So, I went and saw the late show of Annihilation last week. It's been a while since I saw a movie after 3pm, there were definitely more people there, but not a crowd. I'm glad I don't have a problem going to the movies by myself, because it's a lot easier to coordinate. Nothing new in the trailers but there was an extended one for Rampage which continues to look like a fun romp (though I have no nostalgia of the game like my coworkers), and I continue to be interested in A Quiet Place. I'll be glad when Red Sparrow moves on. I'm neither interested in Russians or spy movies, though Jennifer Lawrence continues to be beautiful.

cut because probably less people have seen this one, and it really didn't work for me. . . )

However, it's got a 79 on metacritic, so maybe it's a "me" problem instead of a movie problem.

tl;dr - I'm going to try to read the book, because it is an interesting premise and I think I would have loved the girl's science crew if the movie had just gotten out of it's own way. It felt like it was trying to be Arrival in tone, but it just tried to get too clever and for me it failed to even be that entertaining. Thank goodness for the giant lime coke I was drinking.

Saw Black Panther enjoyed it a lot. Maybe I should have seen it a little earlier, because all the hype about Killmonger made me super excited, and I felt like he didn't live up to it. Not the character or his backstory. I think maybe I wanted some inner conflict? I say all that as someone who can not write a villain to save my life. I don't know? But I did save as many write ups as I could about the movie so I could read them after I watched it, and maybe they will change my mind.

I echo every good thing everyone has said about the women, they were a group of spectacular actors and characters. Shuri is the most adorable little sister ever. I was more than half in love with all of them, and good thing because they got to emote a lot more than poor T'Challa did. They did a lot of heavy lifting to keep us caring and the plot moving.

I listened to the soundtrack when I went grocery shopping after and really enjoyed it. Give it a listen if you haven't yet.

There was an obnoxious dude in the back, ruined the ending by laughing over the slightly overwrought sunset scene. So there goes my enjoyment of watching movies with others.
