First, I talked to the landlord yesterday, and he's letting me out of my lease. I have to do the footwork of finding someone else, but it shouldn't be a problem. Yay!

Second, I went and saw Transformers yesterday. I had mixed feelings and have decided to subtitle it in conversation as: "The annoying kid and the director with whom I have issues."

The Good:

~ Tom Lenk! With lines! He is still so adorkable. I loved him from his Buffy days, and thought what they did with the charcter in his couple of Angel eps was glorious.

~ Bumblebee as matchmaker! Oh, those song choices were golden. That was one of the cutest boy chases girl scenes I've seen in a while. It was so offbeat.

~ The Transformers! Oh, dear god, I don't think I can say enough about how awesome they looked, and how wonderful the voice work was. That was an amazing interest and when they transformed the first time I got goosebumps.

~ Ironhide! "I just wanted to show him my cannons!" "You have a rodent infestation." "It lubricated on me."

~ The ending with Optimus talking to the stars. I loved his speech, and I wish I could remember the cartoons better. I want to know how he knows about humans, he was determined to save them before he even met Sam.

The Bad:

~ I was agitated that it took so long for the Autobots to show up. Sam was entertaining when I didn't want to strangle him, but the movie didn't come alive for me until we got to Optimus Prime.

~ In the same vein, I was unimpressed with the military side plot and the system analysts. What was the point?

~ The parents. Once again, I agree with Ironhide, they were annoying, over the top and unsympathetic.

~ Lubricating on the Sector Seven agent. Funny. No really. [/sarcasm]

The Ugly:

~ I'm sure I'm in the minority, but that oh-so-subtle dig at Bush during the Air Force One scene just pissed me off. It through me right out of the movie and into the land of the political. I mean, I'm not much of a Bush fan anymore, I still think he's better than the alternative, but the "dingdongs" was incredibly unnecessary.

~ The sector seven agent. I don't remember if that's some kind of riff off the cartoon, but if it was they should have left it there. It's possible to do quirky and insane without stupid, they did not do that.

That's all I can remember right now. I think about the parts that I liked, and I really liked them. Then I think about what grated on my nerves and I really get annoyed. I think I just expected something more serious, and instead got slapstick. There were a lot of kids in the theater when I went, and I was uncomfortable that there was cursing and other adult themes.

Apparently I want both sides of the coin and the edge too. I think I'll go see Die Hard again.

Feel free to disagree and try to make me see through some of this stuff. I really wanted to like this movie, maybe I just set my expectations too high. I didn't think I'd care about Die Hard, and I love it, but I thought I'd be blown away by Transformers and I was really pretty "eh" bordering on "boo".
