Yup, I'm still working through these prompts and replying when I can. It's hard without my own laptop and my music to get me going. : ) Sorry for delays in commenting!

“That’s a great idea, if you wanted to destroy all life in the system!”
“Which could have happened if I hadn’t already calibrated it to accept the fluctuating dispersal rates.”
“You did what? I expressly told you not to tamper with anything without my direct supervision! These are very delicate constructions.”
Tony looked skyward for only a beat. “So now you want me to kill everybody?” he asked, continuing to tinker with the ancient machine despite the death glare aimed in between his shoulder blades.
By this time, Steve had mastered the ability not to react based on anything Tony said, mostly because Tony would change his opinion five more times in the next three minutes. The Stargate Atlantis staff, however, was still in the worshipful stage of their relation with Tony. Later would be the crying, gnashing of teeth, and setting Tony on fire.
Tony was nothing if not rock solid in his capriciousness.
Unfortunately, Pepper was up the pier taking a working lunch with Mr. Woolsey and unavailable to tame Tony. Steve could ride herd, cut down on some of the casualties, but that was about it. Even Captain America sometimes had to pick his battles.
“Well, I’m no astrophysicist, but I do know a thing or two about machines,” Tony drawled, making Steve wince when he said ‘astrophysicist’ like he would say ‘government agent’. He took a tool from a young lab tech standing next to him, and gave her a blinding smile, “Is he like this all the time? I can see how that might cause a hostile working environment. Feel free to come by Stark HQ next time you’re Earthside. We supply chocolate milk and everyone gets an afternoon nap.”
“You know, Alpha Flight is so much cooler than you guys,” Dr. McKay grumbled, gnawing off one half of a powerbar.
“Jarvis, could you…Jarvis?” Tony glanced around, waiting for his computer twin to answer, and forgetting that they were galaxy away from home. “Oh, right. You’ll do. Here. Wait twelve and a half seconds and then do your little mind trick and turn it on.”
Dr. McKay scowled but he touched the intended panel and counted under his breath while Tony tapped a few more pieces into place. At exactly twelve and a half seconds, the entire room lit up in golden tones and hummed with a deep harmonic. The walls somehow reflected the ocean despite the lack of windows.
“Wow,” Colonel Sheppard breathed in awe. He craned his neck back and gazed around in a circle.
Somehow, Dr. McKay had changed from the crabby old scientist to a kid let loose in his first candy store. Steve would never understand what men like Tony and Rodney took for granted, but he could appreciate the results of their mad dash through physics and engineering. He’d thought the future was amazing, the future in space was even more so.
“Good job, Dr. McKay,” Tony said, subdued as scientists gathered around Dr. McKay, slapping his back and congratulating him. “Now, on to more important things. Steve, you haven’t introduced me to your friend. How very inconsiderate.”
He didn’t bother to hide his small smile this time. Not as Tony slid a warm hand on his side, shifting him incrementally away from Colonel Sheppard and toward Tony. Tony got proprietary with almost everything he considered his. It still made Steve blush, though it also made him wonder if Tony actually wanted him or if he was simply part of Tony’s collection.
“Tony, this is Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard. He’s in charge of the military segment of the Atlantis expedition,” Steve said, even though he knew good and well that Tony knew everything Steve knew about Atlantis and probably more. “Colonel, this is Anthony Stark, consulting on behalf of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
“Yes, how nice to meet you. Studying the Atlantis flight mechanisms has given me several ideas on how to upgrade the Helicarrier,” Tony said absently, sliding forward though Colonel Sheppard backed away to keep the same distance between them.
“I see you’ve been busy all over the place. What’s this room going to do?” Sheppard asked. He jerked slightly as he bumped into a table behind him.
“No idea,” Tony smacked his lips, gesturing at the technology lighting up on console after console. “I just fix things.”
“He’s a rather passable handyman,” Dr. McKay said.
“How kind of you, doctor. These uniforms of yours really are quite flattering,” Tony switched tracks quickly, cocked his head and reached out, ignoring the way Colonel Sheppard froze stiff in a military posture completely opposite his earlier slouching. “You have to tell me who you use. Maybe they could come up with a design to keep Banner’s pants on.”
“And here I thought the stars and stripes were your fetish,” Dr. McKay muttered under his breath. He poked at whatever Tony had rigged up, but jerked back in surprise when it sent sparks flying at his face.
Everyone in the lab froze, though they somehow managed to affect positions that might have looked natural if they hadn’t also all made sure to look at him out the corners of his eyes. It was a normal reaction anytime Tony stayed in one place for any length of time. Even some of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents still fell into that trap.
“Tony, we’ve talked about this,” Steve said, taking pity on the science team still vibrating with tension. He didn’t get jealous, not over Tony’s default settings, but sometimes de didn’t know why Tony had to go at things sideways. “Ask first, and then try to flirt your way in.”
“May I fly one of your Jumpers?” Tony asked, pulling his fingers back from Sheppard’s zipper so he could tap the tips together in front of his chest. He rocked up on his toes, though even with the gesture, he was still shorter than both of them. “They really are quite charming.”
