I admit it. My embarrassingly huge crush on Johnny Cash is entirely because of John Sheppard. I had absolutely no interest in listening to county - old country at that, until I fell head over heels in love with Sheppard and thought, "huh, guess I'll check that out." Last FM tells me that Mr. Cash is my top artist listened to overall. I'm kinda a dork, yeah? : )

I can hardly put on my denim jacket without adopting a Supernatural-like swagger.

You won't believe how many macaroon recipes I looked through after Cam made some for Sam.

All that's just to say that sometimes, I might possibly be geeky enough to shadow the habits of some of my favorite characters. I was just wondering if anyone else had stories to join me in geekery. Come on in, the water's fine!

SGA personality poll and quiz )

Also, I started rewatching due South today. I forgot what a punch the pilot is. I loved that show so much. My dad made me watch it back in the day they were showing it on TNT and we recorded every one to VHS. I was such a little slasher back then. I read everything on the Due South Fiction Archive faster than I knew what m/m meant. Buddy Breathing in particular has stuck with me through the years.

Anyway, while Fraser was angsting in the Pilot, a song was playing in the background and I went to find it immediately. So here you go, Superman's Song by the Crash Test Dummies. I've listened to it now ... lots. Yeah, let's stick with that.

So, before I got fed up and quit, I made it through round one. Yay for me. : )

I didn't get kicked out with this icon:

And I also made: )

In other news, I'm going to turn in my admissions packet for grad school tomorrow, and I am freaking out. They won't want someone who waited until the last minute and has crappy rec letters. I'm going to end up cooling my heels for another nine months. *sigh*

I've thought about this a little bit, but I'm very bad at applying the rules of academia to fandom. So, instead of a well written, cohesive essay you get me rambling and probably contradicting myself. I just needed to jot this down so I can hopefully let it go.

When you have a weekly television show, I guess there are only about two ways to go about making the episodes and storyline. )

On a related note:

I suppose it would be a little tacky to start up a postcard campaign for Joe Mallozzi? Something like:

Joe M - How are you such an asshole? No really.

I swear, my next Atlantis post will be happier, because I can find things to enjoy and that's what I'm going to focus on for the rest of the year. Seriously, hold me to it.

1. Thanks so much to [livejournal.com profile] spock74! I really appreciate the vgift, it just made my day! You just gotta love hugging teddie bears. : )

2. GIP

2a. Is a civil war in the SGA fandom inevitable? I mean, I still consider myself a n00b in the tortuous (GRE vocab) ways of fandom. I've been around Stargate for a little over a year and a half. Before that I flirted with Star Wars RotS but didn't really get involved in online politics. I'm just fascinated by all the goings on since we found out Sam was moving over to SGA. I'm pretty much a live and let live gal, but I'm just wondering if f-lists will be torn asunder over whether a person likes or dislikes Sam/Tapping.

Honestly, I've always preferred SG-1 to SGA even though I do enjoy SGA. On the other hand, I know that a lot of SGA fans don't like SG-1. I'm just curious if how a person came into the SGA fandom will predetermine some level of craziness in the OMG! SAM CARTER RUINED MY SHOW vs WTF? SHE'S WAY TOO GOOD FOR THAT DRIVEL fight.

This is a Sam friendly zone, but if Rodney doesn't stop being an idiot soon I'm gonna have to watch the show by peeking through my fingers while yelling "La, la, la, McKay's just in denial over how much in lust he is with Sheppard!"

3. I realized I'm going to miss Doppelganger on Friday and all the squee!again until I get home on Sunday. Geeze, why didn't I consult the SGA episode schedule before making my GRE appointment? I am obviously the dumbest human being in the world. : (

4. Did I tell y'all how much I enjoyed the movie The Game Plan? Cause I did. The Rock Dwayne Johnson is made of awesome, I don't care if the plotline is the most over-used ever. He did ballet, that's all I need to know.

5. Have any of you ever had an online arch-nemesis? Of course, it's actually all in my head - I'm nearly sure. I know how hard it is to get over a bad first impression in person let alone online, but I can't help me teeth going on edge every time I see a certain person post/comment. It's like no matter what it is, I always assume the worst of them. I was just wondering if I'm a freak or if this happens to other people too.

