chase_acow: (sg1 team awesome)
Happy Black Widow month to those of you celebrating! I still haven't decided if I'll go see it, but like all MCU movies, I'll be so happy when it's finally out so I won't have to watch the trailer before EVERY SINGLE OTHER MOVIE I SEE.

Let's see if this'll work. . . Here is my community band playing a piece for our patriotic concert. It's usually my least favorite except for the 1812 Overture . . . which we didn't get to play this year. -> So, how did music celebrating Russia’s pushback against a foreign power become associated with America’s Fourth of July? It’s not even about the American War of 1812.

The answer has to do with cannons, Americans’ love of Tchaikovsky and its pop culture’s embrace of the "1812 Overture."

I also couldn't convince anyone else that we should skip the national anthem before every concert. I hate playing it.

Didn't work -> here is the link on Facebook I'm the back row on the right playing the silver trombone. I think you can see like from the nose up for a few seconds.

I've got no idea for [community profile] sunshine_challenge's first prompt - Hades. Any ideas what I should do?
chase_acow: Sam Wilson from Captain America happy and flying (cap s happy)
I went to the lake this morning to swim, and I only stayed in about half an hour, but wow am I sore. These are not the muscles I was working out when I made myself elliptical and lift. I took the weekend off hoping to soak up some sun and sleep at night, but it's supposed to start raining tonight and not stop until Thursday. Alas. But, I did not get sunburnt, and I'm really enjoying the book I started!

I've been saving Solos on Amazon Prime for when I really needed it on night shift. That moment came last night, and OMG I loved Mackie's episode Tom so much. And Helen Mirren's Peg because she is amazing and the two eps are connected. I bawled so much. They are designed to make you cry but it is excellent story telling by excellent actors. It's all about family.

These two plus Morgan Freeman's Stuart are the best, and highest rated. I also thought Anne Hathoway's Leah and Uzo Aduba's Sasha (though this is the most pandemic contenty one of them all, so it might not be for everyone) were good. I hated Jenny because cringe and Nera because it's pregnancy horror.

The series ponders what it means to be human, arguing that we are connected to others through shared experiences, even in our most isolated moments.

I also finally watched this video of Oscar Isaac, Anthony Mackie, Kevin Kline, Jessica Chastain and others talking about their teacher at Juilliard, their time at school, and acting. It's fun, informative, and interesting, and Mackie is very fuzzy, Oscar's gray hair is beautiful, and Jessica asks the hard questions. They're all so smart, and they get it. They talk about the racism, elitism, and sexism they faced and is ongoing in today's culture.
chase_acow: Sam Wilson's hand on Bucky Barnes' arm in shared pain (fatws touch)
I survived working my 7 days in a row despite the boss' best efforts* to make me work a 10 hr yesterday for my last shift. I am now the senior dispatcher at work and the first of three possible dominoes has fallen. I'm staring down the possibility of 12 hr shifts and mandatory overtime so . . . boo.

I liked the last episode of Falcon and Winter Soldier, but. . . )

I like this clip of Oscar Isaac training/practice fighting. I love that his hair is going gray and that he man buns it. He looks so good here!

*dayshift got sick so he had to cover and was desperate to not have to stay the full 8 hrs. I hope he chokes on dinner and poops himself where everyone can see.

chase_acow: sebastian stan playing an asshole character from Bronze says do not want (seb do not want)
I'm about to go in for my second night shift before I go back to my normal sleep schedule for a whole week before I have my two last nights. I hate my job. However last night I just sort of Sebastian Staned myself into survival. I can't believe I hadn't seen this video before. That bite at the end gives me life.

a little more info in Men's Health

He's also real good looking in this trailer for Endings Beginnings:

That kiss! They appear to not be making solid life choices, but I am fine with that for some Stan nudity. We didn't even get The Last Full Measure at my theater. I have needs, okay?
chase_acow: the companions from Dragon Age (da companions)
I honestly don't remember making this. I have no idea how I made it, but here it is! I just wanted to post it here on DW from LJ for posterity. I miss really active land comms where I feel comfortable playing. I would never have tried vidding on my own without that push.

