1. Thanks so much to [livejournal.com profile] spock74! I really appreciate the vgift, it just made my day! You just gotta love hugging teddie bears. : )

2. GIP

2a. Is a civil war in the SGA fandom inevitable? I mean, I still consider myself a n00b in the tortuous (GRE vocab) ways of fandom. I've been around Stargate for a little over a year and a half. Before that I flirted with Star Wars RotS but didn't really get involved in online politics. I'm just fascinated by all the goings on since we found out Sam was moving over to SGA. I'm pretty much a live and let live gal, but I'm just wondering if f-lists will be torn asunder over whether a person likes or dislikes Sam/Tapping.

Honestly, I've always preferred SG-1 to SGA even though I do enjoy SGA. On the other hand, I know that a lot of SGA fans don't like SG-1. I'm just curious if how a person came into the SGA fandom will predetermine some level of craziness in the OMG! SAM CARTER RUINED MY SHOW vs WTF? SHE'S WAY TOO GOOD FOR THAT DRIVEL fight.

This is a Sam friendly zone, but if Rodney doesn't stop being an idiot soon I'm gonna have to watch the show by peeking through my fingers while yelling "La, la, la, McKay's just in denial over how much in lust he is with Sheppard!"

3. I realized I'm going to miss Doppelganger on Friday and all the squee!again until I get home on Sunday. Geeze, why didn't I consult the SGA episode schedule before making my GRE appointment? I am obviously the dumbest human being in the world. : (

4. Did I tell y'all how much I enjoyed the movie The Game Plan? Cause I did. The Rock Dwayne Johnson is made of awesome, I don't care if the plotline is the most over-used ever. He did ballet, that's all I need to know.

5. Have any of you ever had an online arch-nemesis? Of course, it's actually all in my head - I'm nearly sure. I know how hard it is to get over a bad first impression in person let alone online, but I can't help me teeth going on edge every time I see a certain person post/comment. It's like no matter what it is, I always assume the worst of them. I was just wondering if I'm a freak or if this happens to other people too.

I've been an SG-1 fan for a number or years, and an SGA fan only since Ronon's arrival.

There are a number of reasons I dreaded Sam's inclusion in the SGA's universe, but I'm watching with an open mind.

McKay's Samcrush is just *one* of the reasons I wasn't too jazzed about her move. They've given it a pretty light touch so far, considering some of the sledgehammers they've bludgeoned us with in the past.

So far so good overall, but I put *nothing* past TPTB concerning future episodes. ::crosses fingers::

The writers are not so subtle are they? But I was still squirming when Rodney went to give Sam the flowers, even that was enough to set of my embarrassment-meter.

I feel kinda dumb now, because back in the day I bad-mouthed Weir's hair a lot and now I see people harping about Sam's hair and I think it's a pretty lame character bash. Yes, I am hypocritical much. : )

Dude, you have GREs this week too? Are you actually studying for it (I've been feeling like a n00b for studying when I know like half a dozen people who are all 'pfft, why would I do that?')?

I'm studying like crazy and doing practice questions and tests. It's too expensive to take for me to screw around on it. I got "Cracking the GRE" and read through it. I think it helped a lot. The first practice I did, I would have made a 1160 so I'm gonna take another and see if I improve. I still regret not studying for the ACT. I could have gotten a lot more scholarship if I had just made two points higher.

This is Homecoming week at my Alma Mater, so I take the test Friday morning, and then party for the rest of the weekend! I dread it and I am so looking forward to it. : )

Good luck on it! I'm still freaking out over the essay questions. I wonder if I'd get points if I just typed "Joe Flanigan is the most gorgeous man on Earth." over and over again?

I'm really stressed for the math - the verbal isn't a problem, but most of the math is stuff you learn in the 10th grade, and even when I was *in* the 10th grade I did horribly.

Mine is Saturday, and I will definitely be getting my party on as soon as I'm done (and I've taken a nap *g*) Damn right it's expensive! I have to take a subject test too, so that's another 130 down the tube :-/

Good luck to you too! Lol if you had the guts to write that you'd probably get the one SGA fan in the whole place as your reviewer ;-)

Yeah, I hate how we have to be all adult and realize that our impressions are kinda skewed through internet etiquette. I try to be very careful about how I phrase things, but now I'm all paranoid. *shifty eyes*

I do think the Sam thing could become a problem; I think it'll depend on how it's treated by the writers, frankly. I'm kind of mad that people were freaking out prior to the show even starting, because personally I'm waiting to see how it'll fall out.

I'm totally on board with the "McKay in denial" plan. I like both SG1 and SGA, but for different reasons, and I think there are different dynamics to the shows, so it'll be interesting to see how they fit her in.

On the other hand, though, I view them as part of the same canon - even aside from this year, the characters have appeared on the other show, and clearly are part of the same universe. My absolute favorite thing in fanfic is the crossover between the two.

Anyway, I'm waiting and hoping things go well, because I think that will make fandom more okay with things.

I don't think I'll hold my breath if we're depending on the SGA writers! But you're right I got tired of all the posts where people were claiming that their show was being ruined.

