life consumption

My arch nemesis the ice-cream van driver woke me up before 6 yesterday, but my sleep schedule has been so wonky I decided to go with it, get up, and try to enjoy going outside to sit with the sun for a little bit. I started taking a vitamin D supplement with this round of night shift, but I figured some of the real deal couldn't hurt anything. Today the neighbor across the street was playing music in their front yard though it was only loud enough for the bass to get to my bedroom, and it sounded enough like polka to lead to the weirdest nightmare. . .
Really in the nightmare, I was under the big tent with infinite rows of tables and there were string lights everywhere. The kitchen was behind me busy as ever (In college, I used to work in the kitchen taking orders), and the band was on stage. Nothing really happened, but I felt this impending doom everywhere. I woke up with the doorbell because my old roommate had left her car in my driveway for spring break, so I remember the dream.
Thinking about it later, I decided while there is a massive scope for horror at Oktoberfest, my personal nightmare would have been being stuck in the chicken dance, and it starts like a dirge then goes faster and faster and faster before swinging back to dirge and repeating. When anyone burns out and drops the Jäger girls would drag them back to the kitchen and that's where the schnitzel sandwiches come from. Somehow it's a nice mix of the Stranger and the Flesh.
I didn't watch a single men's ncaa basketball game, but my inner gambler/competitor couldn't help filling out a bracket. I decided first step was picking the team with more wins vs top 25 teams and then to go with my gut. I have Villanova winning it all.
I am so angry at Book and am not satisfied with the punishment/conclusion of that arc. I recognize that this is the difference between me and my vengeance seeking heart and the more civilized future that Star Trek wants us to strive for, and yet I can't help it. He should have known better and Tarka can go straight to an Emerald-Chain filled hell.
I really love Michael and the rest of the crew. I'm not sure "Let's fly" really stands up to the other Captains and their catch phrases, but okay. I really enjoy Tig Notaro but I have no idea what her character's name is. She is delightfully dry.
I think the second season was my favorite, but I've only every watched any of them once.
I watched season 41 and the first episode of this new season of Survivor, and I love the changes. Most obviously, it's so diverse and THEY GET TO WEAR CLOTHES! There are other changes of course, it's 26 days instead of 39, so the contestants have to start playing a lot faster and it feels likes there's nowhere to hide.
60 year old Jeff Probst will no longer use 'guys' as a group pronoun and also he clearly made a deal somewhere to stop aging.
I finished reading Bird Box by Josh Malerman and it is very similar and very different than the Sandra Bullock Netflix movie (which I really liked). I enjoyed it quite a lot, and am now waiting for the sequel Malorie from the library.
The last group I interviewed with for a new job broke up with me last Friday. Which I figured, there were a few too many hurdles between me and being good at that job (I would have gotten there, it just might have taken a little longer than they'd expected) that I thought they'd find a better fit. However, the guy I talked to tried to be really encouraging and gave me some advice to freshen up my cover letter/resume. I wish he would have stopped there but he tried to push me at a different position which paid a lot less and my imposter syndrome flared up hardcore.

Date: 2022-03-21 02:18 am (UTC)Tig Notaro's character is great, and I'm so glad she got such a big role this time. But seriously, how did someone not wonder where Reno was earlier? I know there was nowhere for her to go, but someone should have needed her for something, and gone looking for her when she didn't respond.

Date: 2022-03-21 08:45 am (UTC)I enjoy most the characters so much, but Reno's brand of funny nihilism is some of my favorite character moments. I guess since she only got to be in those like three(?) episodes so I didn't really see her interact with the crew much and then I didn't find it too weird that they didn't miss her.
