I went to see Top Gun Maverick because one set of my parents were in town and wanted to see it. I'd never seen Top Gun, Dad assured me I wasn't missing much. Maverick, however and despite the embedded military propaganda, was very entertaining. My review: big planes go fast - zoom zoom, big dudes leak emotions - talk to me goose. Danny Ramirez (Torres on Falcon and Winter Soldier) continues to be adorable and an excellent addition to the cast. His call sign was fanboy.

I enjoyed this fic which I guess spoils a little bit of what little plot there was in this movie, but it's also a real good rivals-to-lovers with emotionally compromised flyboys who put all the emphasis on their call signs:

I tried to watch the original Top Gun at work on Monday, and it was so bad. Like I had some nostalgia for the soundtrack, but otherwise I had no attachment, and it was a good thing I was getting paid to watch it, because yuck. The volleyball scene was not worth it. There is a shirtless beach football scene in the new movie, and it was definitely necessary and should be made into all the gifs.

a. I spent Fri/Sat nights at a cabin at Foss State Park and had a good time. The lake was real low, and sadly I did not have a good view from the cabin, but there was a great rooster across the street that crowed at any and every time of the day.
b. It was really for my little brother's wedding in a tiny town about 20 mins away. The wedding was cute and everyone in our stupid family behaved. They've got three kids altogether and they did a great job blending their families and getting all the kids involved.
c. I also spent three hours watching my football team choke away a conference championship in a game that came down to the last second and about ten inches. (We wouldn't have been in a nail biter if it hadn't been for the FOUR F-ING INTERCEPTIONS and TERRIBLE PLAY CALLING IN BACK-TO-BACK RED ZONE POSSESSIONS!!!) I'm fine.

3. I finally posted my Professional Wrestling AU Sam/Bucky fic for marvel_bang! I'm so glad to get it out of my wip folder cuz I had a lot of fun with it, but I also wanted to strangle it at several points.

When he outs them on national television during a tag-team match after Bucky gets hurt, the reaction from the world is actually positive. Sam has to decide what he really wants for a life after wrestling, but not before he wipes that stupid smirk off Rumlow's face and gets his own chance at the title.

I wrote two things! And I like them both!

I had to pass on crossworks there wasn't a lot there I felt comfortable with. Though one day I will write that Leverage/Star Trek fusion of my dreams. I am keeping my eye on auexchange which will open sign ups on Wednesday.

And so I can cross off the two goals I made for snowflake. I finished the Friends With Benefits . . . And Lube series and I enjoyed Falcon and Winter Solider even though it's not perfect. I am so pleased that if it was a low bar they cleared it, and I'll be able to rewatch this series at least as much as I can stand.

For smut4smut I wrote not the worst thing - Alistair/Zevran Arainai, Dragon Age: Origins, explicit dream-sharing sex in which feelings happen.

And I posted Sex -> Not Just For Pals to conclude the Bucky Barnes/Sam Wilson, MCU, explicit Bucky's dick wants to have a good time but oh no now everyone has feelings trilogy.

There is a small possibility I have a trope problem, but honestly I'm gonna embrace that and make all these boys admit their most vulnerable wants and needs. It's for their own good.

yes I am having trouble typing it because chase_acock just isn't what I was going for

- so my goal for this is to let loose and write fast and weird on treats/exchanges I'm not real sure about but want to try. I want to write more treats for exchanges but I feel paralyzed about putting it on my main account. I don't want to annoy anyone with weird, kinky or very short bits. During snowflake_challenge a lot of people fondly remembering comment communities and fests, but I think treats for exchanges are the closest we get a lot of the time. I've written some things I've been really proud of fast and loose for comment!fics but I've also failed sometimes. I want to feel comfortable enough to take that chance and I think an off-brand AO3 handle might help. We'll see anyway.

Also on winterfalcon and for snowflake_challenge, I recced three newish Sam/Bucky fics which you can find here. One's high on weed, the other aliens made them do it, and the last is technically an A/B/O warlord au, but most of the fic is Bucky figuring out his life.

So, while I am trying to resuscitate that community are there any others y'all in particular would like to see more active? I'm trying to get serious about saving some cash, so I've been looking through actyourwage which is still a great idea, but the community couldn't keep going. I might try posting there for a while too see if anyone'll start a conversation.

My current daily word goal through the end of the month is 2,101. I had originally tried to block out two days for travel around Thanksgiving, knowing I would still probably be able to write some on those days and make up a deficit. But it's a lot harder to hit 2,868 words a day so I put those days back in my calendar to lower the daily goal and I've done about 2,500 words the last couple of days. \0/ Sure it's not the original fic I wanted, but this Hallmark fic is seriously entertaining me right now.

I posted more Sam Wilson/Bucky Barnes on AO3. I immediately clicked 'cheating roleplay' when I saw it on the options for the bingo, and I was so excited to see it on my card. I really enjoyed the opening scene of Black Mirror: Striking Vipers when Mackie's character approached his girlfriend at the bar and tried to pick her up. So I used that a bit but let Sam be the one picked up. I definitely wanted to be in his head so he could think about the cheating aspect he was supposed to be playing up, the conflicting emotions of yeah, I still got it versus I love my husband, I'm just a little lost right now. All wrapped up with no actual cheating because they're married and grossly in love, but there'd still be feelings involved.

This is my Sam Wilson Birthday Bang fic, with art from esaael! This one, while being fun to write was a beast. I dragged and the word count kept growing and Sam kept having emotions. I'm really proud of it right now. Sure it's a bit of an id fic -> I desperately want Sam to have a team and family, Peter to have real mentors and friends, and shove a bunch of cameos in places - but I stand by it. This fic is going to make you feel good for these boys and their future.

So if you've got an extra hour or so, have a gander!

This is what I wrote for mcu_exchange, and I ended up enjoying it. My recipient didn't want the antagonistic relationship, so I decided to go with a soft slice-of-life piece during Bucky's time in Wakanda. Now I have my own Wakanda thoughts, like how much a city boy like Bucky would really know about living in the middle of nowhere alone with a herd of goats. Peace, and solitude, and not trying to kill anybody while nobody's trying to kill you is a nice vacation, but it isn't home. In my head-canon, I gotta think the Steve, Sam, Nat trio took turns visiting. Here's one of Sam's.

I'm not good at drabbles, though sometimes I can make a double or triple work. I do like the challenge of shooting for an exact word count, because sometimes it is not easy. I think it makes the writing tighter and gets rid vague or weasel words. Not all the time, but sometimes.

- the idea of Winter Soldier being a different personality and the complications that'd bring to either a Bucky/Sam or Winter/Sam relationship.
- their brinksmanship, trying to one up each other for literally anything

Tony Stark/Sam Wilson - I didn't know how much I wanted this until I wrote some short pieces, and now I want more. They barely spend any time together in the movies so feel free to go off road at any point in the series.
- Tony is lecturing somewhere and Sam goes along -> road trip, only one bed, luggage snafu
- Sam seems like the sensible reliable one and Tony the neurotic one, but what would it take for them to reverse roles?

Bucky Barnes/Tony Stark - oh man, feel free to ignore or massively change the way Civil War happened to make this pairing more feasible
- these are two lost boys if there ever were, and I love them dancing around each other with defensive vulnerability
- on the off chance you've read Winter Solider (2018), I'd love to see them on their date to the county fair to see the fireworks. I'm just going to assume it probably doesn't go as planned.
- alternatively I'd love a space adventure where they have to depend on each other to survive.
