Frodo the cat was the best part of A Quiet Place Day One.

I should have known this movie wouldn't be for me. The first one irritated me a lot - like that soon after the end of the world - they got pregnant because they wanted to. What a pair of selfish and stupid parents. That's where I got stuck until I read this article: Toxic Masculinity and the Gender Politics of ‘A Quiet Place’ and then I was even more disgusted with the characters.

Not Millicent Simmonds/Regan Abbott though, she is a treasure.

I think I wanted a bigger story of humanity vs the aliens. People want to be with people, but people in a group make noise. Some would be willing to take the risk, and some would do anything to stay solo. There was one group scene in the movie, and I felt it was wasted. Escape to the ocean is also interesting and set up some interesting possibilities.

Also Death Angels is a stupid name and the same humanity that named the mutated wolf Ralph in Rampage would not have given them such a poetic name.

Listen, no one will budge me from the unearned optimism and hope that they'll have Sam Wilson be the star of his own movie and do it justice. I don't know how fun or rewatchable it'll be, but Anthony Mackie looks dang good!

Baseball:
The Phillies lost 18-3 to the not-so-hapless Oakland As yesterday. I'm gonna watch/listen the replay later while I do some cleaning around the house mostly because I want to know if the announcers can keep it together. They're pretty entertaining weirdos normally, but I think it's a good judge of character to watch a fan watch their team lay an egg. And because I want to see the vibes guy - Garrett Stubbs, our back up catcher, pitch the ninth ending as they just try to escape.

Cats:
I am taking my Phillie to her new home with my old roommate in the morning! And it's none too soon. I think my big cat is getting stressed and/or over-crowded, he's had moments being too rough while playing with the other long timers, and stalked Phillie to trap her under the table before I realized what was going on. Phillie has really bloomed into a playful and affectionate cat, I hope she settles into the new place okay.

Something bothering me:
I don't like punching down. I think nitpicking on typos, word mix-ups, and silly mistakes in fan-fic is punching down. We create because we love/hate/want-to-fix the source and hope that someone else will enjoy what we do. Seeing someone being mean about it is kinda a morale buster. It's not funny or helpful.

The travel blog I'm definitely not starting:
America's Best Mountain Towns Have Beauty, Adventure, and a Frozen Dead Guy Festival

if the waterfall conceals noise why did they not live by the waterfall or at least give birth there. also deaf people can be SO LOUD. the idea that a deaf child is a silent child is wild. like even if (i don't remember) she's totally mute it's incredibly difficult to move silently when you have no idea if you're making sound or not. HOW was that much corn planted silently.

now i'm off to read that link and probably watch the sequel later today. but i will NOT be streaming it.

I haven't seen Quiet Space, wasn't much interested, but I did find the article a good read.

I watched the very first Quite Place movie and was just...boggled. It was so STUPID. I loathed it. Everything about it from the first couple minutes to the end had me going 'wth? why? how? what? NO!!!'

Yucko.

Interesting article and yes, it underscores most of what was wrong with that movie (the rest being aliens and a plot so thinly imagined it boggles the mind).

I mean, I *love* a good aliens movie. My jam!
But these were stupid. A, what, 13 year old kid figured out how to kill them (when apparently bullets also do that), but the entire world and/or every military mind on the planet COULD NOT? When they realized they used hearing for locating stuff, there are SO MANY OPTIONS that even the cops could deploy. Just ridiculous.

And who, in a hostile environment, puts the smallest kid AT THE BACK of a line of people who are supposed to move all quiet and stealthy? Just ridiculous. And that nail!! You see a nail like that suddenly pop up (nails don't do that), you immediately bend it down or something, you don't leave it sticking up like that for even one minute. AND AND AND....

I could go on, but I won't, heh. The dad was excruciatingly boring and cliche, yes. I can see why survivalist man-bros loved him.

I spent the whole of the film worrying about that cat. My concern was very much for Frodo and not the humans.

That's great news Phillie has a new home. Hopefully, your cat will feel more secure by now.
