Reading: I finished The Teller of Small Fortunes By Julie Leong
summary )

I'd say this book is atypical of my reading. It's cozy. Nice characters make nice choices and band together against outside conflict. I'm sure it's somebody's wheelhouse, but I finished it! I enjoyed the cat.

Writing: I'm trying to get into a Cabin in the Woods/Empyrean series mash up from the adult teacher's POV. Zero narrative words, and idk a page and half of notes.

Watching: Somehow I got sucked into the gameshow The Floor? IDK either. It's fine I guess.
9-1-1: Lone Star finished and before the finale I had a dream that the entire show was a spin off from The Good Place and Owen was the architect in the system trying to guide the others to better choices so they could make it to their Good Place. The actual show was fine, but mine was better. : )
It's a good thing High Potential was already picked up for a second season, because that last episode was rushed and I'm not into that big of a cliff hanger for between seasons. I did get super obsessed with Daniel Sunjata though, and am now slowly making my way through Graceland.

Weather: 5/6th of my water pipes are frozen so you'd better believe I am babying the cold water in my bathroom. This was the week I was supposed to be able to teach the 40 hr basic course to our newbies all at once and instead we are all stuck at home typing through Teams. Thanks, I hate it, even if I do get to wear my sweatpants all day.

Cats:The outside not-my-cat is desperate to go back outside even though I have explained windchill several times now.
I bought an automatic litter box and one out of these six bastards is consistently using it. Two more are obsessed with it and I think they jump in and out just to watch it move. I still have hope a couple more will warm up to it, and then I'll buy another and only have two boxes to scoop.

Rec: in the shadows of every spark - a perfect Top Gun/Mass Effect fusion - Jake/Bradley - explicit
here’s no version of this galaxy that he’d want to be in without him. he’d face down a batarian stealth fighter armed with its own rail cannon for him, and he did just that, and he got rooster home free. no hangman without rooster, and all that.

or: jake and bradley and the reaper war.

The author remembers where the shift key is for capitalization in the fic, I swear.

Top Gun Maverick icons from a battle. There are so many awesome icons.

Fashion at the NFL draft. These are some bold looks, and I like most of them. I couldn't care less about the actual draft.

I am all for the writer's strike. Get 'em. I'm glad I'm not heavily invested in any kind of story heavy drama this time around (RIP SPN season 3). I think I might be over 9-1-1 and 9-1-1 Lone Star. They have finally reached my saturation point for dealing with ridiculously over the top, hurt/comfort, dramatic story lines. They barely show the dispatch or rescues in recent episodes. Also, I just can't stand TK so the wedding arc has been a nonstarter. Carlos is great.

The Rookie I've been less into as well since they brought the new rookie on. Selina should have been bounced from the program the first day when she whined about how being right was better than following probable cause rules. The rest of the show is at least thoughtful copaganda, but she is not a good cop and can't compartmentalize her own personal baggage.

9-1-1 I like it. )

9-1-1 Lone Star I don't like it as much. )

The Rookie I really like it. )

Also, did you know, HBO Max will suggest a movie to you based on your astrological sign? Mine didn't quite work out for me, but I still thought it was fun.

Finally, I'll be doing Falcon and Winter Soldier episode recaps on [community profile] disneyplusshows which is here for all your Star Wars and Marvel needs.

all right, ebay things here. We'll see how it goes. Books now, dvds later.

Bad Boys For Life was very entertaining, occasionally irksome, usually funny, and on the rare instance incredibly touching. I hadn't watched the first two, and I had no problems. The set up for the next one is relevant to my interests.

I accidentally got hooked on My 600lb Life off Hulu, and idk usually it's very encouraging. I have done more dishes and kitchen clean up than normal, but also sometimes it makes me desperately want the Whataburger honey butter chicken biscuits. So, give and take? : )

I finally got over my fear of Rob Lowe's face to try 9-1-1 Lone Star and of course I love it. I have issues with Liv Tyler's bangs and her lack of chemistry with anyone, but the fire crew is amazing. If you haven't heard, they have a trans actor playing a trans character and it is sooooooooooooooooo good. The captain's son who is also a firefighter is gay, going through Things, but also hitting it with one of the local cops. Thus far my biggest geographical gripe is this "Austin isn't that big of a town." to cover the mother of all 'coincidental meetings'.

[community profile] idproquo just started sign ups. I don't think multifandomtropes is going this year, so this is your chance to trope it up!

I mean sure, some people post what their reading, but I'm reading The Magicians, The Sirens of Titan, and Trail of Lightning but who knows if I'll finish any of them. I am a terrible reader. I fall for the characters and then want them to do what I want them to do.

But, I did watch a lot of TV this year and all these things are renewed:

The Orville, listen this is my dumb little space show that could, and I love it and this season was perfect except for one outfit in the final episode that threatened to roll my eyeballs out of my head. It's got a 65/94% rating on rotten tomatoes. It's a drama! Except when it's funny which is nearly always. Bortus is my favorite character and wow did he get a lot of time in season two! They really love to spotlight the nonhuman members of the Union. It's not gross or cringy, it's optimistic and heartfelt. Okay, sure, the first episode of this season was about Bortus' yearly urination ritual, but somehow it turns into a real bonding moment for the crew and IDK, okay?

9-1-1 solid second season, the finale was a bummer to me but otherwise I still love the cast. We got several origin story episode and I loved all of them. I find it funny that they get the cop parts of the episodes so not right a lot, but the dispatch parts are real good. There's an episode where Dispatcher wants to quit to go back to nursing because she can't reconcile that she only gets to try to help the people that call and once there's a uniform in front of them they hang up on her. So to prove to her that she does help, they bring in everyone that she's ever talked to from the first episode so she can get 'the rest of the story' and yeah, I balled just wailed I was so happy for her. I like that all these people are good people and you can cheer for them and be happy when good things happen. It got a bit drama heavy at the end, but getting there was fun.

The Rookie, I am not a Nathan Fillion fan, but he's okay, and then ensemble for this show is real, real, good. They get a lot of the cop parts right (except for the white triangle of death which LA cops should for dang sure know better, and some sloppy trigger control), and it's extremely relaxing for me to watch middle aged, mature Nolan out there making good decisions when sometimes I capslock at my coworkers that they are basically TODDLERS WITH GUNS, WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!. This show gave us a cliffhanger that I didn't need on the finale, and killed off a character that should have had way more air time and stuff to do, but otherwise I loved it. The romance aspect isn't beaten to death, but there's some there, especially between West and his way too cute boyfriend nurse. They are adorable and treated with respect in the show and I love them.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I actually just re-binged the entire series and can now for sure say that Gina was the worst part of it and I'm so glad she's gone. I had so many B99 dreams, these characters are so good and consistent that I couldn't keep my subconscious clear. Holt/Kevin is my married couple OTP they are perfect and nothing had better ever, ever happen to Kevin. Safe House, the ep where Jake and Kevin are hiding out watching Nic Cage movies is in my top five episodes of all tv episodes of all time. I was also very gleeful at this season finale as Suicide Squad was the best team up ever and I made so much noise when I was watching it. I love Dean Winters.

So what's next? Catch-22 looks interesting on Hulu. I still want to give The Umbrella Academy a chance. And for nostalgia sake I want to attempt the impossible rewatch of Supernatural so I can watch the last season live. This seems like a terrible idea and will possibly end in my death, but I am full of bad ideas and work is the most boring place alive.
