So excuse me while I huddle in the corner and cry over a one point loss to our in-state rival. Bedlam always makes my head and stomach hurt no matter whether we win or lose. I had a whole Sooner bashing post thought up in my head too... Alas.

So this idea got stuck in my head, and it's just going to be some fun fluff that I update every week. Should have my longish fic up tomorrow. Yay! And the fourgy fic is going really well now that I've found my angle for not getting confused over all the 'hes' and 'hises'. Also, dirty in bondage Daniel Jackson tomorrow on Sci-Fi! It makes my day all ready.

Title: A Cute Couple
Series: Couples Night
Fandom: SG-1/SGA
Pairing(s): will be established eventually
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Instead of asking to assignment to SG-1, Cameron Mitchell had asked to be sent wherever Daniel Jackson happened to be going. This was how both men found themselves in Atlantis and found much more then they bargained for.

“Just admit that you miss it,” Cameron demanded as he plunked his tray down next to Daniel’s and continued a conversation that had began three days ago.

Daniel looked up from where he was poking at the food on his tray, and raised his eyebrow. “What was it this time?” he asked putting his book aside and looking over as Cameron settled himself beside him. “Manically over-the-top Overlords, aphrodisiac flowers, mating rituals, or hostile farmers and cave persons?”

“Cave persons?” Cameron repeated, his tone conveying his dry humor as he tucked into the noodle like substance on his plate. “Did Weir pass new PC regulations while we were gone saving the galaxy?”

Blushing, Daniel still managed to roll his eyes and return to looking for something edible on his plate. “I still don’t miss it,” he said, though maybe with a tad less conviction. This was an old sore that Cameron just wouldn’t stop poking at, and it was beginning to wear against his defenses.

He’d been relatively happy since coming to Atlantis, meeting new people, carrying out his studies of Ancient culture, and finally been able to see a project all the way to its conclusion. He didn’t get to go through the Stargate as often as Sheppard’s team, but he was okay with that, mostly. There was still lots that he could do in the field if he chose, since the Ancients had left their technology scattered all over the galaxy, but the point of living in Atlantis was that he wouldn’t have to carry a gun and shoot at natives who hadn’t wanted to be bothered in the first place. He very seldom regretted his choice.

He thought Cameron was settling in well too, though he still didn’t know why Cameron had asked to be assigned to Sheppard’s team when he could have gotten a promotion and his own command back on Earth. He was glad, though; they’d struck up a friendship on board the Daedalus that had continued after they found their separate niches on Atlantis. In his work, Daniel got to bounce around the entire city and didn’t have his own department or team, consequently he seldom saw a person more then once a week.

“Hey Cameron, Daniel,” John Sheppard said breaking into Daniel’s thoughts as he and Rodney McKay slid the seats opposite of him. His team had just gotten back to Atlantis this morning, and they all looked to be in one piece and Teyla and Ronan seldom came back scorched when the others were clean.

Daniel smiled a welcome and this time moved all his reference materials off the table and into his bag. Rodney was well known for getting worked up during a conversation and gesturing with his fork, whether it was empty or not. Daniel had gotten to know them through Cameron; they reminded him of his home at the SGC more then the scientists and civilians he normally worked with.

“Hey, Sir,” Cameron greeted John as he sat across from him. With Cameron, it was always a curious mixture of ‘sir’ and ‘John’ because though they were the same rank, Sheppard was obviously the one in charge of the team. “Teyla and Ronan wanted to know if we were up for another game of doubles.”

“Mitchell, you’ve got a streak of masochism bigger then John’s vanity,” Rodney interrupted when John tried to reply, his mouth full of not-noodles as he elbowed John. “And that’s something I never thought I’d say.”

John kept his nose up as he pretended to pick daintily through his food. “Never say never in Atlantis,” he drawled and then turned his attention to Daniel. “You get anywhere with A-C 324 while we were gone?”

“Turns out that it as some kind of spice rack,” Daniel answered, shaking his head at the waste of time. One day he was going to understand just why the Ancients needed such an elaborate kitchen appliance. “That’s why it didn’t have a power source. Purely mechanical.”

“Glamorous,” Cameron said rolling his eyes and finishing his dessert, licking his spoon clean in an indecent display of enjoyment. “So how about it John? Want to go get our asses kicked at ping-pong?”

John immediately put his fork down, slid his tray over toward Rodney, and stood, “Sure what else have I got to do?”

Shaking his head as the two military officers walked away talking about doubles tactics, Daniel thought it might be nice not to have any other responsibilities besides ‘don’t die’ and ‘don’t let others die’. He tried to take another couple of bites and wondered why he’d ever bad-mouthed the SGC food.

Rodney however, was being uncharacteristically quiet, and Daniel looked up to find that he was watching John open the door for Cameron as they left the mess hall. “You know,” Rodney said finishing his own tray and moving on to John’s, “they make a really cute couple.”

“What?” Daniel asked, his eyebrows shooting up to his hairline. Out of all the things he’d ever heard Rodney say, he’d never expected anything like that.

Rodney shot Daniel a look that clearly said he wasn’t use to this level of obtuseness from Daniel, and said very slowly as though to a child slightly slower then his peer group, “Mitchell and Sheppard. I mean, they’re obviously together.”

Quickly, Daniel’s brain disengaged and he says only, “Huh.” while avoiding Rodney’s eyes.
