chase_acow: quote from Due South "Hey that's not buddies. I hate you." (ds buddies)
Netflix: Daybreak - post apocalypse teenage nonsense of love, redemption, zombies, and cannibals. I only recognized Matthew Broderick as the principal and Colin Ford (young Sam Winchester from Supernatural) who plays the main lead Josh. It's a love it or hate it format of wall-breaking, flashback, genre shifts, unreliable narrators, and POV shifts. I loved it. There are plenty of unhealthy relationships, some examples of character growth, characters making really bad choices followed up by trying to fix it for reasons which may or may not be altruistic. I really liked the way it ended. The big mystery of what happened to the adults is only slightly resolved, and we get the supreme overlord we deserve (though I'm sure it's going to go very badly).

Netflix: Queer Eye Japan - mostly naw. The first episode was great, but I doubt I'll rewatch any of them.

Disney: Gargoyles - I'm enjoying it again so far. It's been so long since I tried to watch any of it. I'm glad it's holding up.

Disney: X-Men - holy soap opera Cyclops! I forgot how over melodramatic everything is. How on earth was this a kids show back in the day? I'm only a few eps in, but I'm excited to revisit Rogue/Gambit and the Dark Phoenix story lines. Maybe I just connected with Wolverine because he too acts like a misunderstood 13 year old girl?

Podcast: The Magnus Archives I've finished the first 80 episodes which is the first two seasons because [personal profile] rydra_wong started shouting about in in their journal (honestly, I am so here for when people start shouting about things they love!) and I am a lemming. This is honestly the best summary of it which I've shortened here from one entry:

The Magnus Archives is a horror podcast that starts out disguised as a horror anthology: Jonathan Sims, newly-appointed head archivist of the Magnus Institute, is making audio recordings of statements in the archives given by people who've had strange/supernatural encounters.

Fair enough, you think: this is an obvious framework for a dude to read horror stories into a microphone with a spooky posh British voice. And they really are good standalone short stories!

... then you start realizing that they're not standalones (though they all work on that level too).

And it gradually turns out that there's a complex over-arching meta-narrative (plotted from the start as a five-season arc with a proper ending; season four just finished) and an ensemble cast. And it's fucking AMAZING and the character development and relationships are Kill. Ing. Me.

They have more info in this post and several others around the same time.

IMDB TV: I have very little idea what this actually is. I found the channel when I was surfing through the Amazon streaming app. It currently has seasons of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Fringe, and Leverage free with ads. The ads aren't long or terribly spliced so I don't mind them. Through the Amazon app at least you also have access to their x-ray feature for trivia and other info and that's one of my favorite things. I watched two eps of Fringe last night. I never made it all the way through last time, but I remember really enjoying the first several seasons.

TV: Rick and Morty So far so good with this season. I don't know that many of y'all watch this show. It def isn't for everybody, and that's before you factor in the obnoxious fans who hold Rick up like the perfect example of male intellectual dominion. Episode one clearly told the fascists and the lets-not-talk-about-politics-lets-just-have-fun-adventures groups to go fuck themselves and I liked it. The second episode which is technically about shy pooping ending up gut punching me in the feels at the end. Rick is a lonely asshole because he's been an selfish asshole who has lost sight of the fact life means anything when you can just jump through the multiverse and start over. He is the only one he can blame for his life. And yet. . . maybe he's trying to change? IDK, but here is the end scene if anyone is interested. He set up the trap for someone else who was using his toilet, and then things happened and he ends up sitting there.

The poll madness continues! There aren't any spoilers for the movies in the poll, it's more like generic franchise questions.

Fast and Furious and Wolverine )

Oh noes! The computer lab has just been infiltrated by incoming freshmen! They're so tiny looking! Exclamation mark!
