All right, so with an awesome marching band like that, they're establishing that John Walker most likely when to a predominantly Black high school with a Black girlfriend and a Black best friend. Of course he was a football star. And a military star. And men want to be him while women want to date him. I get it. I want to know if he did so well in the military by himself or if he got juiced up all the way back them. Maybe a lesser serum, something that got the job done, and has been subtly warping his mind this entire time instead of instantly turning him into a rage monster? Or maybe I just don't want to like him and will conspiracy theory myself to an answer that lets me easily not like him. (Wyatt Russell however is great and I've enjoyed the couple of things I've seen him in.)

Bucky got a lot of work in this episode, and had a couple of real stand out moments. 1. "Don't you know who he is!?" to the cops was just . . . bless. 2. "If he was wrong about you, then maybe he was wrong about me!" ouch, just wound me Buck, this is fine. In that second one, Bucky if frankly heaving his emotional baggage at Sam, begging for help or relief from carrying it. Which isn't fair to Sam, but also I don't think they've got great boundary lines. Do you think Bucky has ever actually had a partner? I mean he took care of Steve and probably didn't lean on him when he was small, then BAM Steve is big and sudden in charge and way too busy to deal with Bucky's problems after he was a POW. Now here's Sam and I think he's trying for that connection but he's doing it by yelling and flailing in Sam's general direction which triggers Sam to give it right back. I really hope the show sticks the landing on their friend and partnership by the end of show. I need this. It's been a tough year.

Sam, baby, sweetheart, love of my life. I'm so sorry you have to deal with all this white person angst on top of your own. He's definitely shoving his own feelings down and concentrating on the mission to fill up that gaping pit in his chest where his regrets and anger live. Now he doesn't owe Bucky anything, but I am hoping that maybe eventually he return that open vulnerability. Because, y'know . . . shipper here. Again, he looked fantastic in all the action scenes and they are really letting him play to his strengths. Watching him snatch Bucky from underneath the truck and then rolling through the grass led to a. lot. of. feelings. but mostly I SEE YOU MARVEL PUTTING THAT PIECE OF GREENERY IN FRONT OF SAM'S FACE TO FRUSTRATE MY DESIRE TO MY BOYS WITH THEIR FACES >< CLOSE TOGETHER IN GRAPHICAL FORM! SCREW YOU! Back to Sam, it was so hard to watch him in both the Isaiah scene and afterward with the cops*. Mackie did a fantastic job dealing with all that betrayal, frustration, and resignation. We got to see a lot of facets of Sam Wilson's character on display here and you know who can fuck off straight somewhere other than a fan community.

As an episode, I really liked it! The action and character moments seemed like a good balance. I am less inclined to believe that the Flag Smashers are going to end up being the existential crises here. They are disrupting the status quo which is always dangerous, but if they have a point about the status quo priorities than power to them. I imagine the priorities are A. Rich people blipped. B. Rich people not blipped. C. Not rich people not blipped. D. Not rich people blipped. and every group is desperately out to maximize their own well being without equity for all.

I wonder if they will make me care about Zemo at all? Will Sharon show up in this next ep? Will I be a nervous wreck for the entire six weeks?

*So the police scene makes me have a lot of conflicting thoughts. Because I am a law enforcement dispatcher (please somebody hire me when I apply) I understand why they stopped, and I see what's unrealistic with the cops' belts and their presence. But also on an emotional level that doesn't matter, because they and their biases and their over policing of certain areas can fuck off. Cops are the worst. But I do like some of them as people. And I know some who should NEVER have been hired. Also my shift did a shit ton of nit picky traffic stops yesterday evening and they can fuck off too. Thank you for coming to my rant, I'm as confused as you are.
