I’m not crying - wait, yes I am. . .
Feb. 16th, 2018 07:21 pmBut they’re good tears. : )
Queer Eye. I love this reboot, though I only managed to watch the first couple of episodes at work last night. I was absolutely was floored by the first episode. They took the self-deprecating older gentleman and listened to him, and helped him, and taught him and loved him. I was hooked the entire time, and at the end when he started crying, they started crying, and then I started crying. I have the idea that it will be a once an episode occurrence.
The feminine characteristics that are so often negatively associated with being gay are the qualities we need men to embrace. The timing of Queer Eye’s reboot is unexpectedly perfect so, at the very least, watch the show and let it bring a little joy into your life. And at the most, bring a little more queerness into your life.
The goal isn’t to give them a makeover, but rather, as the gurus call it, a “make-better.” It’s about tapping into the subjects’ insecurities, playing to their strengths, and establishing a genuine, enduring connection with them.
I really like the video in that last link. It feels like they get to really talk about what they care about. They haven't shied away from the hard topics. They taught that first older guy how to approach and talk about gender roles, and the third episode discusses Black Lives Matter and police.
