Hi there, you lovely person who got matched with me for Yuletide. I hope you're as excited as I am. : ) You should know that I'm already happy to be in this exchange and I'm going to enjoy whatever you write. I know that people have different ways of writing, and if you're one of those people who don't want to be constricted, then go write whatever is in your heart. If you'd like to know about my general likes read on, and at the end is a couple of fandom specific prompts.
Likes in General: Okay, I'm kind of a sucker for Christmasy themes. I like clichés, especially if there's a bit of a twist on a familiar trope. I'd prefer happy endings, but I definitely don't mind if there has to be some angst to get there. I don't mean excessive schmoopy, I just like for good things to happen to real people. I like those 'slice of life' fics that shed light on relationships. Speaking of relationships, I'm a fan of slash, femslash, het, and gen, so do whatever feels best for you with the prompts! I like characters making a family for themselves with each other. A lot of the characters that I enjoy are loners looking from the outside in. I really like giving these characters a taste of happiness and friendship.
I like the funny stuff. It doesn't have to be funny ha-ha, but slapstick, strange situations, snappy dialog, or the characters realizing how very odd their lives are all things I enjoy. I've got a very dry sense of humor that some people call odd, but I do enjoy a whole range of fun stuff. : )
World building is always appreciated. Sometimes it's the little details that really make a story come alive. I also really like the concept of magical realism or the heightened absurd. I think it's interesting and allows for great story lines.
I'd love a Christmas story in any of the fandoms. I love snow, loneliness turned to friendship, the craziness of last minute shopping, and the joy of spending time with people you like. Scenarios where everything goes wrong and Christmas never comes out perfect, but somehow it's always awesome grab my attention.
If you decide to get into relationships with any of these fandoms, I like slightly awkward first-times, reestablishing after a break up, a couple having to work to get on the same page, PDA, explicit sex, fade to black sex, back to front set, foot rubs, romantic gestures, pet names, and cuddling. You don't need to get all fluffy or anything, but some cuteness is nice.
Dislikes in general: I'm not a big fan of first or second person point of view and present tense. They're not deal breakers though, so don't stress out.
Patricia Briggs – Mercedes Thompson Series
Ben, Warren, Kyle
Book.
I really enjoy this series, and I think this trio is a hoot -> Ben has issues and is emotionally scarred, Warren may or may not be the stable one, and Kyle shows signs of a marshmellowy center. Something pinged for me when Warren let Ben bite him in the hospital while they scrubbed Ben's hands clean. I'd like to see Ben really make a home for himself with people who don't just tolerate him. Warren is so sweet and loyal, but he's had a hard time, and was a lone wolf for a while. Kyle has a big heart, and he must really love Warren to go through the hassles of dating a werewolf.
I'm totally on board for an OT3 if that's your cuppa, or if you'd be more interested in a Ben + Warren/Kyle dynamic that's cool. Any rating is fine from G to NC 17. I like all the characters from the books so feel free to throw in any of the wolves, fae, of civilians.
I think it'd be fun to see these guys responsible for some sort of fun hijinx on their own. Maybe Warren talks Kyle into finally going camping, or hiking looking for the perfect Christmas tree and they bump into Ben. Somehow Kyle gets caught up in wolf business and Ben has to step in for him because Warren can't be reached. If you'd like to get into a serious plot, I'd love to see what you could come up with in the world Patricia Briggs created.
RPF – College Football
Lee Corso, Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstriet, and Desmond Howard
Real life.
All right, this is probably a totally random long shot, but I'm seriously addicted to college football and CGD is a ritual. They host College Game Day on Saturday mornings where they seem to have more fun than some guys half their age. I think that I'd like something a little nutty where these guys are bigger than life with personality and quirks but still flawed. I like the friendship they seem to have even when they come from college rivalries or pick against each other.
Chris Fowler is like the dad trying to herd a bunch of wet cats.
Kirk Herbstriet is like the cool older brother who sometimes cuts loose to get in on the fun.
Des(mond) Howard is the hip one.
Lee Corso is freakin' crazy. : ) He's the one that picks by putting on the mascot head and cracks everyone up.
I'm cheering for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, so if you decide to write any football bits into the story and include OSU you'll probably be able to hear me squeal with delight. This is the website -> http://espn.go.com/college-football/gameday watch the gameday ads to see kinda what I envision. Anything like those would make me deliriously happy. The degree of realism is totally up to you, because I'll be really easy! : ) Um, zombie apocalypse, Christmas special, or broken down bus on Christmas eve are a couple of prompts I came up with.
ETA!!! - GameDay is coming to my campus this Friday/Saturday (Nov 26/27)! The main show will be Saturday 9 - 11 Central time where they talk about football and show clips of campus and whatnot. Just in case you wanted to catch it.
Saving Grace
Any
TV show.
Completely reposted from last year ->
I promise, I really do mean "any" but there are a lot of characters, so I'll mention my favorites: Grace and Earl, Butch and Bobby, Ham and Rhetta. I love the magical realism of the show and the way the characters have made a family for themselves. I'd like something Christmasy, but write whatever makes you happy too! Gen, slash, or femslash -> I have no preference!
One small thing: I hate the University of Oklahoma Sooner football team. It made it difficult to watch a couple of episodes, but if you could work in some Bobby Stillwater and the Cowboys or Butch Ada and the Longhorns love that'd be awesome. Still totally optional, but it never hurts to ask. : )
Random ideas: visited by the ghost of Christmas spirit (Earl maybe?), prank wars, watching the Bedlam football game, bodyswap (I don't know I just think it'd be hilarious) or secret santa.
So I got sucked into this show because I do live in Oklahoma and it's neat to tune in and listen to them talk about places I know and the college football I watch. I love the camaraderie of the detectives in the station house, especially the pseudo rivalry between Bobby and Butch and Ham and Grace. A little bit of Cowboys and Longhorns vs. the Sooners? : ) (BTW, in case you couldn't tell, I'm an OSU Cowboy who happens to be a Longhorn fan. So if you want to let the Sooners get a bit of comeuppance, that'd be cool with me.)
As for Grace, I dig how passionate she is about everything. I love how she can get under the surface of everyone and every situation. I like the mythology of her needing a Last Chance Angel, and I really wish that the show would shed some more light on her (growing?) relationship with a higher power. Her friendship with Rhetta is another of the high points of the show. After Grace, I do like Butch and Bobby best. They seem to be an odd couple, so a story about them would also make me deliriously happy. Any pov, any focus for this fic is fine. I'd love to see the ensemble together, but I sure wouldn't turn my nose up at a character piece for any of them.
Earl has a great capacity for shaking things up. One of the things I love about the kind of TV genre is the magical realism that's involved. Anything goes.
ETA: Animal Farm - George Orwell
Any
Book. (a shortish one about animals or politics. . . depending)
Alas I can not help you on this one. It was a last minute decision to throw it in, but I'll tell you that I love this book both as a children's story and as a political work. The only prompt I can think of is to ask for a reboot with modern themes worked in. But if you'd prefer to write maybe a slice-of-life fic from the original, go for it! : ) I'll just be excited to see what you cook up.
Thank you dear Yuletide writer!