You can find approximately 1500 words of yet another accidental McShep marriage ceremony over here.

Toss of a Coin

The town commons held a complex fountain made of twisted metal and smooth marble like stone. The highest level was a good ten feet above the ground and from there, the water cascaded down a series of basins to the main pond. The base had a diameter of at least fifteen feet and the edge drooped off into a well, probably sunk deep into the ground. The water misted as it fell, splattering to cool the surrounding area from the heat of high noon. It was the last remaining working relic from an age when the people were more technologically advanced.

John thought it was pretty.

Yeah, yeah, I know that the lighting vs shading doesn't match across the pictures. That never was my forte. Feel free to point out anything else so I can concentrate on that the next time I feel like mucking around. I couldn't find either my sketchbook or my pencils when I decided I wanted to draw, so this is computer paper and a stubby #2 pencil. : )

First, I'd just like to say how much I don't love the way the previews for next week's episode gives away all the twists and endings. Jerkheads.

I read spoilers like crazy because I don't trust the writers not to do something extremely stupid ala Sunday, and I'd rather be warned before I watch something that bad. But still, it's neat to have a few twists in the episode that I don't know about.

Also, about last night's episode: )

I miss SG-1. I had a dream about them pulling Season 11 out anyway, but it was made real cheap and the only scene I saw they were in a ka'tesh and Teal'c was running down the hallway in full Prime regalia.
chase_acow: (voy blue)
*coughs*

Yeah, so I just watched the 3rd Season ender, First Strike. It was okay. Mostly, I had two thoughts:

1. Why couldn't they have done something different with Weir's hair. The way it doesn't move really freaks me out. I suppose her personal items shipped over includes a crate and a half of hairspray. I just don't get it.

2. Teyla would totally be Mr. Fantastic, Rodney would be the Invisible Woman, Ronon Thing, and John the Torch.

Other than that I liked the character moments, the small minute scenes where we got to see the characters actually talk to each other. Gee, what a neat idea, too bad they didn't think of it earlier.

IN OTHER NEWS:

I registered for the GRE today and I am a whirling mass of scared out of my mind and can't wait to get on with it. I need to start writing my statement of purpose. Recommendation letters are going to be a real bitch to get too.

IN OTHER OTHER NEWS:

I'm almost finished with SPN season one. I have committed to writing a Dean prompt from [livejournal.com profile] just_google_it and surprisingly, it's starting to look autobiographical despite the facts that I'm not a) a man b) named Dean Winchester or c) affiliated in any way with a campus GLBTIQA organization. It kinda hurts my brain when I think about it too hard.

Missed by l-l much,(wherein l-l equals .01). Alas.

Anyway, for my own book keeping, here is the fic that I wrote for the challenge:

Title: How to Survive the Pegasus Galaxy in Five Easy Steps.
Team: Romance
Prompt: Safe Conduct
Pairing(s): McKay/Sheppard
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Too bad our boys were never very good with following directions.

Safe Conduct )

Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: THIS IS A WORK OF FICTION = SO NOT REAL! If anyone's confused, I could make a diagram or perhaps a pie chart.
Summary: dhewletttwiter: Flanigan uses girly hair styling products, I think it’s soaking into his brain and turning him. Must watch closely.

1. So I put the ad in the paper to try and find new renters for my house. Lots of people called but no one came out to see it. It was rainy, but this might be a bad, bad thing.

2. Speaking of rain, I drove through a good two foot high flood of water to get to internet tonight. It was not fun, very scary, and no good. Thankfully I did not have a heart attack and the car appears to be fine. The things I do to keep up with you people... : )

Yet it is still raining, so I might be stranded in town. Woe!

3. I've decided if I ever get another dog, I'm going to name her McClane and refer to her as a he. I will also teach 'him' tricks by cursing. For example 'god damn it' will get McClane to rollover and 'shit' will get a handshake. I'm already very impressed with myself even if I never get another dog.

