9-1-1
I'm digging the COVID acknowledgement. I like seeing them wear their masks and talk about the pandemic as actually affecting their lives. I am still into the Bobby/Athena/Michael blended family and how respectful and committed to each other they are. None of the rescue stories have really stuck out to me yet this year, but I did like the jinx episode. We also do not say the 'q' word, and we have a 'p' word never to be uttered.
Pregnancy storyline: I don't hate it. There are a lot of jokes, and some hapless men being weird.
What are these guys doing? Wrong answers only for any other watchers.
9-1-1 Lone Star
The lava in Texas was an interesting story. Something I vaguely worry about. It was never quicksand with me it was always lava, and when the earthquakes started around here that old fear crept back up. Spooky. I still really like Paul, Mateo, and Marjan are amazing together. I really like Judd with everyone and Grace is the dispatcher I aspire to be. She's so quick and smart and compassionate.
TK and Carlos - it's cool that there's a semi stable gay relationship. I just don't see any chemistry? Like the flirting is the fun part, even in established relationships. Plus TK kinda bothers me. It's like his normal voice is that voice you use to manipulate small children and animals, and he's really lived that golden life that leaves a man that age immature.
Pregnancy storyline: pregnancy in general grosses me out with the physical changes the woman's body has to go through. This one squicks me a little harder than the others. Maybe it's because Rob Lowe is so squicky to me? But they're just so old I'd feel sorry for both their kids, and my least favorite part of the show. The last episode's cliff hanger might change things, I'll have to wait and see.
The Rookie
I still love this cast of characters. Nathan Fillion the guy who hasn't said anything about the latest Whedon mess, star of the I hated it so much series Firefly, plays John Nolan so well that I forget it's him. This season promised to be more responsive to the issues brought up over the summer - bad cops, qualified immunity, systemic racism, and I think it's keeping its word. Is it copaganda? Probably. But I like the idea of good cops so much, and it makes me hate my job a little less.
This season has fixed some of the more egregious character flaws in Bradford from season one, which I appreciate since he is my favorite. He started out as an asshole cop trying to run rough over his rookie, but evolved into a much more fair minded dude. Fandom ships him and his boot Lucy Chen, but I can't that FTO/Rookie bond is as close to sacred as I'm willing to describe.
Pregnancy storyline: is super backseat so far, but I liked how she stood up for her work assignment role.
Also, did you know, HBO Max will suggest a movie to you based on your astrological sign? Mine didn't quite work out for me, but I still thought it was fun.
Finally, I'll be doing Falcon and Winter Soldier episode recaps on
