[personal profile] sineala is talking about due South over here and specifically what a troll Fraser was. I watched it as a kid with my dad, and I doubt troll was a verb at that time, but I absolutely enjoyed Fraser's sense of humor and that style of passive delivery.

I saw The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and . . . it's fine. Probably wait for it to stream unless you're a fan of Pedro Pascal's face - which was delightful. I was very confused by Nicky, but apparently )

Watched The Batman it was good, way better than I expected. The music was excellent, it really reminded me of some of the God of War III temple music. I would absolutely like to see the evolution here for Brucie and the addition of a Robin or two. I'm not holding my breath, but definitely second favorite live action Batman after Michael Keaton.

Finished Halloween Kills since I walked out of the theater it was so stupid. It continued to be absolutely the worst.

I got a tattoo!

It took about six minutes and it's supposed to last five days. : ) I already messed it up, but I think I got my six dollars worth out of it. I love neck tattoos, I thought Priestly's was just the hottest thing ever.

This is a neat little do-hickey. You pick your six favorite episodes of due South and trained monkeys will then tabulate your most likely choice for favorite character, pairing, and fic genre. I was not surprised by my results. : )
Hi, my name is Renae, and I like RayK, F/K, and crack!fic )

I don't know quite how it happened, especially since I've owned the DVD sets for over a year now, but I just found an ep I hadn't seen. The season 3/4 Christmas ep, yeah, I thought it was just the fannish hive mind that kept the secret santa fics going around. It's really neat to see a new (to me) episode. I love RayK.

Samuel Colt first came to Chicago on the trail of the killers of his father. For reasons that don’t particularly need exploring at this juncture, he remained attached as liaison officer to the Canadian Consulate. Some people postulate that he sticks around for his hot-ass partner in the police department - Dean Winchester. Actually, the second Dean Winchester as the first one left rather unexpectedly.

I admit it. My embarrassingly huge crush on Johnny Cash is entirely because of John Sheppard. I had absolutely no interest in listening to county - old country at that, until I fell head over heels in love with Sheppard and thought, "huh, guess I'll check that out." Last FM tells me that Mr. Cash is my top artist listened to overall. I'm kinda a dork, yeah? : )

I can hardly put on my denim jacket without adopting a Supernatural-like swagger.

You won't believe how many macaroon recipes I looked through after Cam made some for Sam.

All that's just to say that sometimes, I might possibly be geeky enough to shadow the habits of some of my favorite characters. I was just wondering if anyone else had stories to join me in geekery. Come on in, the water's fine!

Also, I started rewatching due South today. I forgot what a punch the pilot is. I loved that show so much. My dad made me watch it back in the day they were showing it on TNT and we recorded every one to VHS. I was such a little slasher back then. I read everything on the Due South Fiction Archive faster than I knew what m/m meant. Buddy Breathing in particular has stuck with me through the years.

Anyway, while Fraser was angsting in the Pilot, a song was playing in the background and I went to find it immediately. So here you go, Superman's Song by the Crash Test Dummies. I've listened to it now ... lots. Yeah, let's stick with that.

Kinks and Clichés: The Slave Fic(s)

I admit, I’ll always give a slave!fic a chance because it just hits slams so many of my buttons. For this one genre, I’ll suspend most of my reader elitism in the hopes that an image or two of the story will stick with me. Mostly, I can categorize what I want out of this cliché into two different plot lines:

Plot A: Through circumstances beyond the control of the characters, A is forced to pretend/act to be B’s slave. Either through fear for their own lives, the struggle to escape, or for some attainable goal these characters are forced together.

Plot B: While this might not be pure slave fic, it’s similar enough that I’d lump them together. This requires a gimmick, some sort of technology or drug that bonds the two people together (most likely against their wills at least at first).