I love SGA/SG1 cross-overs. I wish they could do a movie with a combined cast, but man would that get expensive. As spinoffs go, the two shows together are not very cohesive, not like Buffy and Angel were. I get that some people like that, but I'd really have preferred some kind of mention or something during The Return that SG-1 was on base too. Would it have been so hard for John to have mentioned that he was jealous of all SG-1's important missions while he was stuck on babysitter duty?

I think Sam's gorgeous on SGA and I always liked her sense of humor. I hope they let that show in the next couple of episodes.

Oh, the civil war has been happening for MONTHS now. Most of it has revolved around the 'Sam means no Elizabeth' (or the 'Amanda means no Torri') shit. And believe me when I say that the battles have been UGLY.

My issue is, after the initial first eps, why will Sam still be there? Especially as Atlantis was DANIEL'S deal, not hers. If anyone should be replacing the civilian leader of Atlantis, it should be Daniel. Can they really spare Sam that much from the Ori battle? I mean, where is she going to fit in? Rodney is the brains and John is the military golden boy of Atlantis. Sam doesn't fit.

Just, shove Daniel at Atlantis and let Sam play at blowing up the Ori.

Yeah, I guess I just didn't realize that it would be affecting my through other people's episode reviews.

As I understood it, timeline wise, Season 4 SGA happens after the SG-1 movies. So, I'm assuming that the Ori have been dealt with and there's no, to use a Buffy term - Big Bad to fight anymore in the Milky Way. There's nothing really keeping Sam there when she could, in fact, make a difference in the Pegasus battle against Wraith, Replicators, and whatever else. I honestly do think that Sam is the best of both worlds for the post.

I don't think either side, military or civilian would have shouldered the risk of putting Daniel Jackson in charge of Atlantis. He's clearly too unpredictable and intractable to both sides. Civilians would have assumed Jack could have influenced him and the military would have known that he sucks at thinking about anything past his own research.

Let me just disclaim all that by saying that I am completely willing to be called a stupid head for saying that. I've never really understood Jackson's motivations and his understanding/methods/etc role in SG-1. I love him to pieces (mostly), but I do not get him.

Daniel would totally be there in Atlantis, circumstances willing having orgasms over all the knowledge now at his fingertips, but I think he would have made just as bad of a leader as McKay would have.

That's the part that confuses me, because I can't find a definate answer on the timeline, just that Joe said that there was no timeline between the two. EXCEPT, Sam gets promoted in Continuum and in SGA she's a full Colonel, which means that at least one happened between the two, but not sure about the other movie. *sighs* This is as bad as figuring out the Star Trek timelines.

I'm not sure about anything on Daniel anymore. There was flashes of him being more military in the last two seasons, but then he finally had a real puzzle to wrok on so there were flashes of the old Daniel too.

Not going to call you a stupid head, because of the last paragraph. I just... Sam seemed so happy to be going back to R&D at the beginning of season 9. I just can't see her accepting Atlantis, not with all the crap that comes with it. When is she ever going to get to do the things she loves?

Yeah, he would have been a pushover for McKay. He's just too use to giving over for Sam to do her thing and John would have to work even harder at telling Rodney no.

I'm definitely not anti-Sam, but I am VERY anti Sam-makes-McKay's-brain-a-bowl-of-simpering-drivel. I'm hoping that will taper off in later episodes, though *crosses fingers*

Also, OMG, there is one person that everytime they post I am all SHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUP. They were only mildly bitchy to me once but I can't let it go and I am too lame to defriend.

So, yes, I know EXACTLY how you feel :)

Honestly, I used to be just as bad as Rodney about embarrassing babbling around people I lusted/cared for. But that makes me want to watch him less, because it reminds me of what a goofball I was.

Defriending is so hard! I mean, I know that I'd prefer if people who actively skipped every post I made just defriended me so I'd have a better idea of who I'm actually talking to, but it's terrifying to turn that around and use the logic on myself. I just always think, what if they're already having a bad day, then I defriend them and it just makes it worse! However, I am fairly neurotic, so I have no idea if anyone else ever contemplates that kind of stuff.

Thankfully, this person is not on my flist, but they're still around.

See, I've only become anti-Sam the last few years. I adored SG-1 when it first started and loved Sam. I think it is the way her character has developed that annoys me most. The writers have developed a character who is so overly confident in her own abilities that she overrides every other suggestion from fellow scientists. I mean, I know she's the 'star' and has to save the day, but I find they've ended up making her too obnoxious.

Plus, omg, Joe Malozzi and his McKay fawning over Sam shit makes me nauseous. I'm sorry, McKay is pretty oblivious, but not that much.

And what [livejournal.com profile] kymscrazy said. Sam doesn't 'fit' with Atlantis. She's a military commander and a scientist. How can she not essentially take over from both her head of military and head scientist?

Joe mentioned yesterday that they'd been looking for a way to cause tension between Sheppard and Carter, but that the producers don't want to do that because Carter is too nice and, you know, the star. So incredibly irritating that they have that attitude at all.

