The Endless Summer Exchange (Top Gun summer/heat/sharks theme) is going live this weekend, and I'm really proud of writing this fic! I made myself cry at it, so it's been really fun seeing the comments of making other people cry too.

I rewatched 50 First Dates about a billion times since April, and except for whatever the fuck they were doing to Rob Schneider, it's still a pretty good movie 19 years later.

Summary:

Jake's in Hawaii to lose himself after getting the Navy's first air-to-air kill in decades. Instead he finds a ramshackle diner, a cast of odd characters, and possibly the love of his life.

I received this Top Gun/Stargate Atlantis fusion Bird's Brains Not Bird-Brained and the author also commissioned a piece of art!

Ironically, I think that's a good poem. Except I still think it.

Even with this, it's is not my year to read books. So I am going to not worry about a goal, and maybe try a longer book or two.

I finished up and posted the three Top Gun Maverick fics I started last year. I've now almost matched my total word count for last year, and while I'm behind, I still have some hope for those Sam/Bucky fics to see the light of day.

A Perch Built For Two - Jake/Bradley

Rooster is well known for keeping his own company, but between Maverick's reemergence and the suicide mission, Hangman manages to weasel his way into Bradley's attention. He's never let an alpha so close to him before, but Hangman might be the best choice - experienced and unlikely to ask for more than Bradley was willing to give. Unfortunately for him, it's Bradley who wants more, and he has no idea how to ask for it.

He shuffled a handful of papers, but then recited from memory, “During his final hop this afternoon at sixteen-ten, Lieutenant Bradshaw was unable to avoid a spontaneous formation of pollen cloud and was enveloped in spores that he ingested for the twelve minutes it took him to return and land.”

“Twelve minutes,” Jake repeated, muttering to himself. It could have been worse. Roughly twelve hours until it was out of his system. Long hours of mutual suffering with whatever sacrificial lamb Rooster had actually wanted. “Sir, there’s no way I’m on his list.”

“Hangman, no one can compel you to accept this choice,” Cyclone said, still avoiding locking eyes with Jake. The clouds were a painful fact of life, and the aftermath almost always caused issues for personnel performance and cohesion one way or another. “You can decline for any reason and no one will think less of you.”

TL;DR - A story told over multiple xmas years. Featuring Bradley looking for his home and Jake trying to fix everything with sex. Sad, sappy middle with a happy ending. Bradley is still an Eagles fan, sings another Jerry Lee Lewis song, and Jake likes his country music.

I went to see Top Gun Maverick because one set of my parents were in town and wanted to see it. I'd never seen Top Gun, Dad assured me I wasn't missing much. Maverick, however and despite the embedded military propaganda, was very entertaining. My review: big planes go fast - zoom zoom, big dudes leak emotions - talk to me goose. Danny Ramirez (Torres on Falcon and Winter Soldier) continues to be adorable and an excellent addition to the cast. His call sign was fanboy.

I enjoyed this fic which I guess spoils a little bit of what little plot there was in this movie, but it's also a real good rivals-to-lovers with emotionally compromised flyboys who put all the emphasis on their call signs:

I tried to watch the original Top Gun at work on Monday, and it was so bad. Like I had some nostalgia for the soundtrack, but otherwise I had no attachment, and it was a good thing I was getting paid to watch it, because yuck. The volleyball scene was not worth it. There is a shirtless beach football scene in the new movie, and it was definitely necessary and should be made into all the gifs.