Purely self-indulgent bullets as to why I like this cliché:

~ boys on their knees, angry about it, but wanting it soooo badly
~ collars, markings, or other possession signs hickeys
~ public submissions/ PDA (eg: petting, kissing, lounging)
~ hot outfits good for nothing but showing off the goods
~ bonding through needed proximity (including sleeping/unintentional cuddling)

I think that one of the main reasons that this cliché kinks the hell out of me is the plausible deniability. The character(s) in the vulnerable role get the opportunity to explore avenues that they’d never get the chance too otherwise. I don’t like fics where men are overly feminized (the quickest way to make me hit the back-button is tears when one of the guys isn’t near death or actually experiencing feminine stereotypes eg. hello mpreg.) but this is a chance for a character to either take or let go of control when maybe they couldn’t have before. Not that I’m saying that the character is going to throw off a lifetime of cultural brainwashing, but with the right buildup, this can be way hott.

I like bonding fics because enforced physical proximity can lead to so many, very interesting places. These fics often have the plus of enabling the characters to remain in familiar settings in a total unfamiliar mental headspace. Characters are forced to deal more immediately with others who are not affected and that leads to enforced growth/soul searching. The character has to fight against himself; his own body that is rebelling against what he wants/ or what he only thinks he wants.

Recs:

In no particular order, and updated as I find new (and old) fic. Feel free to rec some, I’d love you forever. NC-17 unless noted otherwise.

Here's my last [livejournal.com profile] de_recs entry. If I were a writer for Due South, I would write:

Episode Title: Mi Casa es Su Casa, but Check your Baggage at the Door.

Episode Villain: Victoria Metcalfe

pic )

Plot: Victoria comes back for one more shot at convincing Fraser to go back with her. While in Chicago, she finds out about RayV’s undercover work and tries to blackmail RayK.

Side plot: Ray finally convinces Fraser to move out of the Consulate, but maybe now isn’t the best time.

Guest Stars: David Hewlett as a (gay) apartment building manager

pic )

Memorable Quotes:

Fraser who has obviously been trying to get Ray’s attention for some time: “Ray, Ray, Ray.”
RayK as if snapping out of hypnosis: “72”
Fraser slightly exasperated: “What?”
RayK triumphantly: “That’s how many times you’ve said my name since yesterday.”
Fraser sighing as if long put upon: “Dad was right; I’m investing in the shock collar.”

RayK after David’s character hits on Fraser: “What is it with you? Some secret Canadian peritoneum?”
Fraser: “I believe you mean ‘pheromone’, Ray.”
RayK: “Whatever. You guys smell things. Inappropriate things at inappropriate moments.”

Episode Highlights:

~ RayK and Victoria getting into a chick!fight complete with slapping and hair-pulling.
~ Fraser Sr. complaining that he’s being left behind.
~ Victoria finally getting her comeuppance.
~ Fraser moving in with Ray at the end of the episode.

Your turn! Tell us about the episode you would have written into the series. Get as wild as you want, or stick as close to canon as you can. Bring back your favorite villain, guest star, or plot. Or add your own new villain, guest star, or plot. Give us quotes, scenes, sets, or anything that strikes your fancy. And hey, if anyone gets any fanfic ideas from this thread, that’s all the better, right?

I'm busy and so tired, and I'm way looking forward to spring break next week. I have nothing planned but getting in some hours at work and watching basketball. I need to start working out or something, I just have no energy at all these days. Boo.

Up next: "Recon" the second part of "Couples Night" my SG1/SGA nonsense. It's a lot of fun to write, again, if I only had the time.

Here's my next Due South rec if anyone is interested. It's all about Robert Fraser.

Hey everyone. Had a very busy day today, I only got home about an hour ago from an all-day-long marathon. I'm tired. So I don't know if any of you are due Southers, but I volunteered to rec episodes for March and I figure, I might as well post it on my journal too just to keep up with it.

I've got two papers due on Friday, guess I should probably start them sometime. Fourgy fic is finished, mostly. I just want to let it sit for a bit before I reread it and then ask for a victim volunteer to give it a once over. Also, I'm working on the prompt "dirty talk" and "cuddle" for [livejournal.com profile] smut_69.

Real Life (tm) is not going so well. It's not that I have anything to complain about, it's just that I feel very isolated from everything right now. Hopefully spring break will sort me out. Happy Ash Wednesday.

Obviously I'm a little rusty with the whole finding interesting things to write about. I haven't been able to flex any writing muscles (at least that don't have to do with leadership styles) for several months now. It's not easy to pick back up.

So, just so that I can get back in the swing of things, not necessarily because you want to read it.