Okay, I'll stop ranting now :)

I haven't really watched too many of the earlier episodes. I've seen all of 7-10 and I just haven't seen that much growth in her character. Of course, I didn't really pay attention to her much. I liked her though, I thought she felt comfortable with her team and her place in the SGC.

She's a military commander and a scientist. How can she not essentially take over from both her head of military and head scientist?

From what we've seen, Rodney and John are both at least decent "department" (or whatever you want to call it) heads, if a little lackluster with their administrative duties. However, I think that a little bit of general guidance would hurt either of them. I figured Sam could give them a bit of a bigger picture view and temper their boyish "Hey, explosions. Cool" attitudes.

Weir was really niether fish nor fowl, but Sam is some weird combo of the two and able to fit in between or with both at the same time. I'm not calling Shep or Weir dumb, but Sam and Rodney really are a league of their own. Neither am I calling Rodney and Weir doves, but as USAF officers, Sam and Shep have had years of training in tactics and weighing difficult options.

Joe mentioned yesterday that they'd been looking for a way to cause tension between Sheppard and Carter, but that the producers don't want to do that because Carter is too nice.

I've heard that before, and I agree with you that it's a bunch of irritating bullcrap. That tension and drama are part of the most interesting elements of the human condition. You can't tell me that neither John or Rodney would flex a bit to try and find their positions in the new(ish) chain-of-command. Plus, even if she is so nice, that in itself would be annoying.

I totally didn't mean to go off about how perfect Sam is I swear. Don't hate me, because my opinions might completely change with the next episode or two. I am hopeful though.

I'm totally with you on the embarassement thing. I download episodes from thi internet and can therefore stop and click forward and I've yet to watch the moment they tell Rodney he's not the new boss (I really don't think he should be and I really don't think he'd want to be either it was kind of like the writers made that up to have that horribly embarassing comic relief.) I also had to stop like every 4 words through Sam's "speech" because the whole scene was so ridiculous. (I mean there were like 20 people there?) I was close to skipping in the flower scene when Ronon came in (thankfully!, even though I think he was a little over the top too. Not in the essence of his actions, but in the "acting" itself.

I like Sam too and I'm not dreading to see how things develop. (I've seen ep4)

I thing 3.03 had this potential to be a very dark and sad episode, but the writers put in too much comical stuff that didn't really fit.

Sometimes I can over look random stupid things they have to do in the SGA shoot because of time/money/logistics like such a low, lame turnout for Sam's induction speech. Ronon was way on the offensive with Sam, we haven't seen that in a while, so it might be a little ooc, but I can get past that too.

but the writers put in too much comical stuff that didn't really fit

God love the SGA writers, because not too many other people do. They take the stories with Lucious and ham them up when they would have been so much better if they had treated the serious text with the weight that it deserved. Sometimes the humor is way too slap stick or at the characters expense.

3) I know when I was studying for the GREs an eon ago, I found the "how do math again for the GRE's" book very helpful. It re-taught math for someone who hadn't looked at in a very, very long time. How to make graphs, how to calculate angels and the like. I ended up doing better on the Math than the verbal which made me laugh.

Regardless - good luck!

5) There are some people who can be a bit angry so I tend to avoid them. And I do try to temper my own posts/comments because dry senses of humor/sarcasm does not translate well on-line.

(Also an unabashed Sam fan. However, I found her interactions with Ronon on reunion odd and a bit out of character for both - but I guess its part of the whole "establish tension" mechanism that, for me, failed just as much as the "foreshadowing with a baseball bat" about Ronon's friends being evil. As for the whole Rodney/Sam interactions - I tend to find he reacts that way around all women (ie Duet with Katie) so I tend to ignore it.)

Same thing happened to me. : ) It's way easier to bone up on some math skills, but it's hard to learn tons of new vocab words that have no place in most actual business.

Thank you!

5. Yeah, it's not anger per se, but an odd sense of personal entitlement that I see dripping from every word they type. It's just amazing to me how someone could hit a nerve and then keep pushing without actually meaning to. At least, I assume they don't mean to.

"foreshadowing with a baseball bat"

Ha! Never has a truer statement been made about the SGA writers. : )

I don't think I'm in any position to judge Carter's addition to the show considering I haven't watched any of S4 yet, but I'm iffy about it. I don't like how McKay acts around women he's attracted to -- I felt the same way about Katie Brown, the oh dear god shoot me before I have to watch another minute of this feeling. Just ... be our normal McKay.

Now, about Sam -- I'm watching S4 of SG-1 now, and I like her so far. Not sure how I'll feel about her in later seasons, especially with the things I'm reading, but I'm trying to keep an open mind about it.

Daniel, though. *loves*

It's been hard. There have been good moments, bad moments and really, I suppose I don't feel that strongly about it either way just yet.

I didn't like what I saw of Sam from the various early eps I watched. I don't think it was her fault entirely - it just hast to be hard being a girl in the boys club. You either come on too strong or not hard enough. Women just have a hard time of it all around.

When he's not being a bitch, I love Daniel. : )
