smiles!

I wasn't a fan of Nope or the new Thor.

I saw Major Dad was on Netflix, and I really enjoyed it as a kid, so I thought I'd give it a chance for nostalgia, and people, it is still so good! This is the official tag: "A hard-nosed, conservative Marine impulsively proposes to the liberal reporter doing a story on him and agrees to help her raise her three daughters." But it doesn't quite get the point across. The Major is thoughtful, changes his mind based on new information, and is the best most trying dad to his three new daughters and his haphazard Lt. Holowachuk who is delightful. They talk about how helpful therapy and/or talking to someone is several times. I love this show.

Please enjoy this delightful 1989 promo! )

I am the sorest girl is sore town. But this story starts one week ago.

Some of y'all might remember a post a couple of months ago where I just needed to vent about an absent mom and heavily unequal effort in our relationship. She did finally text back, and without really opening up about her thoughts and her life, apologized and did actually invite me over at a specific time with a specific activity planned. And she did try a little harder to text and call back and forth in the meantime.

On Tuesday, I loaded up the dogs and off we went. We got idk, 9.5/10th of the way there before the car started clicking and decided it was done. Very busy highway and I am suddenly doing 30 mph - I'm imagining I got flipped off quite a bit. But there was a nice little rest pull out, and I waited for Mom and Carl to come out and drive the rest of the way with me just in case.

Long story, still kind of long - I have to replace the engine. WHY ARE ENGINES SO EXPENSIVE?!?

I still actually had a very good visit. And she tried really hard to be present and do things.

Rented a car to get back home for work because they don't expect my car to be done before Friday, and Enterprise gives me a brand new Camry with a thousand miles on it. I looked at it and immediately suspected a trap. I finally figured out the A/C, then I finally figured out the bluetooth, eventually I figure out the cruise control. This car is so much smarter than I am. It was fun to drive, but also, little terrified of messing it up.

On Sunday, I grab the car keys to go to work, and it isn't until I pull back up the driveway that I realized I forgot to grab my house keys which I had not added to the GIANT car fob.

Alas.

So I gotta break into my own house. Okay. How hard can it be? I don't lock any of the windows, and I have some tools and a ladder. I go around the backyard, because I don't really want this to be a neighborhood slapstick show, and pick the window for the utility room because there's less stuff to break in there. I pop the screen and the poorly fitting glass out, wedge my little spade under the window and leverage it up several inches. This house has a crawl space, so it's up. I say this because it's also a very old wooden window I haven't tried to open in the last three years.

the set up )

I heaved. I struggled. I worked one side, and then the other. I bent at the knees, straightened my arms out and used all my strength . . .

and I still didn't have a [personal profile] chase_acow sized opening. But I could see the cats* sitting in the doorway watching my increasingly pathetic attempts. They do not seem to care.

Both my guy-friend dispatchers are on nightshift, so I wasn't going to bother them in the middle of the afternoon. My other dude coworker is currently on duty in his black pajamas, so he's a last resort. But I do have neighbors with teenagers. I usually try not to bother them because except for their dogs during the day, and when the 23 year old makes the 13 year old cry, they keep to themselves and mow their yard. Unfortunately, mama redneck (affectionately) rouses the 23 year old and sends him over, beggars can't be choosers, and he does manage to wedge the window up another four inches before he declares that's it and heads back to his nap.

All right, it's now or never.

I first try head first. There's an end table under the window to help stabilize my weight while I wiggle in. I get to my waist, realize how much it'll hurt and how impossible it will be to change my mind once I commit. I back out and study the situation again. I grab a smaller wooden ladder, get up on the top rung and swing one leg through while balancing on the other leg and . . . I don't know how to keep going. But all my weight is on one leg which is quickly letting me know that it's struggling.

Oh no. I'm too high to duck my head and upper body through the window. I have probably less than a minute before my other leg gives out. I am now regretting every single decision the universe has ever made that has led to my birth which has led to this day.

Luckily, lightbulb comes on. I step down one rung while clinging to the window so I don't overbalance, this gives me room to duck through and I am now standing inside my house! \0/

I immediately went to attach my house key to the car fob. And two days later I am still so sore in such weird places!

I took the neighbors chocolate chip cookies to thank them, and so they'll help me the next time too.

I also replaced the fridge light which had gone out in March 2020. I'm sure there's some sort of metaphor here, but honestly every time I open it now the blinding light scares the crap out of me, so I'm not sure it's a pleasant metaphor.

