my legs are so white

For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, I have been dog free for about two months.

I'm going to an 11am football game in two weeks, and since I spent the entire summer sleeping through the days in the a/c and working through the nights in a/c I am trying to readjust my internal settings so I don't immediately turn into a puddle of goo in the hot temps. Thus, I have been walking in the late mornings to get a little sun in short bursts on my lily white legs without burning and remind myself that it's okay to sweat in 80/90 degrees.

Folks, there have been bucket loads of sweat. It is so gross. Can't wait to be packed in like sardines with thousands of other sweaty, rowdy monsters!

I thought it would be weird to take a walk without a dog, but it is so nice! I'm not constantly watching their butt trying to make sure they don't eat anything bad or poop anywhere they shouldn't. I get to look at the trees and walk as fast as I want to without waiting for them to sniff things.

Next year I might think about getting another dog - definitely not a puppy - but for now I'm actually already making holiday plans because I don't have to worry about bad weather or keeping a dog outside when it's too cold. Not that it's too cold in December anymore, but I guess there's always a chance.

I know that pets can be great for people's mental health and everyday happiness. But not having pets myself I can only see all the downsides -- the way one friend can't seem to have a conversation for more than 2 minutes without side talking to one of the pets which are doing something they shouldn't. Or in the case of a couple having to find pet care as they leave on an emergency cross country trip to see a critically ill parent (given they're not sure when they're returning). Or the fact that their financial crisis due to longterm unemployment means that the pet care bills are not something they can currently handle.

I'm glad people can give pets good homes but I often find discussing them is as constrained as mothers talking about how motherhood isn't all that after all.
