Okay, so seriously. I was taking my little brother on college visits Thurs/Fri and we were in a motel in the middle of AR. I thought for a second about taking my laptop and then thought, nah, surely there won't be anything earth-shattering happen. Oh, imagine my surprise when Sam and Dean
As I said to
I mean, I remember when I first found slash back in '98 or '99. It took a while and I had to kind of acclimatize myself mouse-click to mouse-click. Now there are people who will google the term and get through into the butt-sex head first (and isn't that an interesting visual?).
Mostly, I was away from my computer, and I'm not even kidding, but all I could think of was doomsday scenarios. I guess I might be a tad bit melodramatic. *sheepish* My first worry was that all of fandom would hate us (SPN fandom) for outing slash. We'll be shunned wherever we go! I thought to myself. My second worry was that this would make the most epic wank to end all wanks. Supernatural vs. Wincest: internet cage match to the death! Then I thought, Oh, I wonder if everyone will freak out and lock their journals and we'll have to go back to the stoneage technology of mailing lists until society as a whole forgets us again.
I think I'm still holding my breath waiting for the other shoe to drop. I did watch the scene repeatedly just now so it won't catch me by surprize again.
ETA: Also, how much fun do you think Jensen and Jared had trying to shoot the slash scene? I'll bet they were giggling right up to the minute the director yelled action. I hope they weren't too mocking...
Anyway, back to SPN
I love that in the same episode where Dean pronounced that Sam slash Dean was sick is also the episode where Dean basically told Heaven and Earth that we could all go to Hell if somebody didn't help him
I'm going to post a poll on this ep later because I'm really curious what everyone else on my flist thought about it.
I randomly throw grenades.

Date: 2009-04-04 06:26 am (UTC)And I feel awkward and judged. Especially with the new EW article. I think that is the worst part of all, for me. I can deal with them doing it on the show, because there was some kind of discussion beforehand-- at cons and such-- where fans have talked to the actors/writers about it. So it wasn't like SURPRISE WE KNOW YOUR SECRET AND JUDGE YOU as much as the EW article completely was.
IDK what to think. I'm confused and feel like the tone of the set is changing-- the cover of EW was something like "the show is great, so why do the stars want off?" And I don't like where the show seems to be heading, and just. Bah. Supernatural is too much for me right now. I think it wouldn't have been a big deal at any other time, but with this, news that the boys might not be getting along, drama over Danneel, drama over everyone wanting off the set, drama over potentially giving Misha slash fanfiction, the separation between Sam and Dean, and a lot of fans being unhappy with the story line-- just... bad timing.

Date: 2009-04-04 06:12 pm (UTC)The EW article was annoying. Back in the day, I never thought that slash would ever be as public as it is now. On one hand, that's kinda scary, but on the other hand, maybe more people will find us who need to find us. I don't know. I can see the creepiness factor. I didn't start watching SPN until just before S3 because I was weirded out by the idea of incest. I just mean I can see where they're coming from. I live in Oklahoma and just the idea of being queer is damnable and open to mocking. I don't think many would get the idea of slash. So, this judging is not new, it's just never been so public.
I gained a lot of emotional baggage to carry around fandom over the rumors of the boys fighting and that damn blind item that went around earlier. As much as I like to play with the characters of "Jensen" and "Jared" I actually really like them as people too and want them to be happy. They were so cute at the con though, and since I don't care either way about Danneel I could ignore that. But you're totally right. Drama on the set + drama on the show + drama in fandom and I'm surprised that there isn't more spontaneous human combustion going on! *shakes head*
I going to hang on until the end though, even if I have to bite and scratch to hold on. : ) I think the good still outweighs the bad, and I meet too many awesome people through SPN.
