it's tv time
May. 22nd, 2019 07:58 pmI mean sure, some people post what their reading, but I'm reading The Magicians, The Sirens of Titan, and Trail of Lightning but who knows if I'll finish any of them. I am a terrible reader. I fall for the characters and then want them to do what I want them to do.
But, I did watch a lot of TV this year and all these things are renewed:
The Orville, listen this is my dumb little space show that could, and I love it and this season was perfect except for one outfit in the final episode that threatened to roll my eyeballs out of my head. It's got a 65/94% rating on rotten tomatoes. It's a drama! Except when it's funny which is nearly always. Bortus is my favorite character and wow did he get a lot of time in season two! They really love to spotlight the nonhuman members of the Union. It's not gross or cringy, it's optimistic and heartfelt. Okay, sure, the first episode of this season was about Bortus' yearly urination ritual, but somehow it turns into a real bonding moment for the crew and IDK, okay?
9-1-1 solid second season, the finale was a bummer to me but otherwise I still love the cast. We got several origin story episode and I loved all of them. I find it funny that they get the cop parts of the episodes so not right a lot, but the dispatch parts are real good. There's an episode where Dispatcher wants to quit to go back to nursing because she can't reconcile that she only gets to try to help the people that call and once there's a uniform in front of them they hang up on her. So to prove to her that she does help, they bring in everyone that she's ever talked to from the first episode so she can get 'the rest of the story' and yeah, I balled just wailed I was so happy for her. I like that all these people are good people and you can cheer for them and be happy when good things happen. It got a bit drama heavy at the end, but getting there was fun.
The Rookie, I am not a Nathan Fillion fan, but he's okay, and then ensemble for this show is real, real, good. They get a lot of the cop parts right (except for the white triangle of death which LA cops should for dang sure know better, and some sloppy trigger control), and it's extremely relaxing for me to watch middle aged, mature Nolan out there making good decisions when sometimes I capslock at my coworkers that they are basically TODDLERS WITH GUNS, WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!. This show gave us a cliffhanger that I didn't need on the finale, and killed off a character that should have had way more air time and stuff to do, but otherwise I loved it. The romance aspect isn't beaten to death, but there's some there, especially between West and his way too cute boyfriend nurse. They are adorable and treated with respect in the show and I love them.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I actually just re-binged the entire series and can now for sure say that Gina was the worst part of it and I'm so glad she's gone. I had so many B99 dreams, these characters are so good and consistent that I couldn't keep my subconscious clear. Holt/Kevin is my married couple OTP they are perfect and nothing had better ever, ever happen to Kevin. Safe House, the ep where Jake and Kevin are hiding out watching Nic Cage movies is in my top five episodes of all tv episodes of all time. I was also very gleeful at this season finale as Suicide Squad was the best team up ever and I made so much noise when I was watching it. I love Dean Winters.
So what's next? Catch-22 looks interesting on Hulu. I still want to give The Umbrella Academy a chance. And for nostalgia sake I want to attempt the impossible rewatch of Supernatural so I can watch the last season live. This seems like a terrible idea and will possibly end in my death, but I am full of bad ideas and work is the most boring place alive.
