I currently have 146 works posted on AO3, and my goal is to get to 150 by the end of the year. To that end, I'm brushing off some of the mostly finished WIPs I've had sitting around for years. The latest is this one:
Yeah, yeah. They were roommates. (10430 words) by chase_acow
Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Tony Stark
Additional Tags: Fix-It for Movie: Captain America: Civil War (2016), Cap takes some lumps, but knows he deserves them, Enemies to Friends to More, Roommates, Peter memes at them, Living With a Disability, Happy Endings For Everyone
Summary:
On this particular afternoon,Tony slammed the door to his new Malibu location and stepped back, waiting for a rising tide of panic that somehow didn’t come. He crossed his arms over his chest and glared up at the nearest sensor. “Friday?” he asked, “Did you let a known assassin sneak onto the property through the water garden?”
“Yes, boss,” she replied quickly and happily, hopefully already having taken pictures of the lily drenched man on the other side of the door. She knew he wasn’t upset. They’d both kept an ear open for rumors concerning the Winter Soldier. “He wasn’t very good at it.”
With a sigh, Tony opened the door again, raising an eyebrow when he observed that Barnes hadn’t moved a muscle since getting the door slammed in his face. “Does your mother know you’re out after curfew?” he asked, the teasing curling into the edge of his mouth. It felt rusty, but he shoved that bit of stress away so it could eat at him another night.
I didn't really expect much interaction on it. I mean, a Civil War Fix-it? Surely fandom has worked through all their trauma by now. . . : ) But the kudos are good. I really loved writing Tony's dialog and letting Bucky have a softer landing to work through his issues.
Maybe one of y'all live closer to these burgers than I do.