DA2 was a good game, and I don't care what the haters say. Was it DA: Origins, no, obviously not. It's faster and has more sexual innuendo. It's a claustrophobic tale of bisexual trauma victims trying to pay their debts and keep their family alive and semi-happy. So really, isn't it the story of all of us?

If you're a fan of contained single novel fantasies instead of those bloated trilogies, this is the game for you! No need to play either other Dragon Age game, just this fast paced, bloody, sarcastic nightmare!

Don't get comfortable. Sometimes good advice, but particularly with this show that changes so much. Every season is a New Thing, and you might like one more than the others, but as a whole I have enjoyed the ride. I'm looking forward to rewatching this last season when I can binge it all together, because I didn't quite like it as much as the others on the first view.

Here is the Kierkegaard rap which I didn't know I needed until I saw it:

I really liked this show. It was ridiculous, it was thought provoking, you could see the characters really form relationships and act from those relationships, and I've got no problems with how they envision the afterlife. )
chase_acow: Sam Wilson from Captain America happy and flying (cap s happy)
Some things I've watched:

Live action Aladdin -> why, oh why did I watch this? )Though it did make me want to watch the cartoons afterwards, and those sequels really aren't great, but I have basically every original song stuck in my head at some point during the day for the last several days.

Spies in Disguise -> it was real cute, and yeah, I ship it. + fic rec )

[community profile] the_rewatch_job is starting up the first week of February, and even though I'd gotten through the first season already on my rewatch, I'm going to follow along. If you've never watched Leverage, I'll bet this is the way to do it. You can watch it free with ads on IMDB TV, you just have to sign in with them -> I watch it on the Amazon Prime app IMDB channel.

'What your MCU ships says about you.' But I am also just tickled with this dude's dead eye stare delivery. )
chase_acow: jack'o'lantern (fall lantern)
one day I'll understand screening comments. That day is not today!

Also my coworker had her baby early and I've been getting overtime, so I didn't do quite as much as I wanted. Sorry, but I hope the three of you have a very excellent night, and that good things happen for the rest of the year!
chase_acow: han solo looking scruffy says Han Solo is thinking about twins (sw twins)
Now I would get behind a re-edit for something like this! Darth Vader vs Obi-Wan take 2 in a fan edit that is really nice. I remember being super into the prequels, and then super disappointed in everything. I mean, they got their angsty send off fight in Revenge of the Sith, but for a shipper, their reunion in A New Hope is so anticlimactic.

I don't actually know what I'm talking about. My Star Wars feelings are varied and complicated.

chase_acow: (cable squint)
and I desperately want to talk about Dave Bautista, who was not in Hellboy but had two trailers, both of which were more entertaining then the actual main event. I don't know, is he some sort of unholy time traveling love child of Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson? Maybe. However he looks like he'd be a much better hugger than either of them, and Imma go see his movies.

chase_acow: close up of tony stark's mouth and nose in the iron man suit (iron close)

All of my gross conflicted feelings and also my dislike of Scarlett Johansson. )

And here's the first tidbit of hope for a new Dragon Age game! That is a beautiful red lyrium idol, though #thedreadwolfcanbitehisowntail. If I get my hands on Solas, that is one dead egg. Hopefully they learned their lesson from Mass Effect Andromeda, that game was stupidly big while still being incredibly shallow with wildly inferior antagonists. I just want a good, deep lore game that's like 30-40 hours doing 100% completion. Take a look at this year's game of the year God Of War, you can finish it in about 25 hours, but doing those sidequests and challenges add double the time but didn't feel repetitive or tacked on.

I still haven't finished the new Tomb Raider or Spider-Man games, because they got stretched out so much. My attention span is apparently still shrinking.
chase_acow: Grace in a cowboy hat from Saving Grace (cowboy grace)
(from the future again)

Went grocery shopping, I'm very happy with the bagels, eggs, aligator jerky, orange juice, and bananas. I love breakfast.