4. Don't think badly of me, but I'm just now beginning to catch up with the SGA eps I've missed. From the first season and the ending of the third season. I think it's neat to see these episodes together for the first time. I can easily see how the characters have grown and changed and completely stayed the same.

I finally saw John ride off into the sunset ala The Siege on Rodney's nuke and how he and Rodney interacted. Then I turned around and watched John try to ride a moonbase free of the atmosphere in The Ark and listen to Rodney pleading with him not to do it. Sometimes I forget how much I really do love the show even through its faults, and that there is more to fandom than fic.

I wish I could write meta, because I think those two eps together would be a good topic. Maybe someone has already done it? *looks hopefully for a link*

2b. Oh look it's stopped raining and I've had this post open for the last three hours. Perhaps the IHOP employees are beginning to wonder over my social life.

5. I think I'm in the process of signing up for [livejournal.com profile] sg_flyboys. I think I have an addiction and people need to stop having cool challenges, dangit.

I didn’t put this note when the fic was posted to [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa only because of the anon thing. I really, really appreciated her giving it a once over. Hey guys, head over to [livejournal.com profile] sg_recs and volunteer for a day and theme for September. Fandom, fic, character, visual arts, six degrees of Stargate, and reccer's choice are all still up for grabs. I'm doing episodes on Tuesdays. C'mon and play!

There's a ficathon going on over at [livejournal.com profile] sg_rarepairings so head over and sign up to write anything that's not Daniel/Jack, Jack/Sam, Rodney/John, or John/Elizabeth. I even said I'd be willing to write Daniel/Vala, god help me!

Stargate Sunnydale Contest

Select an episode/theme and revisit it using the Stargate Atlantis crew. No, I am not asking you to cut and paste the episode. Heck, I think some great fics could come from people that haven’t even seen the original Buffy/Angel episodes. It’s the ideas that are interesting. Use the episodes/themes as a jumping off point.

Buffy was my first fandom ever with the first NC-17 fic I ever read Letters to Whistler Buffy/Angel. I think I was either a freshman or an eighth grader at the time. I then smartened up and figured out that if one drool worthy male was good, two would be even better and started reading Angel/Xander, Spike/Xander, and Spike/Angel(us) most notably Saber Shadowkat.

Thus it was with great excitement that I found this challenge. Now if y'all could just help me whittle down my choice of episodes to choose, I'd be ever so grateful.

Step right up and pick a Buffy episode! )

I'm still at the parental unit's house. I have internet, but not that much time to be on it other than to bookmark stuff to look at later. I feel crazy disconnected, and awkwardly weird with fandom at the moment. It's strange, and I blame last week's eps for it.

It took me three days to watch SGA because I was a bit squicked at the embarrassment clause. I'd watch ten or fifteen mins and then have to go do something else. I did love Joe, he did a most excellent job. SG-1 was better, I loved the Cam/Dan at the beginning, and then all the Daniel scenes. But the other main plot, not so much. There has been some really good fic already written for it though.

I've written a little bit, but mostly, I've watched Farscape and messed around with my Daniel/Cameron moodtheme that's in the works. In fact, I think I just did something a little naughty that prompted this post. For the mood "full" I picked this picture: )

Is it too much?

Also, I learned a valuable lesson this morning, the consequences of which may or may not come back to haunt me in the future. But for all of you, I'll write it down-

When staying at your grandparent's house with your mom, older brother, and little brother, make sure you actually turn your laptop off when you go to bed so that it won't still be running in the morning. This is important because they might get up before you and want to go poke at your computer. When they're poking, a picture of naked boys engaging in naughty things might flash up, and they might be a little surprised and/or shocked. And maybe not in a good way.

So I was taking a test today in Late-Early-Western-Civ, and I had to write an essay about the "Scientific Revolution". The main point of my essay was the change over from a geocentric model to a heliocentric. One of the astronomers I referenced was Tycho Brahe, a man whose name I only remember because Rodney McKay wanted to name his and John's love child after Tycho.

Is this sad or what?

Also, I have a surprise for some of my f-list in a few minutes as soon as I write the post up!