The already cancelled classes on Wed/Thurs and I think it's only a matter of time before they close campus, so I already decided to forgo the extra money (though I have my fingers crossed they'll cancel Friday too) for a three day weekend. I got my desktop back from the fixit store, and I have reinstalled everything and am now achievement hunting on Steam and playing Dragon Age Inquisition for the umpteenth time. But it's okay. I downloaded a new hairstyle for my big qunari so it's basically a whole new game.

I guess the bulletproof exchange is not for me. )

I am way in over my head on the thing I'm working on for the MarvelReverseBang. Clothing is hard. However, I imagine nudity is also hard and is frowned on harder when looking for reference pics at work.

My second attempt at lasagna might have had too much meat sauce, though Wal-Mart gave me weird thin flat noodles instead of the thicker once with the wavy edge, so at least they definitely cooked through. However because of the substitution I have two more boxes of them, and I doubt I'll finish the extra in my freezer for another couple of months. So what else do people do with weird flat oven ready noodles?

Had to call for another visit from the plumber and I'm hoping they can fit me in today. The drain for the washing machine gets backed up and the water spews down the wall and I'm getting sad for my wood flooring. I mean I've mopped it up ever since I noticed, but still. I tried to stick the drain poker thing I have down it, but it's not long enough. I haven't washed clothes for the last two weeks and my lounge clothes are getting more and more ridiculous as I try to find clean things I evidently STOPPED WEARING FOR A REASON!

eta: they're here! Maybe I'll be able to continue to wear clean underwear!
eta2: oy that's a bad smell.

Mowed the lawn, but used the highest setting because I didn't feel like crying. This left enough of the weeds there that I felt fine finally spraying them so they will hopefully be deader when I mow them short next week.

[community profile] fandom_stocking is open until saturday to submit your stocking for fun surprises. The hope is that when they're posted you look around the stockings and leave a gift or two. Sometime near the end the elves look around for needy stockings and try to find folks to help make sure that everyone gets something. I think it's fun. I like making some icons and trying to write a few 1000 word bits.

[personal profile] clachnaben is hosting a Magical Realism Multifandom fest. There is currently a lot of hockey recs, but I really love some of the prompts that are posted over there. (Fests are a really simple prompt and fill game usually hosted on someone's personal journal.)

[community profile] holiday_wishes is going strong. Post a 10 wish list and see what happens. I'm a little more strapped for cash and time than last year, so I've only been poking around it here and there. Hopefully I'll get the chance after this week.

This week is a visit by my mom and her boyfriend and I'm excited to have them, but I also want them to be comfortable so I've been slightly insane with the cleaning, organizing, and finally fixing up my extra bedroom. I painted it, bought a bed frame to get it off the floor, curtains/curtain rods, and new sheets. It'll look pretty good when I finish it. I just hate going to my grandma's house because it's so uncomfortable, and if I can lure mom into coming over here instead, I'll be living the good life.

I'm 24,000 words into my J2 big bang with probably another 8/9,000 words left to go. I'm into part three, and suddenly Jensen is trying to insist that he needs equal POV time. Somebody just shoot me now. I might have to bribe him with a separate (and short!) one-shot.

I’ve had some sort of glass fragment stuck in my foot for the last three days. It doesn’t always hurt, but when it does, it is hella annoying. To continue my whine, my house had better turn the air conditioner on soon. Last night was hot enough that I couldn’t go to sleep until around 2 am. Some of the other apartments still have their heaters on, it boggles the mind. I need to find a job, but I have zero references. That doesn’t not make it very easy. Finally, it’s dead week, and I don’t want to do anything but I still have two papers to write and two tests to take.

There’s been a lot of SPN wank around, but I wisely did not click any of the links. Just knowing it was there was enough to throw off my fandom orbit. I got to thinking though, about my hopes for the future of Supernatural:

Non spoilery wish list. )

Also, my unpopular fannish opinions on Daniel Jackson:

winces )

Also, there's a guy in my program from Brazil. I told him his powerpoint was spiffy and he got really confused because he didn't know the word. It was cute, and I had to explain how lame I am. : )

1. So I put the ad in the paper to try and find new renters for my house. Lots of people called but no one came out to see it. It was rainy, but this might be a bad, bad thing.

2. Speaking of rain, I drove through a good two foot high flood of water to get to internet tonight. It was not fun, very scary, and no good. Thankfully I did not have a heart attack and the car appears to be fine. The things I do to keep up with you people... : )

Yet it is still raining, so I might be stranded in town. Woe!