Went to the French Quarter yesterday. I mean, I expected touristy, but wow is it touristy. Cafe Du Monde was a let down. I mean the little pillow shaped funnel cakes were good, but not that good. We should have just had them in a restaurant like a normal warm dessert. Jackson Square was neat, Andrew Jackson is still a jerk, we bought art and Carl and I got tarot readings. I have forgotten everything about mine, except that the Devil card card was my fears card and it somehow pops up a lot when I ask someone to do a spread. Bought some trombone playing skeletons. Took a tour of the Voodoo Museum which was small but interesting. Ate at the Acme Oyster House - I don't get the big deal about raw oysters they don't taste, but it was fun to slurp.

Today we went to the zoo, and it was fun. Sadly the lions were closed, but the tigers were great. The live oaks are amazing and I will never not love and be in awe of them.

Then sadly, someone let Carl pick and he stupidly tried to make mom happy by sending us to a mall despite the fact that I presented plenty of evidence that all malls are dead. So we ended up in this super sad, half closed, no food having indoor super center thing. No one wanted anything. I took us to a hole in the wall sushi place that had good reviews, but Carl was positive sushi is just for lunch and not a filling dinner, so they were going to go down the sidewalk to the Mexican place. I convinced them to go so I could eat alone, and wow what a relief. It's real hard to go from hermit to 24/7 togetherness.

Then I made a mistake. Having stuffed ourselves, I then picked a movie - Bad Times at the El Royale. I'm pretty sure they both fell asleep and mom definitely hated it. I liked it, but it's a case of the trailer was shorter/better storytelling than then full movie. Chris Hemsworth is still best Chris (Birthday Buddies!) and listen cult leaders are bad, but that charisma and psychotic confidence is super hot. Not going to lie.

More season two stuff

AND

Hard in Hightown is a legit book now. Apparently a short book, don't be fooled by the prop in the video is what the reviews tell me. I want it for my collection, but I'll probably wait until the price drops a bit. : )

I want to play DA2 now.

Also: Anyone doing Bowl Mania? We could make a fannish group if there is. Or if there's already one, point me at it, please.
chase_acow: quote from Due South "Hey that's not buddies. I hate you." (ds buddies)
Here's the trailer in case you've somehow managed to miss it:

So, I am completely incapable of shipping Steve/Bucky. I do really like Steve/Tony, but there's still something that bugs me in that pairing. I really liked Steve/Peggy in the movie, she was awesome and pretty, but mostly good at her job and self sufficient.

Somehow I watched that trailer and fell hard for the guy that I assume is the strike team leader. I am now positive that he is in love/lust with Steve and they have hot manly shower sex after missions. I mean, just check out the way he watches Steve in briefing, and that line -> "Yeah, you seem pretty helpless without me." Therefore, I am really amused as Natasha is trying to set Steve up on a date, he's already planning post-op naughty times. They haven't told anyone because of fraternization regs, but Natasha knows because she knows everything and is just trying to goad Steve into telling her.

I am nearly sure that I am headed for heartbreak.

All that from a four minute trailer. I think maybe my slash goggles have fused permanently to my face.

5. What show from your childhood would you love to bring back?

I just bought a season of Zorro the series from ABCFamily in the early 1990s, and I requested it for Yuletide, so it's been on my mind a bit lately. I loved this series, the characters, the time period, and the music. It was ridiculous, but it was something I shared with my dad and Diego was my first crush on a character who was not a cartoon. : )

I would love a reboot, though I was not so enamored of Antonio Banderas in the two movies. I don't know if they would do it in the same time period, or if it would stand up to a present day adaptation. I figure there are enough storylines today about underdogs that Zorro could find a niche somewhere between Batman and Superman.

chase_acow: Let's Go to Prison a fistbump in the showers (random fist bump)
Maybe.

New laptop y'all! : ) A friend of mine showed me this video at work last night, and it super entertained me in those terrible hours between 4am and 5am. If I looked at Yuletide as a place for original fic based on a random source instead of a fannish exchange, I might enjoy it more. Basically, I want backstory for this like whoa.
