2022 consumed stuff review

The google spyware known as my phone tells me that I walked 18 miles and drove 3,930 miles last year. That's probably not enough walking. I should probably beat that in 2023. New goal!
01. Your main fandom of the year?
Top Gun Maverick rotted my brain. I wouldn't even have gone to see it if my dad hadn't been nostalgic over the first one and asked me to go with him. He summarized the first movie for me (when I watched it later, I hated it, but it also wasn't much like what he remembered, so good thing?) and then I sat in the third row of the movie theater (way too close) and stared up and these dumb men emoting all over the screen, and a couple of badass women looking awesome. I think I saw it five times all together including a birthday trip to get the poster.
02. Your favorite film watched this year?
Everything Everywhere All At Once was an awesome movie that I saw at a particular moment to hit me hard and just right. I did not expect to be hit with all my mommy issues like hot dog fingers to the face. I really enjoyed watching Evelyn figure things out and fight/chase across the multiverse for her daughter, when my mom usually had/has trouble just going to my band concerts. I loved that everything mattered, how so many tiny details came back around to be plot important.
Honorable mention: The Menu and RRR
03. Your favorite book read this year?
It wasn't a great year for books. I made my goal, but there's not a lot that sticks out as memorable for me. Because I got Top Gun brain rot, I watched The Offer for Miles Teller (btw, he is so hot in this show. Like a different person hot.) which was about the making of The Godfather movie. I'd never watched the movie or read the book, so I decided to do both in tandem. The movie sucked, but the book was entertaining - such weird subplots.
04. Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
One of my resolutions for 2023 is to listen to more albums because it was very obvious last year the only one I listened to was the new Imagine Dragons, which I did enjoy. Though my top listen was a cover of Teenage Dream by the Horrible Crows.
05. Your favorite TV show of the year?
I don't think I've watched one of the prestige shows in a while, though I intend to binge some this year. I really enjoyed Peacemaker way more than I thought I would because I am usually so done with the man-child trope. I enjoyed the work place stupidity, and the fight scene where John Cena is jiggling through a fight scene in his tighty whities was fun and unique. I like how their arcs bend to the finale.
And I watched The Offer repeatedly, but I blame the brain rot.
06. Your favorite DW community of the year?
I really fell away from DW this year. I completely failed at playing
comment_bingo last year. I mean I've left comments, but I would like to finish my original card.
07. Your favorite video game of the year?
Oy, another mediocre year in new games. I picked up Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy right at the new year on sale and 100%ed the achievements. I enjoyed the story, the characters and the little choices I got to make to steer Quill towards a slightly less douchebaggy personality. The game mechanics on the other hand couldn't be any more opposite from my normal play style. I'm a sniper at heart, but these dummies have to be right in the middle of everything. : ) I loved everything about Rocket except his chin hair.
08. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
IDK? I mean Top Gun entertained me through the summer of everything fucking breaking and costing too much. Along with Mackie the kitten of summer sanity. I did not expect to also be adopted by Bear, the kitten of fall chaos.
09. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
I mean, Real Life sucked a lot this year, so I just kind of went with the fandom flow. I was irritated the Rooster/Hangman writers decided to use the word Princess as an endearment and not as a semi-friendly taunt.
I was disappointed that Sam/Bucky fell so much in the tumblr traffic. I am of course part of the problem, not really reading or writing much. It was an unwelcome acknowledgement though.
10. Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
Glen Powell and every character he's ever played, starting of course with Jake "Hangman" Seresin from TG:M. Y'know when you're lying down to sleep and you just daydream a little? Yeah. My self-insert Gary Stu has had a lot of adventures with that asshole.
Jake "Hangman" Seresin - TG:M
Finnegan - Everybody Wants Some!!
Francis Riley - Red Wing
Charlie (though he's got terrible hair) - Set It Up
Tom Hudner - Devotion
JT - Sex Ed
Chad Radwell - Scream Queens
11. Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
I loved The Woman King and every woman involved in front or behind the scenes should be so proud of themselves. It was fantastic how well rounded all the characters were and how much work the actresses must have put in for the action scenes, the accents/language, the singing, and the camaraderie.
12. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
I don't think I got one. God of War Ragnarok didn't really have that crowning moment of awesome. The end was rushed and underwhelming, and the post game didn't make any sense at all. The bait and switch in prophesy was just very irritating in hindsight.
13. The most missed of your old fandoms?
Aw man, I went to look at new SamBucky fics on AO3 and I had a hard time cutting through the chaff to find something I wanted to read. I also thought fondly of the night several years ago where for some reason I got sucked canon blind into Transformers fic. It was so random.
14. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Ted Lasso. I know I've missed most of the excitement, but this is the year!
15. Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?
I want a Sam cameo in literally any of the MCU nonsense. I'm also excited for Loki S2.