3. I've decided if I ever get another dog, I'm going to name her McClane and refer to her as a he. I will also teach 'him' tricks by cursing. For example 'god damn it' will get McClane to rollover and 'shit' will get a handshake. I'm already very impressed with myself even if I never get another dog.

4. Don't think badly of me, but I'm just now beginning to catch up with the SGA eps I've missed. From the first season and the ending of the third season. I think it's neat to see these episodes together for the first time. I can easily see how the characters have grown and changed and completely stayed the same.

I finally saw John ride off into the sunset ala The Siege on Rodney's nuke and how he and Rodney interacted. Then I turned around and watched John try to ride a moonbase free of the atmosphere in The Ark and listen to Rodney pleading with him not to do it. Sometimes I forget how much I really do love the show even through its faults, and that there is more to fandom than fic.

I wish I could write meta, because I think those two eps together would be a good topic. Maybe someone has already done it? *looks hopefully for a link*

2b. Oh look it's stopped raining and I've had this post open for the last three hours. Perhaps the IHOP employees are beginning to wonder over my social life.

5. I think I'm in the process of signing up for [livejournal.com profile] sg_flyboys. I think I have an addiction and people need to stop having cool challenges, dangit.

HP House meme thing. I'm a Slytherin because I like football. Very scientific. )

I went to church today. I think I had repressed how much it offends me to sit there for an hour and listen to how I should be subservient to any male that comes along thinking that he knows what's best for me. That's probably why I haven't been for over a year.

I have stuff I want to post, but now with all the secrecy of my [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_romance prompt I can't because I don't know which of the various plots I'll end up writing. It's kind of frustrating. And yet, I'm still very excited about the whole idea, I got a great prompt.

If anyone else is willing to let me inflict my icon making skills on their interest, my last post is still open.

I'm on my way home tonight, so I'm going back to not having any internet access at home. I have definitely decided to move to Arkansas. Now I just have to figure out how to do it. I'm excited for the chance to have real people to talk to again, even if they are family...
: )

So, I totally meant to update yesterday, but I was distracted first by cleaning up the spectacular YUK that had taken over my kitchen and living room since the last time I cleaned. (Which, admittedly was the last time my parents came to visit last November. I suck.) I'm still in the process of cleaning my room (I can kinda see the floor now) and the bathroom (Oh God, give me strength). Other people go skiing or to the beach for Spring Break, I clean. Yeah...

The second thing that distracted me was David Hewlett in Boa vs Python which OMG horrible, awful Sci-Fi with horrible, awful acting, plot, and special effects, that you should all see before you die because hilarity ensued and I wished I would have had someone to watch it with.

NCAA picks came out on Sunday, and I'm not going to into how utterly wrong they are. Not that we expected to get in, (but a sixth seed in the NIT is no picnic either) but wow. So my cracktastic Final Four picks are: Texas vs. Gonzaga and Tennessee vs. Villanova with the Championship Game Gonzaga beating Villanova 69-67. Just watch and see, it'll happen when hell freezes over.

I wanna make a post later about my favorite elements, kinks, plots, and turn-ons are in fandom and fic. *note to self*

I want my roommate to come back, the house is too quiet.

So yesterday, I pampered myself by leaving the A/C on all day. That was nice. I even turned on my fish (which since I just filled up their tank again decided to rechristen them - Curt, Lincoln, and Kenobi. Curt likes to bother Kenobi.) on for part of the evening. Yeah, that's me splurging on electricity.

I found out that there's no good way to clean up raw egg from a carpeted floor. At least I couldn't find it, so please enlighten me.

Then, I couldn't go to sleep until aobut 3:30 in the effing morning. I get freaked out enough when I stay up 'till midnight because I'm between roommates and the doors don't actually lock, and this sucked big time. I've started sleeping with a hammer on my headboard, that's how paranoid I am. Then I get woken up at nine, by sounds coming from the attic directly over my room. Not a fun time.

Am I the only one who can't stand the new Island premiere pics? )

Star Wars-

- I wish Jedi would curse like normal people. It would make our job hella easier.

- Hermione is a Jedi, it's canon. I'll admit, I bought Anakin Skywalker: A Jedi's Journal on eBay and I use it to write down my fic ideas and for a bit of inspiration. It's got notes and sketches by Annie, and towards the end he mentions the other Jedi Padawans, including Hermione, a human female.

- I want to write Jedi on a Hot Tin Roof casting Anakin as Brick, Padme as Maggie, Palpatine as Big Daddy, and Obi-Wan as Skipper. I should probably seek professional help.

- It's my goal to finish ESB by the end of the week, and then take a bit of hiatus to get back into the school swing of things. Wish me luck.
