what if the right wrongs never come by anymore

First, and most importantly, I have a job interview on Monday with Career Services and the way he described the job really sounds like something I could do and something I would enjoy! Oh man, cross your fingers for me. Long time listeners know well how much I hate my current bosses and am tired of the job.

I accidentally left the cat outside for over six hours yesterday. I let her out with the dogs, then forgot when I doordashed, and I'm sure the strange car and person scared her off. She came back inside with stinky, hard mud caked in her paws and between her toes. It must have been super uncomfortable, but when I ran the tiniest bit of water in the sink to stick her paws in, it was like death had come for her. So much caterwauling! 





Squicks - What are some things that squick you in fandom - not necessarily "icky", though it can be. From anything involving blood, to bad grammar.


I miss when squick was a bigger thing in fandom and fests. I don't understand it, but it always felt non judgemental. Maybe because it was the same time 'your kink is not my kink' was a bigger thing? or it's just a silly word that was fun to say? Or because people didn't have super long lists of them. Nothing turns me off faster than a request where the DNW list is five times the size of everything else in a signup.

I'll never understand why so many people DNW so many very specific I believe meant to be 'icky' things - like - scat. I mean, objectively sure, I don't want that either, but like, who is writing all these poop stories? Nobody's ever written me one and it's not in my very short DNW list. And if someone is out to ruin your good time, they'll find a way. Mosquitos man. I've never seen mosquitos on a DNW list but there's all sorts of gross possibilities there.

But personally, for Sam/Bucky a couple of things -

I don't like Bucky choosing to go by James all the time from everybody. I just can't take the character without that very specific nickname.  It was odd hearing Zemo call him 'James' but it made sense when someone points out how condescending it is for Walker to immediately start calling him Bucky like they were friends.

I can't stand it if Sam is cruel to someone, especially if it's all in a supposed jokey manner. That author shouldn't ever get the privilege of writing down Sam's name again. I think this has become a lot less prevalent as time moved on, but after CA:CW there was . . . a problem.

I think there are definitely very anti-ish dnw lists out there, but also people who interpret the rules about how only dnws in the signup will be enforced by the mod to mean you should dnw absolutely everything you wouldn't enjoy just in case. It is kind of a worst case scenario way of looking at it. For me, there are definitely common dnws I wouldn't have expected to be as common as they are, so I kind of appreciate people actually saying them so I don't have to be psychic. Which I am not good at, lol.

I absolutely love and want prompts or maybe the requester's favorite bits of canon or where they think more exploration would be fun to see. And it's probably a me problem, but I have to acknowledge that I feel defensive at extremely long dnw lists and feel like they must think I'm stupid if I plan to write them a poop story for an exchange called 'happy fun good times only summer'. : )

Oh for sure dnws are not useful as *prompts* and positive content is better for the creative soul. Though I don't mind having more room to do my thing, once in a while.

Agree! To me the line between squick and dnw is sexual/violent. Like my dnw list is long. I will not read time travel, animal distress, dreams, etc. My squick list... *shrugs* nothing really.

Also I will die on the hill that Sam would NEVER call Bucky 'Buck' ever. He's a southern Black man, buck isn't coming out of his mouth.

I don't know that I have anything that squicks me enough to hit the backbutton by itself. I mean in combinations of poor writing or bad formatting, yeah. DNW lists sometimes just feel like they should be about style and big things rather than a bulleted list of so many things a person doesn't like.

Y'know I'd never thought of it before I was reading about the original comics and Lemar Hoskins who they literally wanted to codename Bucky before people told them the implications. But like, it's Bucky's name so dunno. I however love to support people and their hills. I have had many. : )

I don't like Sam being cruel, either, particularly to Bucky. I really dislike *anyone* doing any sort of 'you were a murder-bot and tried to murder me so I get the cookie' or whatever nonsense. SO not on.

Yes, it was condescending and super-presumptuous of Walker to call him Bucky. Yick.

Gray's a very competent indoor cat, she manages okay when she's outside eating grass and has finally adjusted to her flea collar. I hope the mud does not make a repeat appearance!

I mean, I will admit, that in fiction I am sort of attracted to the mean characters. But Sam would never try to hurt someone on purpose. There were times when he could easily have lashed back at Bucky in the show and he never did.
