Hawaii Five-O 1x1

So at some point in 2017, I decided to give H5O a chance, and yeah got completely sucked in. I'm not saying I have a type, but I totally have a type and Steve McGarrett is it. Though I loled at some of the articles calling it a police procedural -> HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. This is pure unmitigated cop fantasy . . . means and immunity, oh my god. They waste a dozen bad guys every week, I don't know how they stay in business. However, since it's in no way tied to reality, I enjoy the fast pace and beautiful people wearing pretty colors. While most episodes are self-contained, there are some that span a little bit, and I really like that it feels like they are real people with real history that is actually remembered and remarked on in later episodes.
I am not actually watching this season live, but I did follow along when Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park got fed up with the nonsense and let the show go. I don't know if I'll watch, because I really liked Chin and Kono and how they fit into the group when the writers actually remembered they existed. Depends I suppose, on how desperate I am for entertainment this summer.
Steve/Danny is basically my McShep 2.0 in some of their relationship dynamics, but with extra pda. I really like them together, and how they took that instant connection and actually worked with it. Though I am horrified by the lack of size kink fics.
Anyway, I figured I'd do some fiddling with screencaps from the Pilot. There is a sad lack of Chin here, but maybe I'll pick a few other favorite episodes if anybody cares. . . or if I just get bored. I promise there is an actual plot, I'd rather just talk about how much I like them. : )

So, the first meeting in the garage. I love the lighting, and I love how they're both just dripping with testosterone.

Their first attempt to work together does not go smoothly. I liked that Danny was a cop and his job was to rein in Steve. They lost that a little in later seasons when he gives up battering his forehead on the brick wall of Steve's sense of duty. Also, the sets are just so pretty. Like, I have zero desire to ever go to Hawaii (or most tropical places) but it is fun to see on TV. It's something interesting and different than the drab gray walls at work.

CHIN! I'm so sorry hunny, I love your smile, but there just wasn't a lot of you in the pilot. I wanted a Chin centric episode that wasn't tragic, and I don't think we've got it yet. I love him and Jerry (Sir Not Appearing In This Episode) and when he and Kono are just having fun. The writers gave him a lot of emotional heavy lifting though.

I really liked the Kono recruitment scene. It really lays the groundwork for all of them and how they react to each other. Kono's entrance is, of course, super hot.

So, of course they send Kono undercover to stop some human traffickers where we meet one of my favorite villans, Sang Min. My old roommate hated him with an unburnt passion, but I loved the smarm. Being in a room with him would definitely make your skin crawl. I enjoyed seeing him come back through the series and how he didn't change exactly, but some of the motivation did.

The final showdown which cements Steve and Danny's partnership. I'm just saying, Steve whumps up very nicely, and the showrunners know it. I honestly can't think of another human TV character that's gone through as much as he has and come out not only sane, but still caring.

The first of many times the crew celebrates and relaxes together.
And icons I made, some of which I like better than others. One day I might even get over my fascination with the blue cloudy texture, but that day is not today.
