It's cop fantasy where there are no rules, only pretty people and colors moving fast. It was always hyper masculine/violent, but this season seems to have turned things way up. I was always uncomfortable with this law enforcement agency celebrating their violence toward criminals and suspects, but they seemed like good enough people who could toe the line. However, starting with the addition of Lou, they feel like dirty cops. His stunt at kidnapping and torture of his former friend, who yeah, had killed his wife and got away with it, destroyed that character for me. You can't do that. I've despised him ever since.

Steve had a single-minded bloodhound thing going on where he'd do whatever it took to catch the guy. The guy should have stopped, should have surrendered, so any ouchies that occurred while fleeing I felt fine with. But why is torture ever okay? And this last episode where he blindsided an old man, a prisoner coming to the visitor's room was it. Game over. I turned off the episode and unless this season+ turns out to have 'all been a dream' and they are actually still sane, ethical law enforcement moonlighting as restaurateurs, I won't come back.

I miss Kono. And I miss Kono/Adam. I loved their relationship on the show even if it was obvious the writers were having a hard time letting Kono be 'man of the house' for lack of a better phrase.

Danny should have turned them all into an oversight committee years ago.

Oh, man. I quit that show several seasons ago. Around about the time Steve's ex-Navy ex-girlfriend was suddenly going around like the Terminator in occupied Iraq or something. I was just done.

I love the look of it, i adore the colors and the crazy. But Kono is so, so missed. I miss the Core Four and their awesome friends vibe. Everytime they tried to throw another skinny white chick into the mix, it just sucked.

I wanted to like Catherine, y'know, I think most of us want to like the female characters if only the writers didn't make it so hard. The show has a lot of the things I think we'd want to watch. Steve and Danny don't have a lot of the easy to spot toxic masculinity going on, but the uncontrollable cop angle is too much for me to deal with.

She was *so cool* in the first couple of seasons! She was smart and brave and competent and 'got' how intense a cop's life could be (and had her own awesome, intense life)....

And then it just got stupid.

Yeah, I kinda stopped when Grace & Daniel left. Even the hoyay of Steve/Danno couldn't make really care anymore. I'd watch when some of my flist would squee about an ep but it just makes me miss the four of them just hanging out and being family.

I should have just stopped then too. I binged the first however many seasons were on netflix until I caught up last year, and it's like a completely different show. Like, maybe they're still making lip service to being friendly to the younger liberal agenda? But it's actually completely focused on being a fast chase, hot girls, shoot'em'up Man Show.

I quit pretty fast. I loved Kono and Chin and Danny/Steve (http://mirabellafic.dreamwidth.org/3871.html),and Hawaii is some of the very best panorama porn, but I just could NOT deal with the story lines and the blatant disregard of rights and property and all that jazz.

Yeah, I mean if even in the first episode Steve is hanging someone off a roof for a confession . . . that really ought to be a clue. It just feels like it's been taken up to eleven and I have no idea what's happened to Steve's character arc.
