This one's different from the previous as necessary misunderstanding only makes understanding all that much better.

Still no sign of Lord of the Rings characters, just people who look like them.

Without further ado- My Bush or Yours?
When will it stop? )

what I've got in my head right now is AU, but maybe later it'll slip back into the main stream of things.

Notes: Aragorn is being raised the rightful heir of Gondor with his Steward apparent Boromir as his best friend. What he doesn't know is that an elf has been watching him for some time now, and while curiosity killed the cat, elves are immortal, right?

Disclaimer thingy: Nothing LOTR related is mine, except in another dimension where I am also the Goddess of Cheese.

Warning: soon to be slash here. if you don't know what it means get lost.

Crouched high above the ground, hidden by the leafy boughs of the tallest tree in the palace gardens, Legolas of Mirkwood silently peered through the screen separating him from the object of his current attention.

Lounging against the tree, a young man sat in the company he always kept, that of his friend Boromir, and that which he could not avoid, the palace women who seemed to be forever tagging along after him in hopes of winning his affection. By the look of abject boredom on Prince Aragorn's face, he would rather have been anywhere else then listening politely to the ladies giggle over palace gossip. Indeed his nimble fingers would soon wear a hole in the cloth he was absently fingering.

Legolas felt his breath catch, mesmerized by the repetitive motion of Aragorn's hand. When he had first ventured here, so far away from his own home, his only desire was to study the noblest race of humans still in Middle Earth, but what had begun as pure curiosity had bloomed into obsession upon his first sight of the Heir, Aragorn.

The intensity of the man's eyes were unlike anything Legolas had ever experienced before. There was something primal about him, and although a quality shared by most humans, Aragorn had it in abundance. He could probably see into the very soul with those wondrous eyes if he wanted to.

Physically, he was not beautiful as the elves were, he was rugged, more like the mountain men of the North then a Price of Gondor. Although a youth still, his power was visible to everyone, he would one day be the greatest King Gondor had ever seen.

But Legolas was not concerned with a future King, for he was in love with the man. A man who he had seen in the full range of human emotion, kind, angry, sad, happy. The elf had wondered repeatedly in his life what it would be like to experience emotions so vividly. To shrug out of the aloofness of elven apathy, and now, he had met the man who could do it for him.

The girls had finally been called away, and Aragorn and Boromir were slowly strolling away chatting like the old friends they were through the garden shrubbery. Not willing to be left behind, in truth he had hardly let the man out of his sight in the two month he had known him, Legolas used every trick he'd ever learned to stay quiet and unnoticed as he followed them.

"I'm so tired of it," Aragorn complained with a slight pout as he and Boromir paused to watch the gold fish swimming in a pond. "Their ceaseless prater is worse then those awful birds Mother insists on keeping! And not one of them really cares at all about me, they just want the Queen's Crown."

"You can't really blame them," Boromir said putting his arm about his downcast friend, then with a twinkle in his eye let his hand sink lower as he playfully continued, "after all, you're a very handsome man!"

Letting his foul mood drop, Aragorn played along batting his eyelashes, "Really the problem is that I have given my heart to you, and none of them stand a chance!"

They laughed sharing the old joke that never became boring. This was pair, Legolas knew, that should never be parted, such friendships were not very found very often. He had watched them wreak a playful havoc on the unwary many times.

"But really," Aragorn said, sighing as he skipped rocks along the surface of the water, "I just want to meet someone new, a totally different kind of girl."

The rest of the conversation was lost on Legolas as he sat behind a bush, deaf and dumb to the word as his mind hatched a plot that might let him meet the object of his affection.
